Kind of a tangential (and admittedly naive) question:
Is it true that players who intend to leave early, whether it be their freshman year or not, can LITERALLY stop attending classes all together in the 2nd semester and remain eligible? I hear commentators, posters, etc. throw around the reference all the time during the "1 and done" debate, and was wondering if they are being literal, or just emphasizing a point. Does the NCAA only look at end of semester results?

I was just looking over the draft results after not really paying attention during the whole process. Just realized that NONE of the Marquette seniors got picked. I wasn't shocked, but somewhat surprised given their success last season. Well, James doesn't surprise me at all, but thought McNeal or Matthews could go in the 2nd.

congrats to them... I went on the YouTubes to see if I could find any highlights. Instead I found this:
Poor quality, but I think it's funny that someone went to the trouble to compile it. The description is pretty amusing as well. It reminds me of that unfortunate dunk Julius Page had over Ruben a week after we beat Eddie Griffin and Seton Hall.

This trade will be annoying for the media coverage alone. You know how many headlines will be created from Shaq's twitter lines alone?? Oh and if Mike Brown didn't look way in over his head b4 in dealing with 1 superstar, Shaq will inevitably call out Mike "I look more suited to be an insurance adjuster than an NBA head coach" Brown as a poor leader. Hopefully, pregame warmups and shoot arounds will be supremely entertaining. I've decided that Twitter is the worst thing that's happened to sports journalism. I think my head's going to explode if I hear the lead of another story start with "so and so tweeted."

Oh well? I would MUCH rather play Brazil. A South Africa win would have taken much of the glory out of the US win over Spain. All of the sudden it just would have been a weird and quirky tournament not to put much stock in. It also would have lent creedence to the (false) notion that this is a second rate tournament with second rate rosters and the big boys don't care about winning it. Furthermore the consolation game would steal the thunder from our Final. And frankly, there is no shame at all in losing to Brazil- but if we were to lose to South Africa, which is quite possible, the entire soccer-hating sports journalism industry in America would use it as a perfect excuse to say "I told you so." Would that be idiotic? Of course, but so is much of the American sports intelligensia when it comes to soccer, proud to wear their ignorance as some sort of a patriotic badge of honor. I'm looking at you Tony Kornheiser. I am getting quite sick of the overt condescension towards soccer on ESPN i.e. loser anchors making snide remarks about how they know nothing about the sport. And you're right, they do kind of act as it's some sort of badge of honor. It's really pretty lame.

"Police closed M street to traffic for several blocks on all sides of the intersection, which has become a customary gathering site for ecstatic fans eager to express their delight in the successes of Washington's teams."
The "customary gathering site"? There were so many successes that warranted a "customary" site? That hurts for someone who is an alum of the Esherick era.

SO, does he end up at memphis? And it is annoying that when gtown plays duke they will somehow be thought of as a worse team because of williams leaving (only if duke loses, if they win it will be overcoming the adversity of losing a starter) kind of how last season's win was attributed to Paulus' leadership...

I think I heard "vroom vroom party starter..." I had to watch the clip twice because the first time I was blinded by the hot pink uniform. yikes. sick throw down though.

Even if Jameer played heavy minutes last night for offense, why was he in for that last DEFENSIVE possession? I haven't watched much Magic ball prior to the playoffs, but I would think you would at least want some more length on the floor at that point. Is he supposed to be a stopper at that height?
Also, these finals have made me realize how much I appreciate the TNT crew. I can't stand Mark Jackson.

So if he's a '10, does this guy play more of a 3, and Lubick more of a 4? Any chance he looks at us and says, "they already have their forward with Nate"?
I guess in our system, the 3 and 4 are fairly interchangeable, but seems like it could be an issue.

So is the hunt for any '09 players/Juco's/transfers officially over you think? Is our roster more or less set for next season?

LW is headed to GU for a visit on Thursday. Really a bizarre recruitment in the past week... BJ meyers is just posting some junk to stir up interest. Williams is going to memphis. But is it true that he's making the visit?

He was one of the few to show any emotion on this team this year. I really enjoyed watching him play this year. We actually had someone who visually you could see that he cared. Emotion? Fist pumps after made free throws? Sticking his tongue out after taking a charge? That's "emotion" I can live without.

saw the cap classic saturday and it didn't seem like the US allstars were motivated much, but that being said. Olasewere was pretty good at the little things. He plays big and seemed to be one of the very few playing defense, tipping basketballs, rebounding, outlet passing. Always seems to be in the right place at the right time. keeps going until the end of the game... not saying he's Jesus Shuttlesworth, but i'd take him. Does anyone know if JTIII was in attendance?

that's 40 minutes a game that's hard to replace. Seriously, I don't think I ever saw him on the bench.

A broken watch is right twice a day too. I give Gottlieb no credit, and he deserves none. No need to give Gottlieb credit, cause he'll just steal yours... your card that it.

I would assume Cuse may no longer be a consensus top 5 preseason pick. If Flynn leaves & Devo, this team would have a significant fall off. If Harris goes, suddenly they look like a middle of the pack BE team (not sure why Harris would go anywhere). the nfl draft is coming up and also tryouts for next season of American Idol:

Maybe he's exploring options where he could be an immediate starter. Although I know nothing about Marshall's team.
