Here is a blurb from NBA Draft covering the Vegas AAU tourney: Also impressive for DC was Austin Freeman who has emerged as a top 10-15 college prospect. He's extremely skilled with good size, strength and athleticism and has the look of a future 20 ppg scorer on the college level. He lacks great pro potential because he's just 6-3 and not a complete freak athlete, but his long arms and great skill level give him a shot at the league if he becomes something special in college. Also strangely enough a Bowman mention: Another interesting prospect from Senegal based coach Babacar Sy's Stoneridge Prep (Simi Valley) is Ibrahima Thomas. Thomas is an inch taller than Diarra and equally versatile with great quickness and fluidity. He reminiscent to Brandon Bowman of Georgetown with a similar body type (besides being 6-11) and game, (wearing the same number 32,probably also adds to the resemblance). Thomas struggled some in this game after picking up some ticky tack fouls but shows NBA potential if he keeps working hard on his body and developing his game. He's a lot skinnier than Diarra, but has more fluidity and foot speed to play both forward positions. Here is the whole article: www.nbadraft.net/2006lasvegas001.asp

Did Bowman wear #32 in High School? Or is that a mistake in the article confusing him with Jeff?

More love from Frank Burlison And, after watching him over three days at the Nike Camp and then Saturday morning, I’m all but convinced that Austin Freeman is the best prospect on the D.C. Assault team. The only other off/two/shooting guard in the class of 2007 who is his equal or possible his superior is Eric Gordon. Here's the link to the entire article story.scout.com/a.z?s=172&p=2&c=548871And from Justin Young.... A voice from the stands said, "Austin Freeman is a scorer supreme." So true. When it comes to getting points, there are few better in the class of 2007 than the future Georgetown Hoya. Freeman can score with the best of them. He led D.C. Assault with 19 against the Nashville Celtics and just made it look easy. Now from what I can tell Freeman is 6'4. He keeps getting described of not being a freak athlete or looking athletic but nonetheless he keeps posterizing players. and getting by defenders. His handle is very good, almost point guard like. His shooting is about as good as anyone in this class. He is stronger than most guards and can post up people. He is more efficient than Dwayne Wade . He is arguably as good a scorer in the class as anyone and lights up everyone! He brings it every game. And yet some people keep questioning his pro potential. Heck, Ben Gordon is a 6-1 shooting guard and got drafted in the 3rd spot of the 2004 NBA Draft.

Just a few blurbs from rivals about Freeman and Hickson
Scouting Reports
Austin Freeman-scored 16 points and grabbed 6 rebounds versus the Celtics. Freeman started out on fire, making his first five field goal attempts which included three three-pointer and a slashing and/one bucket.
But in DC Assault's semifinal win over Double Pump, Freeman was off the charts with 34 points on 15 of 24 shooting from the field.
Such a natural and explosive scorer, Freeman is just a notch behind Eric Gordon in that he does not have the ridiculous burst to the basket on offense or the lateral quickness on defense that Gordon possesses. Nonetheless, Freeman is explosive and he has the most polished mid-range scoring game in the class. Look for him to be a star at Georgetown and to play ball for a while at the highest level.
J.J. Hickson, 2007 – There wasn't an answer in the post for the five-star big man from Team Breakdown. Hickson was a load in the paint, scoring 22 points and did the best job of any post player we've seen in Vegas in terms of getting to the foul line. Hickson made it to the charity stripe 17 times but struggled to get it done when he had the chance, connecting on just 10. When Hickson made his buckets, they were pretty. Hickson mastered the art of the pivot for scores.

Austin's team played for the championship at 11:30 am today. I don't know the results yet. If DC won they play the winner of one of the other tournaments. That may bring a showdown between Austin and Eric Gordon. More local news on Gordon: www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2006/Jul-26-Wed-2006/sports/8706799.htmlEDIT: The showdown is against the winner of the adidas super 64 tournament and the Main Event tournament. Gordon is playing in the Big Time tournament. You're welcome, Sir Saxa!
