Interesting to see that we're behind two teams we beat in impressive fashion. Also, the weird comments seem to be trying a bit too hard to be funny but miss the mark wide.

So you think we should be ahead of UConn? Is that your point? You could certainly make an argument regarding Syracuse, but anyone that would rank us ahead of UConn right now because we happened to win there a few weeks ago is crazy.

The part that is more ridiculous is that Louisville and UCONN are behind Marquette....I'm not sure what Marquette has really done to this point. They won at Providence? Beat 'Nova and West Virginia at home? Great. Syracuse and G'town are better than them as well.

You could certainly make an argument regarding Syracuse, but anyone that would rank us ahead of UConn right now because we happened to win there a few weeks ago is crazy. In a straight up Big East poll, 5 games through a 16 game season, I don't see it as "crazy" at all. "A few weeks ago" or not, it was an away dismantling. Now, as your incisive criticism points out, "an argument regarding Syracuse" can indeed be made, and that was the main point of my post--if by "an argument" you mean "a slam dunk case." We crushed Syracuse last week. They were absolutely embarrassed by the 10th man on our bench and all 9 in front of him. Sure, they beat Notre Dame at home and we lost to the Irish, but we were close in their own fortress--not a bad loss. To say that "an argument" could be made for our being in front of Syracuse weakly dismisses the facts, which absolutely put us in front of them. For the record, hoyals, I think that your poll is pretty spot on. I'm getting the feeling more and more that the home-and-away against Marquette will determine where we end up in the BE by the end of the season.

I'm down with you putting UConn ahead of Georgetown, though I don't think I'm crazy for having the reverse. Since league play has started, UConn has played one top-15 team. They lost. Sure, the Hoyas are 2-2, but I'll take that over 0-1. When Connecticut, which is clearly a talented team, beats a top-notch opponent, I will adjust.

Marquette has not won a game in BE Play that it shouldn't have won yet...granted, they have taken care of their business, which is all they can control, but they are going to have serious problems with the top 5 teams in the conference, which are undoubtedly (in no particular order): UCONN, Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse and Georgetown.
All 5 of these teams woud likely be undefeated through the same BE tests Marquette has faced.

I will also be jumping for joy if we can get a win in Milwaukee later this month.

UConn played a nice non-conference schedule, but their BE schedule has been pretty easy. I don't think it is crazy. Not sure I would rank us higher, but crazy? Not really.

blogs.thehoya.com/paranoia/?p=876Please look at the entire poll; the whole thing is ridiculous. Marquette at 2, with only one prominent win, which was against Nova? GU below SU? ND below Nova? Providence below West Virginia? How do you put Pitt at #1 and not Louisville, when Lousiville just beat Pitt, Louisville has no losses in conference, and has better wins than anyone else (at Nova, vs. ND and Pitt)? This poll provides lots of reasons to question the credibility of the student writers. Here's my take on the top 8: 1. Louisville (undefeated, good wins and just knocked off former top dog, Pitt) 2. Pitt (lost to Louisville, but has punished everyone else) 3. Conn (based more on number of wins, talent and potential than on quality wins) 4. GU (just beat SU, and has a road win against UConn; toughest BE schedule so far) 5. SU (as many wins as MU, nevermind the two losses; just lost to GU) 6. Marquette (as many wins as SU, but hasn't played GU or Pitt which are SU's two losses; fewer quality wins) 7. ND (.500 in league with a loss to SJU) 8. Providence (good in conference record, but lost to Marq and GU; fewer good wins than ND) Just realized this poll does not include Nova or WVU; our league is very very good and deep.

I'd put Pitt over Louisville for now. Louisville's only road win is Villanova, a team I'm just not sold on.
Pitt's only loss period is to Louisville, who I'd put at 2 or 3, but it was at the Ville, by six. Factor in the four point home court advantage, and that's practically a wash. I think Ville's other losses and Pittsburgh's otherwise dominant play places them ahead.
It's a similar reason as to why I would put the Hoyas ahead of Notre Dame.
