This is a very good game - much better than taking the runt of a big conference who would likely have a much worse RPI.

Ewing, 6'10? Not even close. Although he is listed at 6'8 in the write up at the start of the prospectus - while Egerson is listed at 6'9. Yikes.

With a game on the 23rd too that would be pretty tight.

Coach Rodney of Electro-lite calls out of mercenaries for the playoffs, so they might have a chance. With Tony Bethel, Byron Mouton, and Lonny Baxter in addition to Cheyenne Moore, Desmond Adedeji, Thornton and Crawford, they are a pretty talented team.

They have throwback versions at Georgetown Players and a couple of other places in the DC area - I'm wearing them right now. TVBP. I should have trademarked that

Agreed, either Summers and/or Ewing will need at least 5 minutes a game at the 4.

Summers long term future is definitely at the 3, and IMO that is where he'll see most of his minutes this year. And he is likely to be bigger than most of the opposing 3s (many of which will actually be guards) - which is why I think his post game will be important. He is a freshman, so it's not like I expect him to have fully deveoped skills - but he can't be another Bowman who never uses his height. Summers should be too big for 3s and too quick for 4s, and eventually he should be able to exploit both types of matchup.
As for his rebounding, it has been pretty lousy this summer - clearing space is something he doesn't have much of a grasp of yet. Although Tombs in general rebounded horribly and never boxed out, and I'm sure it will be better with a real coach.

ColumbiaHeights, Clyde's never really puts in a bad performance so long as Roy is there, and they are the best team to watch. They don't have the most talent, but they are far and away the best team and probably average 10+ more points a game than anyone else.
Tombs has stunk all summer, and I'm not going to go over why again - did that last week. I have a few comments on Summers though, since I have high hopes for him. He has 2 moves that worry me.
First is a post up move. He gets the ball, lowers himself very close to the ground, and sort of dives at the defender/basket shoulder first. It is sometimes effective, but will probably also lead to a lot of charges. He needs to rework a go-to post move.
The other move is when he gets the ball on the wing in transition (or when he just has some momentum) - if there is a defender in front of him, he pretty much always just tries to do a sidestep to the right, again often leading to contact. He needs to go to a spin or a "pro-hop" a bit more often, or this is another move that it is going to lead to a lot of fouls - he needs to change direction more quickly.

Yea, I'm not too motivated, as it was an awful game. Tombs had the Gtown 5 and Weingarten, and thus as always started hot (16-0) then started sucking - awful foul trouble didn't help. I think the same guy hit the last second 3 this time and the last time these 2 teams played.
By my rough count (hard to manage it all in my head), Macklin had 18, Summers 9, and Rivers 3. Summers was pretty much terrible after a 6 point burst to start the game, missing horribly on all his jumpers. Wallace played well, and Jeff did in bursts, but never really got into it because of fouls. Oh yea - Tombs' coach no-showed.
As I mentioned in the other thread, Chris Wright was there.

I suppose if Comcast doesn't have MASN by the time the season starts, I'll have to buy ESPN Full Court.

If Sapp averages 3 3PAs a game and hits 35%, I'll be plenty happy.

Beat me - this popped up while I was typing my post, so I deleted it and will re-post here:
Dematha won by 3, when Paul VI made a last second 3. DeMatha was up most of the game, and by as much as 18 in the 2nd half. Then Paul VI started pressing, and DeMatha made tons of stupid decisions and terrible passes, and Paul VI started catching up. But then they started just jacking 3s every position, and didn't quite get there.
Austin missed his 1st two shots (a driving layup and short J), then made his next 5. This included a put-back dunk, a layup on the break, a 3, a short J, and another dunk. He didn't get the ball much in the 2nd half, largely because of the press. He finished with 14 points, 6/9 (1/2 from 3) and 1/2 from the line. He had a number of nice assists. Austin throws very good lead passes on the break, and also had a nice dump off to Braswell for a dunk. He also loves to attack the rim after misses, and has had a put back dunk everytime I've seen him play.
Chris Braswell had 8 points in the first half with some buckets around the basket and FTs. Not sure what he finished with - maybe 10? He had a few bad passes, where he tried to be a little too creative. But he's a good rebounder and post player, and has a good handle for a PF. Needs to work on his jumper, and I think he needs to get in better shape. But I'd be very surprised if he doesn't end up here. Seems like he's friendly with Austin and we are always mentioned as his leader.
JTII was watching the game, and Hibbert was there at one point as well. Saw Burke and Mike Brey talking as I walked out.
Not a great game ( I hate running clocks) but can't complain too much for 3 bucks.

Tombs were 3-5. Clyde's I believe 7-1 (only loss without Hibbert). I had heard Myers and Alterman had 1 loss heading into yesterday, but not sure if that was accurate.

A few notes:
Clydes' game - after Roy's amazing jaunt down the court and no look pass, he actually got under the basket and tipped in the missed 3 pointer. Also, Sapp did make a 3 towards the end of the game, for those worried about that sort of thing.
Tombs - Macklin had a very strange day. The first half might have been his worst of the summer. An ongoing problem, he dropped 2 passes in the first 5 minutes, one which would have led to an easy dunk. He then got pulled for the entire half. The 2nd half, however, was probably his best of the summer. He was constantly getting in great position and running the court well, and finished every time. Also had the game winner.
I was actually happy with how Rivers played today - despite the stats I thought it was one of his best games. I thought he played very good D, and was more in control on offense. He had a couple of nice drive and scores and a put-back. He also had a few very nice passes. The more I see him the more I'm more convinced he could give us some solid backup PG minutes.
Thornton has just been terrible when I've watched. You can tell when he wants to shoot, and he usually lets it go no matter how well covered his. Not only did he miss all his 3s, but he got stripped trying to shoot one down 3 with a minute left. Apparently he had 18 points in a half in 1 game, bu whenever I'm there it's ugly.
Funny/sad stuff - As noted, the Bulldogs didn't have jerseys. Byron Mouton, one of the mercenaries that Coach Rodney always tracks down, showed up in a pink collared shirt. Apparently the pink shirt was deemed to not be play-worthy, and after the game started he began motioning to people in the crowd, trying to mime that he needed a white shirt. Eventually another player found him one.
The Bulldogs also had by far the most obese competitive basketball player I have ever seen. Unfortunately for him, he was also balding. And he fouled Roy shooting a fade-away 3 at the end of the half. So not such a good day for obese/bald man.
Also, if we needed more reasons to hate Maryland, the reason the 2nd game of the day was cancelled is because Jammers (Gist, Vazquez) no-showed and didn't bother telling anyone.

In that case, could you scan it? Now the shirtless images of Roy in my dreams can be more accurate

Wright was taking in the Kenner games tonight, which, unfortunately, included another last second loss for the Tombs

I agree with you GIGA. I think Tyler's chances in of starting are less than 5%, but I didn't want to offer 20-1 in case YB actually called me on it.
I'm poor.
