On Wednesday night a game between two potentially really good to great teams, both of whom are currently ranked and in the best conference in hoops this year and who together make up one of the greatest rivalries in the history of college basketball, will be playing on ESPN 2. Those two teams of course are Gtown and Syracuse.
But the PRIMETIME game on ESPN that same night is Duke vs....Georgia Tech? Are you serious? I'm thinking if Duke had been playing Army on the same night it too would have gotten the main channel treatment.
Oh, well. As Pete Gillen once said "Duke Is Duke. They're on TV more than "Leave It To Beaver."

I definitely see your point... I don't care about what station we're on (ESPN vs. ESPN2) but watching the ND/UL game yesterday they promoted the Duke/GT game a million times with no mention of a huge rivalry game between top 15 teams on the sister station. C'moooooon.
It's a big reason why I want to beat Duke. Not only do I hate their whole schtick, I am sick of everybody in the country fawning over them like they're the Yankees of college hoops.

As a Yankee fan, I would have to say Duke is quite a bit like the Yankees of the last few years; lots of disappointingly early exits from postseason play.

I'm glad someone else caught this too...i was pretty annoyed about that and also during halftime when they went through a preview of the games that were coming up this week and of course no mention of the Gtown game. Ridiculous

Lame with a capital "L," for all reasons stated above. But then again, who really cares? It's still gonna be a great nationally-televised rivlary matchup between two top 12 teams. The atmosphere inside Verizon Center will be electric. I'm sure the players on either side couldn't give a rat's ass.

Ridiculous I saw that last night as well, it made me check again to make sure the game was on at all lol. That was ridiculous. Dook v. G Tech?? Really?? Whatever, it's never gonna change.

Hey folks. Coach K is cooler than snow.
How else could a Wet Point grad of his era avoid service in Viet Nam?

I tried to google the Nielsen ratings for Duke games vis a vis other college basketball match-ups. Couldn't do it.
In fairness to ESPN - and I hesitate to write this, I am being generous - GU and Syracuse got picked behind UConn, Pitt, Lousville, and Notre Dame this year in the preseason, so perhaps the Cuse-GU game is more exciting than it was supposed to be.
But it is a stretch.
It better be in HD.

Am I alone in thinking this isn't a big deal? Back in the pre-III days, often the most we could hope for was a showcase spot on News Channel 8, which campus cable didn't even get! We've come a long way in a short few years, and while a case can easily be made that ours is the premiere game of the day, it doesn't really matter whether we're ESPN or the Deuce. Fact is, and we all know it, Georgetown is a top program, we can watch almost every game on national TV, and that's fantastic.

Yeah, I am actually happier to be on ESPN2 at 7:30 than on ESPN at 7, if only because it is easier for me to make the tip. And it looks like it is in HD, so that satisfies all my concerns.

maybe this was mentioned in another thread but it deserves to be mentioned here i was shocked when during the nd game on monday bilas and others were talking about how harangody was a better prospect than the anointed hansbrough out of unc, i didnt expect that coming from espn.

Am I alone in thinking this isn't a big deal? I'm with you. No big deal. In fact, I would like to know if it's possible to get the TV ratings (Nielsen or whatever) of the two games. It's a great opportunity to see which game gets a larger audience (although I'm not sure if, with the different starting times, it can be accurately determined)!

does anyone know how many homes (or cable providers) carry espn and not espn2? i feel like having one means you have the other. so in some ways i am with PR and Bubbrubb in that this isnt a big deal, but it is annoying. But its not necessarily a duke thing, arent the television deals signed by the leagues and not by each school?

I don't know that I've ever seen that.
