From the GQ Style Guy, Glenn O'Brien: "I just came across these in the closet, one of my prized possessions—a pair of "Hoya Destroyas," the team shoes of the 1984 NCAA basketball champion Georgetown Hoyas. In the late eighties I did a job for Nike, and when I was at their headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, they said I could have any pair of shoes I wanted. What I wanted was a pair of team shoes from my alma mater, blue-and-gray hightops similar to Nike's Air Jordans, with HOYAS printed on the heels. A few weeks later they arrived in the mail."The post continues at : men.style.com/gq/blogs/styleguy/2006/08/speaking_of_sho.html

I think he's a GU grad, but not positive... either way, it's fun press from an unlikely outlet!

They have throwback versions at Georgetown Players and a couple of other places in the DC area - I'm wearing them right now.
TVBP.

Only thing wrong with this story is that we did not wear the Terminators with the Hoyas on the heels until 1985. As anyone who has the 1984 SI cover framed in his home (and who doesn't?) can tell you, we wore Nike Legends in 1984 (white with Blue trim).
Other than that, great piece.

I find that 14's really hurt my feet as I have to curl my toes to fit into them.
