"Hoops" Weiss: We’re still trying to figure out why 6-10 sophomore Vernon Macklin, one of John Thompson III’s first big recruits at Georgetown, is transferring out. We know Macklin averaged less than three points per game and didn’t get the playing time he hoped for during his first two years. But, the kid has talent.
Given the fact 7-2 center Roy Hibbert is leaving and the Hoyas figure to flourish in more of an up-and-down system, Macklin would have gotten more offensive touches (provided he improved his FT shooting), even with 6-10 freshman Greg Monroe on the roster.

Take the basketball out of it. What if Joe Hoya decided after two years that he would be better off somewhere else. Who would begrudge that?
But, what would you say if the university told him,say an average student who does nothing "of benefit" to the school, but a student in good academic standing, that he had to transfer because he was not fitting in well enough. Or because they had such a strong class of applicants that they neede to clear some room.
Seems analagous to me.

Had the Stanford game on the computer with no sound while watching Notre Dame. Just saw the recap at halftime. Laughed out loud when I heard it was Curtis Shaw.
Clark Kellogg made the point that Johnson should know that Shaw is not an official you want to argue with.
At least we won't see Shaw tomorrow.
Hoya Saxa!

I saw a suggestion recently that the "last four in" play the "last four out" and the winners each get a 12 seed. Originally, I thought it was a great idea. It certainly would be fun to watch.
I realized though, that the only loser in this scenario is the 5 seed. How would you like to be the #17 team in the country and your reward is to get two less days to prepare for a major conference oppenent in the first round?

When I talked to Smitty that night, he was running a restaurant and also coaching AAU ball.

Curious if anyone had the same thought I did last night.
Out of timeout, Huggins seems to dispute that Wallace is the shooter on a play when he was clearly fouled. Unsuccessfully tries to ice a great free throw shooter. JTIII was clearly annoyed.
A few minutes later, Georgetown bench seems to claim that there was a clock error. Huggins clearly annoyed.
Maybe it was just me, but I swore after the refs were done and they told Thompson whatever they told him, I saw a little smirk on his face.
My interpretation was JTIII was letting Huggins know that he knew what Huggins was doing earlier and that JTIII was not going to be bullied in Morgantown.
Loved it!

I'll be at the Savannah State game, as well, cheering on their captain and former Wilson High star, Joe Flegler.
Go Tigers!

If he didn't know "monkey" was bad, why did he yell it to heckle Dikembe?
I respect the fact that he apologized, but I don't buy the explanation.

I saw the Nats first two games. Lots of DC fans for the first game, not many people period for the second- less than half the attendance from Opening Day.
It was great to see the first win, but honestly, watching the first game, I really did not care about the outcome. I just could not get over the fact that I finally had a home team to cheer for.
Here's to the beginning of a successful, unending run in DC! Let's go Terrmell Sledge!
BTW, as a big baseball fan, I always caught a bunch of O's games each summer. For the last two years, though, I have refused to buy Orioles tickets, because of my dislike for Angelos. So it is that these were the first two years of my life I did not attend a professional baseball game. It made Monday even sweeter.

I stopped listening to him years ago when he said that Patrick Ewing could not read. I don't think the Greaseman is the only DC101 hostwho harbors some issues with people that look different than him.

Too bad they spelled Fr. Kemp's name wrong, though.

Temporary move. Necessary because of the state of the old room- why put a weight room on the second floor? Replacement will be housed in the MSF...eventually.

That's a clever phrase he uses, and accurate in the fact that their offense is completely free flowing and predicated on spacing. But that is where the comparisons end.
Their whole goal is to drive to the basket for a lay-up or kick out to a shooter. It is clear-out after clear-out. They want as many shots as possible. I just saw Calipari at a coaching clinic and he joked about how his team had missed something like 150 lay-ups in practice the day before, but he was happy because they took 500.
This is a much different offense from anywhere else, except Pepperdine, whose coach came up with it, while coaching at a JUCO in California.
