"Authorities estimate between 200 and 250 people were involved, but no serious injuries were reported."
Wow, they really dodged a bullet. I expected a body count after reading that kids were throwing snow at each other.

Two thoughts:
It all sounds like a ginormous overreaction, of course, but I think I have to side with campus police on this one. Yes, it's a huge buzzkill for them to break up a snowball fight that's almost certainly just a bit of good fun, but on the other hand, snowball fights can break windows or cause other property damage. Or say, for instance, if the student who got hit in the eye had a shredded cornea or something, who do you think would get sued?
Smart students, like Georgetown students, like Georgetown students I know (OK, what I am getting at is this is what we did when we got some snow) would have stopped, waited an hour or so, had a few more drinks, moved to a different part of campus, and THEN started it all over again. ;D
Second, if you are the idiot who actually threw a snowball at a police officer, even a campus police officer, you are lucky that all that happened was that you got tackled and arrested. What the @##@$ are YOU thinking, genius?

Im guessing that the police let them have their fun and then tried to get the students to just move along after it got more heated and then some idiot threw snow at an officer which always creates a huge mess and is never a good thing to do. Idiots can ruin everybody's fun in no time flat.

Last night on the news they should the U. of Wisconsin with looked like a million kids throwing snowballs. Seems they were trying to break the Guiness Book of World Records for Biggest Snowball fight ever. Unfortunately, they failed and the title is still held by U. of Michigan. No, they didn't tell us what the world record number was.
But don't you think it ironic that one school tries to break the record for a snowball fight with the media there helping celebrate, and the other school goes in and busts kids for throwing snowballs?

Yes it is very ironic (although maybe has something to do with region? ) two things, it is Michigan Tech who holds the record, that record is 3745. (wisc only had 700!) www.mtu.edu/worldrecord/more www.madison.com/tct/news/stories/434634
