tgo mentioned the UTEP game, featuring a packed McDonough- great fun- they scored their 9th and 10th points of the first half with under a minute to go. The chant I remember from that game was for their diminutive red-head point guard , Gym Bice (yes, G-Y-M)...who inspired chants of "Opie, Opie!" Should have won the NIT that year- damn Gophers.

Proud to be a Hoya, proud to stand among other Hoya fans, but I was not proud when the crowd chanted SAT at Michael Smith, taunted Danny Hurley about his problems, and I would not be proud of hitting a player with a beer can.

Lots of good ones mentioned already...I think the Syracuse game / Charles Smith shot might be my favorite.
That GU win over Duke capped a great night of basketball, as we also saw Kenny Anderson beat St.John's at the buzzer in a Cap Centre doubleheader.
How about the Weber State tourney game- I saw the ball leave AI's hands and my heart sank, as I knew we had lost, and then out of nowhere comes Don Reid. I spent a few minutes jumping around the room screaming things that cna't be repeated here.
The most fun I ever had at a game was the '96? UConn game- packed house, ESPN, both teams ranked high, and we took it to them. Iverson's dunk and three point play over Rudy Johnson still amazes me.
I think this thread shows what brings us all to this board...the joy that the Hoyas have brought all of us through the years.
HOYA SAXA!

Just prior to Fofana visiting the Hilltop, he visited La Salle. If it is just playing time he wants, he would play about 38 minutes a game there. If he comes here, the Christian Brothers will have another reason to dislike the Jesuits. We will know soon.

Happy for the success that Luke D'Alessio has had at Bowie State, but Derrick Payne and Atilla Cosby? Don't get chippy with that team...you might not make it home.

I am pretty sure it was a home game, because I had student tickets for the game.

While reading an article on college hoops on Yahoo, I ran across a name I never would have expected to see...
"BTW, you've gotta love the Ben Gillery-esque season stat-line for Memphis' Arthur Barclay: four starts, 21 total minutes, 0-1 FG. What's up with that? Is it just Barclay's bad knees? Or does this have anything to do with those fur coats?"
Now how many people reading this article do you think has any idea who Ben Gillery is? Just people reading this board and a handful of people in Sacramento?

Joe is a great guy. Glad to see, but not surprised, that he continues to use his basketball connections to give back. Though we have not had the success, on the court, we all would like, and some expect, I am proud that our program continues to develop quality people, as seen through this, Dikembe's unrivaled efforts in the Congo, and the goodwill tour led by Courtland and Omari. Hopefully Coach Thompson III will continue to produce outstanding men, while leading us back to glory on the court.

Embarrassing. I wrote in to their comments page. Wonder if I will get a response. Anyone familiar with this site? Is this par for the course or are they legit?
Got this in response: Thanks for notifying me of the errors in the preview for Georgetown. This is certainly not in character with what we try to do here at the Sports Network. Please know that the errors have been corrected. Thanks for taking the time to stop at our site and I hope that this will not prevent you from using the Sports Network for your sports information in the future.

I agree that rankings are often way off base. I also want to point out that as important as finding talent, is finding the player who will flourish in the system. Even better is finding the player with the ability and desire to become a great player. I hope the board forgives me this comparison, but if you look across town, Gary Williams brought Maryland where it is by finding "under the radar" kids who became great. If you have confidence in your eye for talent and your ability to develop talent, as I hope Coach Thompson and staff do, then where recruits are ranked means nothing.

Good thought 1803...seems like Craig thought so too. Now that a coach has been named, it can be told that a former Hoya was in touch with the Explorers about moving to Philly...didn't go very far, though.

That speaks to the DCIAA right there. How many games did he play last year. He sat out the whole year and played the playoffs. If I am a WCAC coach, I raise hell. I wouldn't be surprised to see the "City Title" game go away if the DCIAA does shape up soon. It almost didn't happen a few years ago.

Recent DCIAA players going on to play in college include:
DUNBAR: Brian Chase (Va Tech) Tre Kelley (So. Carolina) Bernard Robinson (Michigan- after prep)
CARDOZO: Rick Branham (Va Tech- after JuCo)
COOLIDGE: Dave Holmes (Manhattan- after prep)
ANACOSTIA Donta Smith (Cal-after prep-I think)
SPINGARN: Chakowby Hicks (Norfolk St.)
HD WOODSON: Antoine Mayhand (Miami, Fl- after ?-don't get me started)
WILSON: Ronald Timus (Morgan State) Bradley Nesbitt (Morgan State) Justin Ajose (Goucher) Chipalo Street (Haverford)
I am sure I am forgetting somebody- my apologies
Don't know what's up with Deonte. If I had to guess, he would play college football, rather than hoops. And I don't think Jeff is a Big East player...not right now, at least.
The sad fact is that most DCIAA players can't qualify straight out of high school, and even those that can are set up for failure, as they are not prepared for college classes.
Forgot about Nate Burton in previous post- McKinley Tech grad (soon to rise from the ashes?)
Hoya Saxa.

What we would have had, is a series of violations on our hands...not to mention an average player. Derrick was a very talented HS player. He was a tweener, though, whose game does not transfer to D-1.
What's worse though is his attitude (after getting a tech, and his coach asking him to calm down, he told the coach to "Shut the #*&! up."...then later refused to go back in the game), his grades, and his "extra-curricular" habits. We did not and do not need Payne.
I know the DCIAA very well- the things he did in high school would not have flown in 95% of the leagues in the US. The DCIAA has nobody willing to take a stand. It's a shame. There is so much talent in DC that will never get to Georgetown or anywhere else for that matter, because the DC Public School system is failing them.
Bebe, Big Sky, Billy Martin, Vic- anybody want to bet on the next DCPS player to matriculate on the Hilltop?

When asked why there were no retired numbers, Coach Thompspn always relpied, "We retire memories, not numbers."

Lonnie (Eastern High, GU, Northeastern) is Prime Objective. He has been touring with AND1 the last couple seasons, and also playing in some of the smaller pro leagues.

It has certainly seemed a given that the Knicks would trade 2 of the 3 Hoyas on the squad (Othella & Dikembe), but the latest on ESPN NBA rumors has Sweetney going to the Bulls in the Jamal Crawford deal (with Jerome going to the Knicks). I think Isiah is trying to rebuild his hometown team, not the team that is paying him.
