A big debate point between the Big East Tournament and now centered on whether it would be worth it to play in the NIT.
It fell roughly along the lines of "good to see another game" vs. "just end it already" from fans perspective.
And "they can work on things" vs. "it's a lost cause no matter what" from the team perspective.
So having seen the game: was it worth it to play the NIT game? Did we get anything out of it ("we" meaning either category above)? Did your opinion change?

Before the game I would have said no. Now I say yes. They played very well in spurts got some more expierence for next year, and I am not really sure what it costs us, unless a locker room fight breaks out and everyone transfers.

Yes - worth it. They played a very good, veteran team well on the road.
Despite the outcome, the team played its best game in weeks. Hard work over the summer and better focus next year should bring results.

I think it is always worth it to play another game. That being said I was honestly surprised to see us get an NIT bid. Does anyone really think we deserved the bid over teams that beat us like Cincy and Seton Hall? Good Lord, we end the season losing to St. John's twice in a week? I mean what did we end up losing 11 out of our last 15 ?? That is horrible, and three of those 4 wins were against South Florida, Rutgers, and DePaul. Not much to boast about beating those programs.

I hope this game, especially the last 10 seconds, leaves Summers with a real bad taste in his mouth and motivates him to elevate his game.
I don't want to open another beer, so switching to bourbon.

I had a feeling that JT3 would be stubborn and start Nikita. I'm not sure what the reasoning was but if he wasn't going to let Jessie start in his last home game against DePaul, he sure as hell wasn't going to do anything different in the NIT.
I felt the only way this game would be useful would be if he went more with Monroe/Sims or Monroe/Vaughn for longer stretches of time.
That didn't really happen. I think everybody on the planet has a feel for what the normal lineups have been bringing. They have yielded some extremely poor results.
At least I don't have to drive down to Blacksburg in the next few days.

Again, while it was a far more valiant effort than expected, they could've spared the guys the long trip to Texas to end it. I will give the game the merit of leaving a better taste in my mouth to end the season than two losses to St. John's in a week would have.

I am not sure how if we have seen a decline in development and motivation over the last 2 months..that we can expect a miraculous turnaround during the offseason when they arent even in live games?? How exactly would that happen? Its not the individual skills that are killing us. Its the team skills.
Not looking forward to next season any more...but I will watch and cheer

Its worth it if the guys remember from the first half that we can be a good offensive team if the players buy into the system. And really the second half wasn't that bad of offense either (or at least as bad as we've seen).
It was really defense that did us in and it really wasn't fixable during the course of the season. Actually I think JTIII biggest mistake was to try and fix it, and the results of that we saw in the stretch from the Nova game up until now.

Summers looked more awake arguing about the clock being at 2.5 versus 3.6 seconds than he did at any other point all season.

At least the shot was on line.

Not worth it... it was another terrible choke that further injured the program's reputation and probably the psyches of the players.

Team A: Zero wins vs. Top 50 RPI Team B: One win vs. Top 50 RPI Team C: Four wins vs. Top 14 RPI Team C is Georgetown.

4 minutes of bad basketball. happens every game. Would've liked to have seen them do something about it on the road in a tournament game. I guess that was not in the game plan.

It was worth it--it made certain that JTIII ran out of his quota of not setting up a screen for the 3-ball shooter at the end of the game. Now that this quota is filled, we can get back to sane, end-of-game coaching. Yayyy!

Worth it, of course. That game had it all. Blown lead, defense that can't get stops, opposing players hitting ridiculous shots, no coaching adjustments, missed threes at the end (including the obligatory ugly one, whether its an airball like last night, punishing the back of the backboard like the BET or Summers patented skimming the rim laser shots), Monroe turnovers down the stretch (makes me revisit the idea that we should have fed him more down the wire against the Hall), Summers looking great and disappearing in the same game, over passing down low....the list goes on.
Its actually nice to watch - after the first St. John's game, I had a lot of 'what ifs'...after the BET and this game, no sense in having those. It was just a brutal year and now I'm forced to read the recruiting boards in hope.
