Nice - ODU has had solid RPIs for last few seasons and a good local challenge. Anyone with insight into how their team is shaping up for '06-'07:
2006 RPI - 69 2005 RPI - 35 2004 RPI - 99

I like it, Norfolk is a fun road trip destination for the season after this too since we signed the home and home.
Might be a fun sports weekend for me, cause I'm working on going down to Charlottesville to see Miami-UVA the day before the ODU game with a friend of mine.

Are we gonna play ANY top 10 team? Or even just top 25 teams - OOC? I count Duke thus far. Hate sounding like a whiner - just saying.

I like the match up very much. ODU is a very solid team should be a good early season game especially cause it's shaping upto be the opener. It'll provide a greater challenge than navy did last year.

They lost their top two scorer's to graduation, but return just about everyone else. Losing the two isn't as bad as it sounds, as they have a very balanced attack and go deep on the bench. This is exactly the type of team we should be playing, I'm happy.

Good early season test. We still need to find an opponent thats like Oklahoma State.

Pomeroy had a blog entry stating that Oregon was one of the "unliuckiest" teams last year. I'm not sure if it was luck or Ernie Kent but they lost almost all of their close games. A team with a junior Malik Hairston shouldn't be that bad.

This is a very good game - much better than taking the runt of a big conference who would likely have a much worse RPI.

Last Season, ODU ranked #53 in SOS Impact.
In 2004-05, when they were #35 in RPI, they were #16 in SOS impact, so that's definitely helpful.

I believe Alex Laughton is gone, so I wonder how good they will be this year.
On their board they are reporting this as a home and home - so we are going there next year in a dangerous game.
I suspect the home and home is good for the bottom line, though (no guarantee paid to ODU -- $75k, and I doubt ODU draws enough to make money at MCI).

Adding ODU to the home schedule at this stage is better than I expected. Based on recent history, ODU is probably the fifth best OOC opponent, behind only the four from major conferences, and in some recent years they have been better than Oregon was last year.

ODU hosts a very early season tourney this year. As I said on the locked thread, Clemson is the biggest name team in it this year. I wonder if the return matchup in Norfolk next year could be at the tourney?

They lose Loughton and Hunter (leading scorer). They return everybody else including the big forward Arnaud Dahi. I watched them absolutely demolish Depaul last season. I mean they won by over 40, it was a mauling. I also watched them in the NIT final (on tv) and they got crushed by Michigan but Loughton sprained his ankle and Dahi blew out his knee. Dahi is progressing nicely but may or may not be ready for our game. I like the game, should be a nice early test.

Interesting quote from the ODU coach: "RPI worshippers belong in straight jackets," he said. "We're servicing our program and taking into account that we have a great fan following at the Constant Center. The way teams can be hot one year and cold the next, it would take a National Spelling Bee champion to figure out ahead of time what a good road schedule looks like."

I love this ODU game, and I can't remember who I told about my wanting to play ODU or VCU, but it is going to happen. This will make a good HB roadtrip in 2007-2008.
