Sorry if this was already discussed but I didn't see it anywhere. Props to BM-GW for informing us about it at HR and providing a link. The Hoyas apparently played La Salle in a scrimmage. Below is a link to the LaSalle Scout forum where their fans discuss it. mb10.scout.com/flasallefrm1.showMessage?topicID=302.topic

Good to hear that we're playing well in scrimages, of course a scrimage and a game are very different thing and no amount of simulation can get a player ready for going through game day. I am confident that we can do well this season if we did as well as these posters say we did with La Salle.

I think this is significant because we got out and pounced on them. While it sounds like we played it down here, I think we were often slow out of the gates even at home last season.
Tough to read anything into the second half because I imagine we tried to give some of the freshmen a look at that time after giving our starters a run. Either that, or we used the time as experimental.
Anyway, good news here...

I spoke with one of the La Salle coaches who said, essentially, that our backcourt is good, our frontcourt is great...Bowman, Green, and Hibbert are all NBA players...Sapp is the best of the freshmen right now, he shot lights out. They were happy to play us "tough".

Great report, topper. Thanks for collecting some intel for us. I would not be surprised if our current frontcourt made it in to the NBA, and Ewing Jr. won't be far behind, but I assume he sat out or was used sparingly for either NCAA reasons or for the purposes of preparing for the upcoming game/season.

"They're huge, ultra-athletic, have a few McD's AA's on there, and Thompson is an excellent coach."
Why does everyone always assume we have McDonalds AA players?

Its a compliment. Take it. Its because they assume that big athletic guys who can run the court and create their own shot had to be McD AA's.

"They're huge, ultra-athletic, have a few McD's AA's on there, and Thompson is an excellent coach." Why does everyone always assume we have McDonalds AA players? Because we do. We find talent, whatever the certain "label" or "ranking" they have. Can the kid play at this level or not. They may not be NAMED McDonalds AA, but they are better than a lot the ones that are named.

Ways right. When people refer to McDonalds All-Americans, I think they just generally mean "they have some of the best players in their class".
Jeff Green didn't play in "the burger game", but is he one of the top 24 players in his class? You bet your ass. He's probably top 5, so whether he's a McDAA in name or not isn't really that important anymore.

It's obviously not important on the court, but it sure will be nice to see one and possibly two of our recruits in the next McDonald's game. It can't hurt for recruiting purposes.
