I've been thinking on our recent run of play, and at least for yesterday's game, I've come up with a diagnosis.
This team depends on chemistry. The more they play together, the better they do. Conversely, if a new player is introduced to the mix, bad things can happen.
Yesterday, according to the announcers, we had a new player on the court for large stretches. On a low-def broadcast, he looks suspiciously like a mix between Jeremiah Rivers and Omar Wattad. The announcers informed us that this new guard is named "Omar Woo-Todd."
What's the deal with inserting this new player smack-dab in the middle of the BE season? This Woo-Todd player is clearly upsetting the rhythm of things, leading to bad results.

So the rims were extra soft last week when we shot 57% from beyond the arc against the 'Cuse? Or was the composition of the air such that the arc of the shots was just a little greater?
The problem was that we were flat in every way. Easy fix--try harder.

Anyone see that flop by Hansbroseph on the alley-oop? He was brushed by the Clemson defender, and went flopping all over the floor after completing the dunk. Of course, true to traditional ACC prima donna treatment, the defender was called for the foul. Ugh.

Dailey... thanks for sharing. But .... "WOW"! If his account is accurate, the ref just decided to nail GU by giving a T to Greg that was totally unmerited. That, if true, is reason for an investigation and some serious consequences for the ref. True, but that story struck me as being a little bit self-serving. The guy was feet away doesn't know what was said, and couldn't tell if Monroe even said something? That seems a little strange to me. Well, there was a little basketball game ongoing--perhaps he was paying attention to that? Also, when was the last time you could hear the conversation in the row in front of you at the Verizon Center during a raucous game? Aren't you a law student, SP?

So you think we should be ahead of UConn? Is that your point? You could certainly make an argument regarding Syracuse, but anyone that would rank us ahead of UConn right now because we happened to win there a few weeks ago is crazy. In a straight up Big East poll, 5 games through a 16 game season, I don't see it as "crazy" at all. "A few weeks ago" or not, it was an away dismantling. Now, as your incisive criticism points out, "an argument regarding Syracuse" can indeed be made, and that was the main point of my post--if by "an argument" you mean "a slam dunk case." We crushed Syracuse last week. They were absolutely embarrassed by the 10th man on our bench and all 9 in front of him. Sure, they beat Notre Dame at home and we lost to the Irish, but we were close in their own fortress--not a bad loss. To say that "an argument" could be made for our being in front of Syracuse weakly dismisses the facts, which absolutely put us in front of them. For the record, hoyals, I think that your poll is pretty spot on. I'm getting the feeling more and more that the home-and-away against Marquette will determine where we end up in the BE by the end of the season.

Maybe one of these days we'll beat Duke again. Maybe one of these days we'll play Duke away from that black hole of fairness, Cameron Indoor, again.

Interesting to see that we're behind two teams we beat in impressive fashion. Also, the weird comments seem to be trying a bit too hard to be funny but miss the mark wide.

Hifi, in your long and disgraceful history of posting on HT, this could be your gravest offense. "The Duke Game" is a national treasure for Hoyas; delete your post immediately, because as far as this board is concerned, 1/21/06 had nothing whatsoever to do with Florida.
Rockaway, I'm very happy you started this thread. Having come to Georgetown during what seemed to be a long goodbye from big-time hoops for the Hoyas, I couldn't have been more overjoyed at seeing the bright future of Hoyas Hoops explode before me on that day. And to think what we've seen in the short time since--two B.E. regular season championships, an emphatic BET Championship, home games of massive national consequence (Pitt, Louisville, etc...)--the list goes on.
Perhaps the most amazing development since The Duke Game was that another sequence of games was actually able to rival that day in my mind. Traveling to the 2007 NCAAs to catch the BC, Vandy, and UNC games--all epic matchups--was a whirlwind tour that I will never forget. Capped by the UNC comeback, the signature game for the early JTIII years at Georgetown (not to mention the height of the Jeff/Jon/Roy troika), were a rebirth to glory for a Hoyas fan (whereas The Duke Game was a re-conception, of sorts).
III's Hoyas will forever be rooted in The Duke Game that launched them on the road to the future, but perhaps the most incredible thing as Coach's teams move into their second generation is that we likely have many more moments, just as savory as The Duke Game, still to come. Hoya Saxa, indeed!

I was at the game but watched the first half last night. Turn up the sound and you can hear, quite clearly, the excellent "he beats girls" chant after DevoEdited shoots the technical FTs. Also, I can't remember who it was who was bemoaning the loss of the "Hoyas Against Domestic Violence" sign, but it was also very visible in a crowd shot.

Early word is that Nikita will be replacing Geithner for Obama's Treasury pick due to the tax evasion problems. He will then fix TARP over a game of 1-on-1 with the President (elect) and pull us into a new age of prosperity. Nothing can stop this man!

Am I alone in thinking this isn't a big deal? Back in the pre-III days, often the most we could hope for was a showcase spot on News Channel 8, which campus cable didn't even get! We've come a long way in a short few years, and while a case can easily be made that ours is the premiere game of the day, it doesn't really matter whether we're ESPN or the Deuce. Fact is, and we all know it, Georgetown is a top program, we can watch almost every game on national TV, and that's fantastic.

Is it just me, or are the timeout promotions producers mailing it in recently? Especially in the Shake Cam and the FOTG promotions, they just don't seem to care. The Shake Cam on Saturday went to some chick who was SITTING IN HER SEAT!!! The FOTG was similarly (although not as egregiously) uninspired, giving the stadium little to cheer for in what is normally a fan-judged competition. Of course, this comes after last week's game, when the FOTG title went to a fan who clearly did not garner the most support from the rest of the crowd.
Also, do I need to mention the sad-sack layup, free throw, 3-pointer guy at the Provi game? WOW!
Hoyas promotions people: shape up!

Honestly guys. Rabinowitz did better than 99% of the bums who roam Hoya Talk daily. Give the guy a break, he's been looking forward to this for a while now. As fellow Hoyas we should support him. I challenge any of you to go on national TV without any experience and call a basketball game with two experienced commentators. Geez, who gave hoyaky the keys to a HoyaTalk account? I mean, this guy, who would get KILLED if he stepped on a court with any D-I basketball player, thinks that he is somehow qualified to comment on college hoops? Give me a break--walk a mile in DaJuan Summers' shoes before you even pretend to think of posting an opinion on a Hoyas game or player. I mean, I challenge you to go out there and stand tall in the lane as Greg Monroe barrels at you, ready to slam the ball into your face, concussing you as it rattles through the hoop. You have NEVER played college hoops, and thus you have no right to analyze such a great game!

Austin had a great game, and boy, what a game for HoyaJoker to pull out the "Austin's Backdoor Cuts" sign! That sign was great, and with Austin pulling off said cuts to perfection all day, the Joker really nailed it. Joker--you are a fine addition to Hoyas fanhood.

Our past two losses have each had their own agonizing faults, but one of the more unsettling common threads was that Chris Wright's drives to the basket produced few points and several turnovers.
Wright's driving ability is key to the Hoyas this season--he scores in the paint, draws fouls, and draws defenders to open up passes to the perimeter. I think he did this very effectively against UConn.
The last two games, though, Wright seems to have remembered that he gets to the basket, but he's forgotten the beneficial part of the equation. Instead of passing to an open man when he draws two or three defenders, he has been throwing up ugly shots over said large defenders--not drawing fouls in the process. Frankly, I think that this failing was paramount in the ND loss.
I'm sure that Chris and coach are working on this, but I was wondering what other people thought of this analysis. Am I off base? Will we see the Chris of a week ago for the rest of the season, or is this reason to worry?

Preface: Greg is fantastic. Heroic, even. This humble poster could not be happier that this fine young gentleman has donned the blue and gray this season. I am 100% satisfied with what he brings to the court and the University.
It has come to my attention that Greg is receiving boatloads of recognition for his Herculean skillz. While I'm happy that Greg is receiving his due, I fear that such glowing reviews will encourage him to be a one-and-done, which I selfishly consider a bad thing.
The purpose of this thread, then, is to start some buzz on how Greg could really improve by spending another year under the tutelage of JTIII and University. We must make the case to the NBA and the media (who OBVIOUSLY read this stuff) that Greg will be better in the long run if he gets a year in Village B, spreading his wings in a glorious campus apartment.
This isn't a mission to badmouth. It's a mission to improve this extraordinary player--here at Georgetown. Tongue in cheek is fine; we're trying to pull the wool over the eyes of those who would have him leave!
Let the buzz begin:
Greg relies almost exclusively on his left hand. He needs an extra year on the Hilltop to develop right hand skillz. This would be much more effectively accomplished at Georgetown than in the NBA.

What I find amazing is that no one has yet talked about the nexus between the UNC loss and the power of the Big East. The Big East is so tough this year that even programs that left the conference years ago are thumping ACC favorites. That, my friends, defines a good conference.

rah rah rah hurrah for georgetown! Picking up where you left off (although you skipped a line, dummy)... Cheer for Victory today! Also, SPH isn't a tool for starting this thread, which I like a lot. He's a tool for those lame birthday threads from last year. Geez, I would have never returned to HT after the embarrassment of starting those threads. Also, I think that the song needs a single tweak. From my reading of the original, we used to sing "Lie down, [opposing school name], lie down!" The addition of the opponent's name makes much more sense and even adds the desirable element of a semi-threat to the song. Why not get that going again? For instance, tonight would be: "It's been so long since last we met, lie down, you hideously ugly center, lie down..." Or something along those lines.
