I watched the WVU game again and it seems to me that our players are not used to the very tight rims at the Verizon Center. When we shoot, the ball often rims the basket or caroms out. A slight adjustment in our shots to put a little more arc (much lke the way forward Lynn Shackelford shot for the great UCLA teams of the late 1960s) on the shots might well do the trick. Conversely, we could practice at McDonough with baskets with tighter rims.
Our guys are not 2 for 16 shooters with good looks. Maybe this is the answer.

So the rims were extra soft last week when we shot 57% from beyond the arc against the 'Cuse? Or was the composition of the air such that the arc of the shots was just a little greater?
The problem was that we were flat in every way. Easy fix--try harder.

I have to admit, this game generated some of the more creative excuses that I have seen.

a little more arc (much lke the way forward Lynn Shackelford shot for the great UCLA teams of the late 1960s) Or like a more recent player that this entire board has fond memories of his three point shot (to avoid any confusion I am talking about JWall, not Hibbert)

we were flat. no excuses. We could've played every aspect of the game better. Hopefully jtIII doesn't let us come out flat again.

Hmmm...I actually would like to blame the Verizon Center advertising signage. When the ads change (for instance from Chipotle to Papa John's) the color all the way around the stadium changes. I think it's a distraction and certainly explains why we go up for rebounds like a team comprised of the 7 dwarves + 1 KGB Agent + 1 walk-on.

We don't need more arc on the shots so they don't look flat. We need more fire in the team, so they don't play flat.

I think it's the team's way of protesting the lame TV-timeout promotions. Maybe if the official time outs had more energy, so would the squad. Coach needs to get in the face of the VC staff and demand they bring the cash grab and bubble vision.
Also, it's probably a bad sign when the students in the layup/FT/3pt challenge stand a decent chance of making more shots than Jessie.

Keep in mind, happyhoya is the guy who after the Pitt game blamed the loss on our lack of sweatbands... I'll give him credit, he's nothing if not creative.

Sometimes the rims are unkind, its the fate of the basketball Gods. The rims were pretty soft to the WVU shooters so I don't think that was it for us.
Sometimes in life you get the bear, and sometimes it gets you. Time to move on and prepare for the Hall.

I thought that the effect of putting more air in your shot is national security through energy independence.

Really? Tight rims? If we're just throwing out any sort of explanation... I think the floorboards were definitely looser... That was definitely the real problem.

We used to replenish valuable electrolytes with refreshing Gatorade but now we use G. I suspect the name change caused an electrolyte deficiency which in turn caused a team-wide failure in leg strength and thus poor perimeter shooting. WVU, because they are obviously all hicks roughly 15 years behind the rest of the world, has a stockpile of original Gatorade and so were able to knock down their shots.

It's the moon's gravitational force that changes the trajectory of the basketball inside the Verizon Center during its waning crescent phase...
