www.guhoyas.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/101310aaf.htmlThis year there will also be a special musical performer. . . .One of the highlights of the evening will be the unveiling of former Georgetown standout and first round draft pick Greg Monroe's NBA jersey on the back wall of McDonough Arena.

I have seen some posts criticizing big east football, but I think since BE expansion BE football has been on par with the Big Ten and probably better than the ACC. The Big Ten may make a lot of money but the quality of football in the league is nowhere near the hype.
BE football is high quality-fun to watch football, but east coast college football doesn't have the cache it has elsewhere. Hopefully a Big East network can change that and keep the league strong.
I say bring in the best Big 12 teams. For Basketball split the conference into BE East (traditional BE members) and BE West (Big 12/Old Conf USA teams/ND) or something like that.

Gary's is right that when you have success on the court your graduation number is likely to go down due to early entries, but where he is way off is with 4 year players. If you have a player that stays four years and doesn't graduate (and its not just an isolated case but happens often) there is a problem. Just from this quote it looks like Blake, Dixon and Nicholas all stayed four yrs and didn't graduate. I think DJ Strawberry fits in there and I'm pretty sure I am leaving out a number of other Maryland guys. Don't think this has happened once since III has been coach, and we've had plenty of NBA and overseas guys in those years.
"Steve Blake, you know what he's doing. He's playing for a lot of money. Juan Dixon has made a lot of money during his career, and they both hopefully will come back and get their degrees. Chris Wilcox is a lottery pick, left after his sophomore year. Drew Nicholas did not graduate, but he's had a very successful year, still playing and making a lot of money."

The ACC did absolutely nothing out of conference - what a load of crap.

AI did attend some pre-season games at McD back in 1997-98, he has played with Gtown players over the summer at McD, I have heard him mention Georgetown a number of times in interviews and have seen him wear Gtown hats, jersey etc. in interviews. Has the guy donated $$ to the university - I'm not sure, but to say he hasn't acknowledged the school is not true. I would imagine once he is retired you might see AI around more often. I know I've actually defended AI before when people on here have bashed him, but actually, the more I read, the more I wonder why Hoya fans still like to claim this guy as one of our own. Now I could live with it if he just made some mistakes in his life. But my biggest problem is why he has never given anything back to this school. All our other big name alums have been present in one way or another in the last few years. Jerry Rice, who had no connection, became a part of our Midnight Madness. Jeff has brought NBA stars to McDonough, so people have seen Kevin Durant and Michael Beasley on campus. But never AI. He's never at a game. He's never at a Midnight Madness. Never anywhere. JTII gave him the opportunity of a lifetime, and AI ran with it as far as anyone could have. But I find it pretty appalling that he's never acknowledged the school that let JTII take that chance on him. So why do we still care about AI?

CNY- "Thompsons" was referring to Big John and JTIII. Maybe you are right and the negative posters just want the program to be even better, but considering how outstanding III's job performance has been I wonder if some people just don't like him because he is the son of Big John. As we all know III not only brought an almost unbelievable amount of success on the court, but he changed the entire culture of Georgetown basketball and at the same time he hasn't seemed to sacrifice the academic mission of the hoops program.
Besides a few in game decisions - I really can't find much not to like about the guy and this is an almost universal feeling I get when I speak with any Georgetown fan. But when I come on this board - the negativity seems way over the top for people who actually root for the team. Maybe it is just the nature of these kinda boards, but I know lots of people don't like Big John and wonder if they may not truly embrace III and are just waiting to jump at the opportunity to criticize him.

The guy is just an amazing coach - a sweet sixteen, a final four, 2 Big East titles, 4 NBA draft picks, runs a clean program, never had one player who wasn't in good academic standing and is active in DC community.
Really happy we have him as our coach. Is there anyone else in the country that a Gtown fan would want coaching their team over III?
I understand that if you love the program you want it to be as perfect as possible, but I have a feeling some people posting on this board either are rooting against the success of Georgetown basketball or are rooting against the success of the Thompsons.

Way to go Jaime!! Tell it like it is. Time for the Big East to stand together. We could use Boeheim, Calhoun and Pitino to speak up as well.
I do disagree about Pitt winning the Big 10 - while in terms of money the BE is not close to the Big 10 in football - the quality of football in the BE has been equal to the quality of football in the Big 10 since Louisville/USF/Cincy were added.

You could also try contacting Father Steck.
"When not occupied with his mascot duties, Jack passes his days resting in the lobby of the Jesuit Residence and the evenings at his apartment in New South (which he shares with Fr. Steck, S.J., Associate Professor in the Department of Theology)."

Does anyone know what the current goal for the stadium is? How much would it cost to reach that goal?
I remember awhile back there was a certain amount of money that needed to be raised and we never got there. Does anyone know if we are still basically waiting for the money to be raised or has the idea of completing the stadium been scraped?
Has the Gridiron club sat down with the interim AD to talk about this stuff?

Hardwood - have you been following recruiting? Starks and Lubick are locked for 2010 with the possibility of Kendrick or Roscoe also coming aboard. I have heard different things about Kendrick coming to Georgetown but one thing I really believe is that the Hoyas will have a great season. If Kendrick waits to make his decision I think it will become obvious that we are a better program than the others he is looking at.
Also, I wouldn't worry about 2011 - all signs point to having a great class.
As long as III is here (which by all accounts should be a very long time) we will be a great program.
Georgetown hasn't even peaked yet - Marlyand has been on a slow decline for many yrs now and was only saved slightly last year by an incredibly weak ACC.
Mod Note: I'm going to move this thread to the recruiting board.
