"John Thompson III has followed in his father's footsteps in restoring Hoya Paranoia"
This is the headline for the cover of Coach and Athletic Director Magazine. The picture is Coach cutting down the nets.
Inside is a pretty vanilla interview.
He kept coming back to the idea of setting long term goals, but focusing on doing the little things right every day as the means to accomplishing these goals.
He also disagreed with the writer suggesting that his first notable win was Duke. Coach pointed to going to Davidson and winning as the key to giving the players and staff confidence that they were doing things the right way.
Oh, and Coach did not rule out throwing a towel over his shoulder at some point on the sideline.

From the Newark Star Ledger:
"The hot name to take over for Scott will be Sydney Johnson, the former Princeton point guard who led the Tigers to their monumental NCAA win over UCLA in 1996 as the team captain and helped them back to the NCAA Tournament the following season.
Johnson is currently an assistant coach to former Princeton coach John Thompson III at Georgetown, which is playing in the NCAA's Sweet 16 Friday night against Vanderbilt at the Continental Airlines Arena.
Johnson has been rumored to be interested in the vacant Harvard post, which opened when long-time coach Frank Sullivan was fired earlier this month. "
I hear Chris Mooney from Richmond is going to get it. But this makes sense. Double edged- sword. Nice that our assistants are in demand, but you get spoiled by such a great staff, you selfishly want them to stay.

Anybody remember Arnette Jordan?
He had a a breakaway, and as I rose out of my seat to celebrate the thunder he was about to rain down, he airballed a finger roll.
Whoops.

They did a dinner a few years ago. In addition, that weekend, Jim Jones invited all the alums to the marine barracks for a reception.

Savannah State had a 12-1 run late to win, fueled by Joe Flegler, DC native and former Wilson High star.

I spoke with one of the La Salle coaches who said, essentially, that our backcourt is good, our frontcourt is great...Bowman, Green, and Hibbert are all NBA players...Sapp is the best of the freshmen right now, he shot lights out. They were happy to play us "tough".

By no means does this suggest that GU admins should not do something like this, but as a comparison to Drexel, keep in mind, this is a game that they did not expect to host, so they really have to beat the drum to let people know there even is a game. Is it a TV game? They would really want to have a packed house, so maybe they might get another one in the future.

A friend of mine attended an AAU event at La Salle University this weekend. NCA had a team there. On Saturday, they lost at the buzzer. Apparently, Troy Brown, who was coaching got in the face of the ref, and ended up punching him. As the ref lay on the ground, several of the NCA players joined their coach in kicking him.
Once the fracas was broken up, NCA hurried out of the building, before security arrived. The rest of the event ended up being cancelled.
Sad. Really sad.

Makes ESPN's list of 10 athletes who played with anger. Pretty impressive that he is still thought about 20 years later.
Thread locked and post moved to the other MG thread which, though started 3 minutes later, already has 8 replies...

You sure it was Kirk King? Could have sworn it was Rudi Johnson.
That was the most excited I have ever been at a sporting event.
Favorite non-Hoya dunk was John Starks going baseline on the Bulls. Wow!

I vote for Boubacar, as well. And I will chime in with my Bou story. When he played on a junior national team in Africa, they stopped at a open-air market, in the midst of their travels.
While walking around Bou spotted a watch he really liked. He asked the price and the seller told him 20. Bou said no, sorry, he could only afford 10. He headed back to the bus, where the seller caught up to him and said ok, he would sell it to him for 10. Bou paid the man and took the box onto the bus. As the bus started to pull away, he opened the box to find...rocks.

I have been a contributor, at varying degrees, every year since graduation. Never a ton, but whatever I could afford, to show my support. I have been meaning, for several weeks, now, to send in a check, but have not gotten around to it. Last night, GU came up on caller ID, and knowing that it would be someone asking for money, I did not answer. Checking messages later, I learned it was Hoya Hoop Club President Michael Karam, thanking me for my past support and asking me to continue to support the program. I was very impressed that our HHC president would make calls to someone that would not exactly be considered a "high-roller". So, not only will I be sending that check this week, it now will be a little bigger than I had planned.

From the Philadelphia Inquirer:
"On the boys' side, Chester guard Noel Wilmore, a first-team all-Southeastern Pennsylvania selection by The Inqurer, said that he has narrowed his college choice to Georgetown or George Washington."
He is suppossed to be on campus this weekend.

As far as the Ga. Tech specualtion, Paul Hewitt was a counselor at Georgetown basketball camp the first year Pat Jr. attended. Granted, he was 7 at the time, but maybe Coach Hewitt saw potential (tongue planted firmly in cheek).
