Anyone else totally pumped for Wed night's soccer game? Going to be almost 60 degrees in Columbus for the US-Mexico game. That's just bad luck for the US. I'm assuming that will set a record for Feb 11th high in Columbus. Expect a battle.

I'm super amped for it. USA! USA! USA!
In addition, other than a Euro or WC, I can't remember a better week of international soccer than this one. USA v. Mexico, Spain v. England, France v. Argentina. And oh yeah--that little affair between Brazil and Italy today. Great week.

I guess the other games are friendlies? All things considered I think even from a non-Concacaf standpoint the US-Mex game is the biggest one by far since so much is on the line and these are two WC finals regulars now.

I guess the other games are friendlies? All things considered I think even from a non-Concacaf standpoint the US-Mex game is the biggest one by far since so much is on the line and these are two WC finals regulars now. Definitely true. Even FIFA seems to recognize this, as US v. Mexico stories are all over their website. The other games aren't as "big," but along with the big one, they certainly make for an enjoyable week of footy. |

I thought I remember hearing that the game was Wednesday at 7pm, but on the way to work this morning, they said that it was tonight on the deuce at 7pm. What gives?

It is a streak to be proud of, especially considering that these "home" crowds haven't always been so friendly towards the people in the red, white & blue (which coincidentally is one of the reasons this game is in Columbus) |

Five times in this decade the US has beaten El Tri by that scoreline, including both home matches in the 02 and 06 World Cup Qualifiers (both at Crew Stadium) and the 02 World Cup first knockout round. And, if anyone here remembers, the last 2-0 scoreline was the friendly in Phoenix where the crowd was probably 60-40 Mexico-USA and Landycakes scored the second against the run of play with an assist from the ref, before Oswaldo Sanchez decided to go Ty Cobb on a celebrating Eddie Johnson. There are plenty of players on that team to hate--Cuahtemoc Blanco, Jonny "Frosted Tips" Magallon to name just two--but Sanchez is and should be the current Public Enemy Numero Uno. The only players I've found myself really liking on El Tri are Rafa Marquez and Jared Borgetti, although I only like Borgetti when he tries stepping up to Oguchi Onyewu and gets manhandled. |

The "home" winning streak versus the former CONCACAF giant has actually been going on 11 years now and yes it is something to be proud of...very much so. Mexico gets a top seed in every World Cup Finals...there are only 8 of those. If we win Concacaf again, we really ought to get it instead. We should have had it in Germany 06- lord knows we could have used it. |

Cool thanks. I wasn't sure if we played every year, twice a year, every other year etc... I also didn't know if we alternated between here and there. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't like those comments such as Auburn not having lost in Gainesville for 16 years, when they had only played here twice during that time or the sort ...
