The guy is just an amazing coach - a sweet sixteen, a final four, 2 Big East titles, 4 NBA draft picks, runs a clean program, never had one player who wasn't in good academic standing and is active in DC community.
Really happy we have him as our coach. Is there anyone else in the country that a Gtown fan would want coaching their team over III?
I understand that if you love the program you want it to be as perfect as possible, but I have a feeling some people posting on this board either are rooting against the success of Georgetown basketball or are rooting against the success of the Thompsons.

I agree with everything you say about JT3's greatness as a coach and wanting no one else to lead the Hoyas. Trust me, if I did not beleive it, I would not deal with getting yelled at by my wife for giving money to the program and making it down to several games a year.
However, of any real issue, I think the transfer issue is the one people can hope is acknowledged by JT3 and fixed. That is where the sensitivity is coming from, people care about how Georgetown is perceived and do not want to give outsiders ammo with recruits.

This last part is pretty ridiculous. I agree that JTIII is great, but this is a fan-board. Even the most negative posters are generally upset because they want the program to be even better. I firmly believe that. (not including the occasional troll) And who is the other Thompson to whom you refer? Hollis? John Jr?

CNY- "Thompsons" was referring to Big John and JTIII. Maybe you are right and the negative posters just want the program to be even better, but considering how outstanding III's job performance has been I wonder if some people just don't like him because he is the son of Big John. As we all know III not only brought an almost unbelievable amount of success on the court, but he changed the entire culture of Georgetown basketball and at the same time he hasn't seemed to sacrifice the academic mission of the hoops program.
Besides a few in game decisions - I really can't find much not to like about the guy and this is an almost universal feeling I get when I speak with any Georgetown fan. But when I come on this board - the negativity seems way over the top for people who actually root for the team. Maybe it is just the nature of these kinda boards, but I know lots of people don't like Big John and wonder if they may not truly embrace III and are just waiting to jump at the opportunity to criticize him.

I wish there were more threads like this one.
We probably will never win the NCAAs (one can alway hope), but will will continue to run a clean program. We will offer our recruits a top flight education, won't lie to them, and will continue with one of the best coaches in the country.

If people do not realize that Coach is one of the top 5 college coaches in America they are not paying attention. I think most people realize that, regardless of what they discuss here. This is a basketball discussion site, right?

I consider myself a major fan of III.
I stipulate to all the good things said about him above.
Recruiting and retention are issues that must be dealt with.
Sometimes I think that Coach thinks he's still at Princeton. It's hard to imagine a Tiger complaining about lack of playing time, much less transfering out. Some did quit the team and stay in school I believe. These guys are rarely thinking the NBA is in their future .
He is now competing for the AAU 5 * type of kids. They have far different needs and expectations than his P'ton recruits. Apparently, even recruit/walk-ons like Omar and Nikita have them. Self-confidence is good but I didn't think they were intended to be anything but roll players. Where's the disconnect?
Will he adjust his choices in both recruiting and game coaching? I don't think the P'ton set has a thing to do with it but I could be wrong. I trust him to evolve the system so that the more talented players he now recruits can exploit it.
I still wonder how he got kids he didn't recruit to the FF, P'ton offense and all.
He needs to find more kids like Jon Wallace who would have done anything Coach asked of him, kids who are stealth stars, late bloomers [Roy comes to mind.] These kind of kids got him there.
Jon might have gotten more out of his own abilities than anyone I've seen around here for a while. He was recruited for P'ton.
Does any of this make sense to anyone else?

I like III, but I disagree with the last part of the post as well. In fact, it's usually the eternal optimists/ defenders of everything related to the program that tend to annoy me.
It's a different story on here, but it could be because in person, a lot (not all) of those people encompass the group of fans who never watched basketball/ sports until college, got really into Hoya Blue, and don't understand basketball whatsoever. As a result, they always defend anything the team/ coach/ program does.
Again, it's different on here, I'm just talking about why the optimist viewpoint may tend to lead others to posts that can be perceived as negative. Those people I outlined above do exist.
We all like the Hoyas, so it is completely fair to discuss things that people see as imperfect. That's generally the basis for discussion, and frankly, the basis for which I've encountered almost all sports discussion my entire life
