Just wondering were did Gtown get that saying from and how long as the fans been holloring that. I know Marshall thundering herd has hollored that ever since the deadly plane crash in 74 or 75.

Hoya Blue holds a contest where people submit slogans and then they're voted upon by students and anyone with a working gtown login.

I've only been a fan since 2003, so older folks, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe "We Are Georgetown" was a cheer that we used during Pops' heyday throughout the 80's. Somehow it gradually disappeared, but during JT III's press conference when he was hired in 2004, he mentioned the cheer from the past and how much he liked it. The "We Are Georgetown" cheer was then reborn and became emblazoned on the student section shirts ever since.

You didn't answer the question which, I believe, was how long have georgetown fans been holloring "we are georgetown"?

Seems to me the question was, "How long have Georgetown fans been yelling, 'We are Marshall?'"

Ah didn't realize he meant the front.
Meh Everyone uses that cheer. I think it's silly to get your knickers in a twist about whether a team is copying another teams cheer. Especially one as generic as that. It's like saying hey they stole "Let's Go _____". If someone where to steal Hoya Saxa you might be on to something. I do know as CA said that it was JTIII's favorite cheer used at Georgetown when he was growing up. So realistically the earliest we could speculate could be 1972 JTII's first year JTIII was 6 at the time.

didnt it start out as a locker room chant among players in the early 80s? there used to be a lot of criticism that the players were not of the same academic caliber as georgetown students, so the players would holler "we are georgetown" before games to pump themselves up and show that they belong. then it became a student cheer.
i could have completely made that up but i thought i read that somewhere.

I remember Pitt fans yelling to us last year...."Penn State called and wants their cheer back"

Actually, since we're speculating, I'd like to speculate that we've been doing it since William Gaston enrolled in 1791, and because he was going to be a Congressman yelled (in the royal We) "WE ARE GEORGETOWN" (which at the time was true, 'cause he was) to pump up himself and future Hoyas.
So pretty much everybody stole that cheer from us.

It was just a question guys! I was'nt trying to start anything at all.Yes personally I think only Marshall should get to hollor it b/c of their sircumstances with the plain crash. However like you guys said cheers do get stoled alot by other teams every year and we are'nt the only team to hollor the cheer.Again I was'nt trying to start anything I was simply asking when did they start the cheer.
