Going into the next three games, it was critical that Freeman come out of his funk and have a big game today. For the most part he did. I was surprised to see that he had 18 points (it was kinda a quiet 18), had a couple nice assists and hit the boards hard pulling down 7. It was nice to see him mix it up down low a little. That said, I still don't like what I am seeing from him from behind the arc. Eventhough he has such a pure stroke, it just appears that he is thinking about it too much before he shoots. With his game today his shooting percentage from distance is somewhere around the 28% range... where last year he shot around 40%. Any thoughts or observations as to why?

I came away from watching the game upset with Austin's performance...I thought he was lackadaisacal as usual and his outside shot continues to be off...then I saw he had 18 and 7, so I can't be TOO upset. Austin and Jessie need to get their 3-pt groove back -- maybe they should take a trip to Jamaica with Angela Bassett.

I think he played great, actually, especially when no one else was, save DaJuan. But I do think something has changed for the worse with his 3pt shots and FTs. I hope he can fix it.

Sure he hasn't been playing as well as last year but I'll take his lackadaiscal play any day over Jeremiah Rivers last year. Freeman does enough overall and is a weapon that any mistakes he makes are offset by his positives. I'm so glad Jeremiah left. It would have been awufl to have him playing 25 mintues a game with this team.

I think Clark and Jeremiah would be a better comparison considering he comes off the bench as a guard just like JR did last year. Also, I think the reason he left was because coach was honest to him and told him Clark would probably get more minutes and he would remain a defensive specialist, so we wouldn't be seeing those minutes from him anyways.
More importantly though, Jeremiah is gone, let it go.
Sorry to get off topic, back to the discussion of Freeman's performance.

Sorry to get off topic, back to the discussion of Freeman's performance. I'm glad he's gone. Like I said, we're always gonna find someone to pick on. (apparently it's Freemen now). He's doing alright in my book.

Austin had a great game, and boy, what a game for HoyaJoker to pull out the "Austin's Backdoor Cuts" sign! That sign was great, and with Austin pulling off said cuts to perfection all day, the Joker really nailed it. Joker--you are a fine addition to Hoyas fanhood.

How much of our 3pt shooting woes do you guys think comes courtesy of the new line? I know it supposedly doesn't make that much of a difference for good shooters, but it's strange that our 2nd and 3rd best shooters from last year are struggling so much from deep.

Freeman to me is hurt most by it. I dunno why maybe cause he's kind of stocky. Sapp is streaky in my opinion and doesn't have a textbook stroke. I think with him it has more to do with the fact that he's become the 5th option on offense and doesn't have the ball in his hands/bringing it up like last year (Wright runs the offense). With less shots, he's more hesitant to shoot, because he cant' shoot his way out of it like last year where he basically had the green light. I thought Summers and Wright would really struggle badly from 3 (I actually though it might be completley out of Chris's range) but they have done better then I expected, especially Summers.

I think it has nothing to do with the line and everything to do with his head. They didn't move the free throw line back and his FT% is off almost double digits. His stroke is perfect, his rotation is great, his release looks good...i think his timing however is off ever so slightly, and that's enough to throw a three point shooter of their game. IMHO, timing and hesitating before shooting = thinking too much.

Wasn't Sapp the 5th option last year as well? I don't have the ppg stats in front of me, but I never thought of him as a "scorer" as I did Roy, Jon, Dajuan, and Austin.

I am pretty sure Sapp was the one who usually brought the ball up court had the ball in his hands the most. (Wallace isn't the quickest or best ball handler. Freeman would bring it up when he was in to help out.). If you run the offense you have the option to shoot or penetrate whenever you want. Which means you can always be the first option if you want. This year Chris Wright brings the ball up and runs the offense. So he always has the ability to decide to drive or shoot before passing it. So Monroe and Wright are the two main options. Summers actual benefits the most since he feeds off Monroe and Wright. And Freeman is a scorer, so that makes Sapp the last option. I think if you measure the amount of time Sapp has the ball in his hands and how many touches he gets this year compared to last you will see that it is alot less.

Its amazing how some people are angry at Austin although, despite a two game slide, he has had a pretty good start this season for a soph. The disappointment should more likley lay at the feet of the senior and three year starter who needs to really increase his production if this team is going to truly challenge for the BE crown. Jesse needs to snap out of his funk. Austin's outside shots will fall eventually. But I have doubts about whether Jesse's will.

Austin may look lackadaisical, but he always seems to come up with clutch/killer buckets and at the end of the game you always look up and wonder how he ended up with 16+ points and 6+ rebounds. I'll take that kind of lackadaisical any day of the week.

When truly fast teams put the pressure on Wallace would at times cough up the rock. Nonetheless he brought it up just as much as jesse. And the guy you hate (Jeremiah) was called on to get the ball past halfcourt line a whole lot as well.

Point is no one guy brought the ball up exclsuviely. Sapp brought it up the most in my opinion. This year Wright is the main guy for sure. Sapp is getting alot less touches and handling the ball alot less.

It seems to me that Austin needs to get warmed up by taking the ball to the hoop or cutting to the basket and getting fouled and taking foul shots to find his stroke. I'm okay with him taking threes within the offense or off the break, but lately, I find myself cringing when a three is his first shot of the game.
