It was worth it--it made certain that JTIII ran out of his quota of not setting up a screen for the 3-ball shooter at the end of the game. Now that this quota is filled, we can get back to sane, end-of-game coaching. Yayyy!

We got smacked around during the Pitt game, and seemed to give up after Dajuan stopped keeping us in the game. That was before Duke. If you have a copy of the Memphis game, pull it out and count how many times Chris passed the ball to Jessie, or vice versa. Heck, count the number of times they looked at each other in the half-court set. With the advantage of hindsight, the problems are pretty obvious. Bingo.

Counterpoint: "Dave Finn is a sophomore in the college."
Shove it, Finn. You were suckin' on your mama's teats when that man who did recruit Green and Hibbert (whose entire career was shaped by his own work ethic and Thompson's staff) was ruining the program.

Also, it looks like Metro is going to use stimulus funds to close its budget deficit, so no service will be cut ( Examiner link) Magic money!!! Yayyy!

Way to be Greg! Big things for this team next year. I feel it in my fingers; I feel it in my toes.

No disagreement about him being an institution. I'd like a second person to be with him, saying the things we all are thinking if we happen to be watching the game on television while listening to the radio (which is what I frequently do) If you're thinking it, why does someone need to say it? Besides, "analysts" always say something dumb instead of saying what you're thinking, giving you more reason to be upset with the broadcast. Careful what you wish for, or else you'll get Tim McCarver analyzing the Hoyas.

Pump your breaks, hoyarad, that man's a national treasure. I love Chvotkin's voice and his intense engagement with the game. His excitement, always apparent throughout his broadcasts, enlivens simple radio pbp, and I often feel very close to the game through his words. As far as "analysis" goes, there are VERY few anlaysts out there who actually enhance a game watching/hearing experience, so why ruin the purity of the action with some BS from a (likely) schmuck who can't tell us anything we don't already know? Let me know what's happening, and I'll enjoy a broadcast. Chvotkin does that brilliantly, and that's why he's a Hoya keeper.

I'm glad he's saying this. It's chill time for Hoyas fans--when these kids grow up, they'll be fantastic, hard-nosed players (who do a little on the defensive end). I'm looking forward to it.

I think the loudest boos actually came for a couple non-calls while we were battling for an offensive rebound. I've never seen the Verizon Center crowd so p*ssed off at the refs. I think a lot of it was that we were already annoyed with the way the team was playing, and the general anger was just directed at the refs. Bingo. The boos were directed 100% at the refs, and this was the moment that the whole place erupted. Wright and a couple others were getting harrassed during a prolonged stint under the rim, and the refs just sat on their whistles (makes them tast better?). The whole arena went nuts--I'd say half of the side sections was standing up and booing the refs. The refs absolutely deserved it then as well as during the "phantom possession" when it seemed that there was a whistle, but then play continued for a bit, followed by ref confusion, which prompted the zebras to go and take a look at the replay (of what, we never did find out). The upshot was that Louisville inexplicably got the ball, and no call was ever made. Pathetic. The FU will remain controversial, but the boos showed an informed fan base.

Nikita

Playing Nikita is playing for the future. This guy is a freshman, as bmartin points out. Is he spectacular? No. But he's a pretty good first year, and his confidence has shot up by leaps and bounds this season. He is one of the best passers on the team, and as soon as his work rate is joined by a few more shots, he's going to be a solid player on the squad for a long time. Look for Nikita to be a fan-favorite and a huge contributor come his junior and senior seasons. Until then, he'll have good games and bad games. Frankly, I'm looking forward to his future.

I guess the other games are friendlies? All things considered I think even from a non-Concacaf standpoint the US-Mex game is the biggest one by far since so much is on the line and these are two WC finals regulars now. Definitely true. Even FIFA seems to recognize this, as US v. Mexico stories are all over their website. The other games aren't as "big," but along with the big one, they certainly make for an enjoyable week of footy.

I'm super amped for it. USA! USA! USA!
In addition, other than a Euro or WC, I can't remember a better week of international soccer than this one. USA v. Mexico, Spain v. England, France v. Argentina. And oh yeah--that little affair between Brazil and Italy today. Great week.

Hey...if you want to make this about anything other than some good natured ripping on Grandma, start a new thread.
Ed and NYR, you're ruining the fun. Can it.

Dementia is a very serious issue, folks, and we should all be supporting Grandma Speaker Pelosi in this difficult time for her and her family.

The viewing public was robbed of a Hail Mary to close the game. Warner didn't fumble the ball--he had the ball in his hand as it was going forward. Tack on the personal foul against the Steelers, and you had a legitimate 45-yard jump-ball situation to end the game. By my theory that either Fitzgerald or Boldin comes down with every jump ball, that non-review of the "fumble" cost the Cards the game.

Geez, you know things are going bad when a satirical thread meant to point out an announcer error gets this serious this quickly. Or did you guys not follow that?
