"John Thompson III has followed in his father's footsteps in restoring Hoya Paranoia"
This is the headline for the cover of Coach and Athletic Director Magazine. The picture is Coach cutting down the nets.
Inside is a pretty vanilla interview.
He kept coming back to the idea of setting long term goals, but focusing on doing the little things right every day as the means to accomplishing these goals.
He also disagreed with the writer suggesting that his first notable win was Duke. Coach pointed to going to Davidson and winning as the key to giving the players and staff confidence that they were doing things the right way.
Oh, and Coach did not rule out throwing a towel over his shoulder at some point on the sideline.

First notable win was beating Pitt in the opening Big East game in 2004. Duke isn't the only team in the country, for crying out loud. That was clearly an enormous win for the program, at worst the second biggest win of III's tenure, but FIRST notable win? Nah.

The win at Davidson was definitely a good one. They don't traditionally have the athletes, but they have a pretty good system. After seeing the trouble Duke was having with Davidson, I knew we were going to beat Duke...well, at the very least, I had a good feeling with our chances.

As much as I LOVE the Duke win, the win @ Pitt made me a believer. I remember walking home that day thinking, "we may just turn this whole thing around."

They were ranked, and while they had just lost to Bucknell at the Pete, I think the loss to us was only their fourth loss at the Pete ever.

Yeah, I agree about the Pitt win. That was an absolute shocker. Had just got home and casually asked my old man if we'd kept it close. Went to bed with a smile on my face.
The Duke win was a terrific game to attend and witness and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. Importance-wise I think the UNC game tops it. Experience as a fan? The entire BET was a heckuva time, too, especially the final. But really any of those 3 games are tops in my mind.
