On ESPNU with about 5 and a half to play, after another Monroe assist, the announcer cuts off the other guy and says, "Oh my god, this dude is dropping dimes!!!!!"
It wasn't GU's student Matt Rebenowitz either. Found it to be funny!

Someone tell Matt that "urgency" is neither an adjective nor a verb.

I thought Matt did well. He seemed to get far more air time than last year's winner.

Ugh...I was at the game and didn't hear the broadcast, but I was present for the "contest" at Midnight Madness that won Matt the opportunity to call the game. One these deals where they have students do a PBP call of a taped game (the ending of the GU-Louisville game...weird of course b/c that was a CBS game and ESPN was running the contest). All three of the contestants were terrible--which is odd because...YOU WERE ALL AT THAT GAME AND YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS IN THE HIGHLIGHT!!!!!!! Matt won IIRC b/c he had about 5 friends with him, which with the crowd of like 10 people watching this was enough.
On ESPN-Hell, the PBP would have been done by Sean McDonough who still hasn't gotten over the foul call at the end of the GU-Nova game. Dickie V would share color duties with Billy Packer, who would come out of retirement for the game. The student announcer would be Claire Cooper.
Strangely, ESPN-Hell would be carried by the same number of companies as ESPN-U.

He was sufficiently knowledgeable and was actually surpringly comfortable in the format which is a tough thing b/c it seems to be a "don't speak unless spoken to" type situation.
Unfortunately, as I said in the chat, he has a face for radio and a voice for silent movies...but that didn't stop bill walton (face and voice) from getting a shot, so who knows....

Honestly guys. Rabinowitz did better than 99% of the bums who roam Hoya Talk daily. Give the guy a break, he's been looking forward to this for a while now. As fellow Hoyas we should support him. I challenge any of you to go on national TV without any experience and call a basketball game with two experienced commentators.

I challenge any of you to go on national TV without any experience and call a basketball game with two experienced commentators. Geez, who gave hoyaky the keys to a HoyaTalk account? I mean, this guy, who would get KILLED if he stepped on a court with any D-I basketball player, thinks that he is somehow qualified to comment on college hoops? Give me a break--walk a mile in DaJuan Summers' shoes before you even pretend to think of posting an opinion on a Hoyas game or player. I mean, I challenge you to go out there and stand tall in the lane as Greg Monroe barrels at you, ready to slam the ball into your face, concussing you as it rattles through the hoop. You have NEVER played college hoops, and thus you have no right to analyze such a great game!

I thought Rabinowitz did very well both in his announcing and in his interviewing other Hoyas about their most exciting Hoya moments.

I thought that student did an excellent job - with more experience he would be just as good as the ESPN U guys.

I thought he was like a mini-Rich. Way better than the Raftery-wannabe if nothing else.

Said it last year--will say it again today--these kids did just fine. It's not like they are professionals and I know I would be nervous as hell being on the air--of course I'd have been yelling at the players trying to call a Hoya game--which wouldn't help. Main thing is--it was for ESPNU--which is about college sports, it's harmless, and makes a dream come true for fans. Would I want this during every telecast? No way--but for 1 game--it's harmless and the guys did a good job.

He did fine.
But could you imagine watching a Hoyas game if there was a Syracuse student announcer?

He did fine. But could you imagine watching a Hoyas game if there was a Syracuse student announcer? Yea, it would probably sound a lot like Sean McDonough

I missed halftime, but Matt did a great job on the air as the PBP guy. It is a LOT harder than you might think. He represented Georgetown (and Brooklyn) very well!

I thought Matt did great. Started out pretty nervous but really loosened up and got a nice little flow happening. Did much better than I could have I'm sure of that. I'd take that kid over Joe Morgan any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
