sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4285489Arrrrgh Danny Ferry strikes again! Can't they get young talent to grow with Lebron? Nope another old vet who can't give lebron enough support. Am I wrong? isn't this another short sided move by the Cavs?

Shaq on defensive end of court is an embarrassment. In fact--if it wasn't for Pat Riley adjusting to put Zo in 4th quarter to hide the clown like defense of O'Neal--Heat never win a title.
Why am I bringing up Shaq's defensive incapabilities? Experts are talking about the need to bring him in to "handle Dwight Howard" on defensive end--and let's face it--Shaq is closer to the embarrassment he was 2 years ago then he was this year with a "comeback" year on a team that didn't even make the postseason. Said it 4 years ago--he's DONE.

The Cavs should pull a Phi Jackson and have Shaq only play home games. Basically you want to save him for the playoffs. Shaq is actually not a bad choice to guard Orlando because when Dwight is on the floor he doesn't venture outside the paint. Ever.

I'm surprised Phoenix got so much in exchange for Shaq. I mean, I love the guy, but he's not worth 2 players, a 2nd round pick and cash anymore.

On sportcenter this morning they mentioned that Shaq played 75 games this season after averaging only 63 for his career. I dont watch NBA enough to relate that to his effectiveness as a player, but i thought it was interesting. I think this experiment will work out, but wont win LeBron a title, but as i said i dont watch much nba...

The Cavs got rid of the worst offensive player in the history of the NBA who can't play a whole lot of defense anymore, a guy who backs up your best player and most certainly cannot guard NBA 2's, a pick that they didn't have space for, and $500K that the owner doesn't care about. Even if Shaq isn't that great, they gave up very little of value.
If it's not a marquee name like Shaq, this trade probably doesn't even make headlines.

Ben Wallace is a corpse and had a huge salary. Sasha Pavlovic is an end of the bench type guy. the 46th pick in this draft? OK, enjoy Shawn Taggart phoenix. shaq, as old and as shadow-of-his-former-self that he is, is still shaq. he might not help lbj win a chip but wallace's corpse and two end of the benchers is not an unfair swap for him.

This is a salary dump by Phoenix, pure and simple. They got back one guy who may help them a little (Pavlovic). With Wallace ready to retire, the Cavs gave up next to nothing - not even a first round pick. Shaq and Z can now play 24 minutes apiece, and neither should get worn down. Of course, neither will get any faster or younger, either. Impact? Well, even if Shaq is the Big Cadaver, he certainly doesn't make the Cavs worse.
One thing I do know - if Shaq gravy trains LeBron to a fifth ring, we can look forward to the following:
"Hey, you know how I be I have more rings than K-O-B-E"

This trade will be annoying for the media coverage alone. You know how many headlines will be created from Shaq's twitter lines alone?? Oh and if Mike Brown didn't look way in over his head b4 in dealing with 1 superstar, Shaq will inevitably call out Mike "I look more suited to be an insurance adjuster than an NBA head coach" Brown as a poor leader. Hopefully, pregame warmups and shoot arounds will be supremely entertaining.

I think my head's going to explode if I hear the lead of another story start with "so and so tweeted."

And now we get Vince Carter to the Magic for a guy they didn't want any more. My, my. Does this deserve its own thread?
