I love how the liberal response to this takes one of three forms:
1. Attack the messenger, say nothing about the message (see ScreamingHoya, above, and any number of HoyaTalk posters who refuse to debate on a board that was once their personal playground of righteous indignance).
2. Cop the "I'm just being objective and never criticized someone of the other party for doing this" excuse (see Barbara Boxer...who lied).
3. Say something more racist that also won't be called out. (Tim Kaine: "It was all in the context of saying positive things about Senator Obama." Why isn't this quotation a big deal yet? He is calling "light skin" a positive when compared to "dark skin," etc... Are you kidding me!?!)
The complicity of the press in allowing this type of hypocrisy is despicable.

Haha, that last part with the tank was the only part that can convince me that this will share any of the characteristics that made the A-Team so great. What's with the darkness of the entire rest of the trailer? What made the A-Team was the breeziness of of all the violence--everything was treated with a wink and a smile (except for when Murdoch got hurt!). From the cuts to the soundtrack to the voiceover, this trailer points to a movie that strikes the wrong tone. The tank in the air, though--if that's the movie, then it'll be great.
Also, why in the world didn't they use the original intro voiceover (minus the 1972)? Why a "facility" instead of a "stockade," etc...? Finally...where was the theme song!?!

I see no problem with this column. It won't win a Pulitzer, but it's a generally positive if skeptical piece. More importantly, it's coverage in the Post. Baby steps, people, baby steps.

Why hasn't this guy gone big time on the comedy scene? He's a comedic genius--"winning in last year's Big East was tougher than it is finding a job in this year's economy"--it's as if this guy is the direct descendent of Terry Gilliam, George Carlin, and Dave Chapelle.
If he's asking so many questions about the Georgetown system, I hope he'll at least investigate why it's so devastatingly effective against faux turtlenecks. I won't hold my breath, though.

Athlete's guide to book shopping.... don't pay 46 bucks for a how-to book. Unless you've got a good agent who will get you a ton of cash to pay for these type of things.

I've only been a fan since 2003, so older folks, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe "We Are Georgetown" was a cheer that we used during Pops' heyday throughout the 80's. Somehow it gradually disappeared, but during JT III's press conference when he was hired in 2004, he mentioned the cheer from the past and how much he liked it. The "We Are Georgetown" cheer was then reborn and became emblazoned on the student section shirts ever since. You didn't answer the question which, I believe, was how long have georgetown fans been holloring "we are georgetown"? I dunno, Brasky. Seems to me the question was, "How long have Georgetown fans been yelling, 'We are Marshall?'"

Ok, so these commercials are normally super lame because schools can never put their ads in the context of when they are viewed. They stick out like sore thumbs during a basketball broadcast...
I mean, you're watching a fast-paced sporting event and all of a sudden some prick from UConn comes on the screen playing his acoustic guitar. Or, just as bad, a school shows you 30 seconds of how good its science experiments are. Seriously? That is the model that most schools have used for years. Heck, Georgetown has always been guilty of the "maybe your average high schooler who is watching hoops will be attracted by a peaceful rowing scene" approach.
Here's the thing--that high schooler has already signaled his/her interest in Georgetown basketball by watching the game in the first place. The focus on hoops and cheering for hoops is absolutely the right approach. Remember, this isn't an admissions video to be sent out to prospectives; it's a promotional video to be watched by basketball fans. Provided the fans at the games do their (our) part, we'll prove immediately after the commercial airs just how authentic that hoops atmosphere is, because the high schooler will see us all yelling "We Are Georgetown" in the middle of the game. Kids see rowing scenes and think, "Fake." They see this, and they know it's real.
Of course, all of this analysis ignores the fact that good or bad, kids almost never remember the University commercial, so it does not matter if there's an overt attempt to include the commercial watcher in the ad, as in with an "Are You?" style caption. The best chance that the commercial has an effect and is memorable is if it ties in with the game and thus stretches its effective length beyond 30 seconds. This one does that.
Is it perfect? No, because college commercials will always be kind of silly to an extent. That said, is it the best college commercial for sports broadcasts that I've seen? By a mile.

Look, the NCAA is crap, and we all know that. On the other hand, if this happened at SUcks or UMCP, we'd be all over them for running a dirty athletics program. Have the right perspective, yes, but don't minimize this--this is a major embarrassment to Georgetown University any way you look at it, and it damages the great efforts (as exemplified in the case of 'Zo) that the University normally makes to be as clean as possible. This is a very unfortunate day for Georgetown.

How long do players have under the NCAA guidelines to graduate? It's great that he's finishing up, but it would be even better if he finished in time to count as a positive towards our grad rate. It's 6 years, right? That would mean he's got until May, right?

It was an incredible show and well worth the 3.5+ hours sitting sardine-style in Gaston. I also expected Reilly to be a giant turd, but he was a great host and courteous with the audience--definitely boosted his image for me. But Zo was the absolute star of the night; he was the very embodiment of a life's journey. Having additions from all the folks who were with him along the way was a real treat. One note--Tyler Crawford was in the audience; I met him a few times, and he was always such a nice guy but shy. This showed as he was a bit sheepish when giving the crowd a wave--great to see him around, though. Ok. 4. Mildly annoying person who kept on inflecting "Thanks" with this weird emphasis on the middle of the word. It was as if this girl had studied the "Smug" episode of South Park and was miming the way all the Prius owners in that episode said "Thanks." I laughed at her smug idiocy each time she said it.

Just for the record, I loathe the stimulus, too, but it wasn't a tragedy. One might be forgiven for using some hyperbole on the board. Still, it will be when we're paying the extra trillion to our creditors.

Why are people defending this tragedy still? The stimulus was a fraud; it was sold as a way to put shovels in people's hands, but instead it was idiotic tax cuts (300B-and shows that the right side of the aisle shares at least a little in this) and pork projects (450B) (and oh yeah...50B of shovels...yayyy!!!). Phantom magical economic multipliers or not, the least they could have done was actually put people to work (which was the campaign promise). The whole thing was a lie and the press went along with it (as did TC, apparently).
When you're talking about $1 TRILLION, here's what you do if you are (apparently) uncertain of what will happen if you spend it: DON'T SPEND IT!
Yes, that's right...I'm saying that NOTHING would have been better than this travesty. Maybe unemployment would be a slight bit higher (I wouldn't bet on it, though), but at the very least, we wouldn't have saddled ourselves with trillions of future debt and a giant economic anchor all for NO benefit. Just ridiculous. And to say that this outcome couldn't have been predicted is naive and a lie--there were plenty of sensible Cassandras screaming bloody murder during the stimulus "debate;" they were summarily ignored by the administration phelating media.
Sorry...this issue really gets me steamed. It was such an obvious waste of the people's money, and it will continue to wreak havoc on the nation's finances and output for generations to come. What a crime.

Those casinos don't turn away just anyone. They know they need to squeeze every dime they can out of the bombed-out post-war zone that is downtown Detroit. I made my only foray into that area freshman year--they let me in after my ID apparently checked out on their scanning machine. That my ID didn't scan and that I looked like I was 15 wasn't a big issue...they knew I would spend some cash (cost them $40...suckers!).

I think he should go to Indiana--they could play with 6 on the court, as no one would be able to definitively tell the difference between Rivers and Wattad. Or...maybe he's going to an Ivy school--he was just using Georgetown as an Ivy JuCo, and two years of Georgetown could have been enough to bump him up to fulfill their admissions standards. This could be called the "Ivanka Trump transfer."

Man, I feel bad for Kenny Perry. He would have been a great winner yesterday, but at 48, you don't have the opportunity to choke away too many more majors. Poor guy--he was far and away the best golfer for 70 holes...what a way to lose.

The student sections were fantastic, but it's not as if the NCAA was bieng charitable here. Witness the NCAA.com branded t-shirts given to all the students--every time the camera swept over the sections, "NCAA.com" was all I saw. That said, if I had a chance to grab one of those seats, hell yeah I'd take it.
