www.bigeast.org/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=19400&ATCLID=204816820Women picked to finish 8th in the big east. I'm hoping for good things this year. I'm hoping the women can build off of their deep NIT run and make the NCAAs! not out of the question,BE got 7 teams in last year and we're only 2 pts behind syracuse for the 7th spot.

I'm hoping the Lady Hoyas can build off their run in the WNIT last year and make the NCAA's as well.
This is Coach Flournoy's 6th season, and the team has been making baby steps out of mediocrity ever since she has been here. It's time to start running. This season is the year.

Lady Hoyas defeat Missouri State 79-55 on the road to start the season. Freshman Ta'Shauna "Sugar" Rodgers led the way with 21 points in her debut. An encouraging start.
Interesting that the Lady Hoyas start the season with six straight games away from home. They play at JMU on Wednesday, then go to West Lafayette, Indiana for three games in the BTI Classic, which will include a matchup with Purdue which will be televised on the Big Ten Network. Then it will play at Central Michigan before returning to DC for its home opener vs. Wofford on November 28.
Take it one game at a time of course, but it would be nice to see the Hoyas start 5-1 in their first six games before returning home. Purdue should be tough, but all others seem definitely winnable.

guhoyas.cstv.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/111609aaa.htmlWomen announce two fall signings. Samisha Powell who "has been nominated as a McDonald's All-American. " and "is currently ranked the No. 88 overall recruit for her class by HoopGurlz.com. " and Andrea White who is also "a talented track & field athlete holding Virginia state titles in long jump, high jump and triple jump."

It's really great to hear the women continually making strides in the right direction. They seem to be building not just for this year, but have a strong future over the course of the next few years with what seems (I don't know too much about women's basketball) to be a VERY strong freshmen class. Hopefully they'll start catching more student interest and make home games a real home court advantage for us (probably wishful thinking)

The last two classes have been very good and large hence the smaller class this year. women are definitely moving in the right direction.

And... the Lady Hoyas take a step backward, blowing a 14-point halftime lead and falling to JMU, 79-76. Three-game BTI Classic Tournament is next, over the weekend.

Per the front page, Meredith Cox's career comes to an end due to an undisclosed injury: ydr.inyork.com/ci_13829256. In my opinion, this is sad to hear, because she was a pretty good 3-point threat off the bench (guess we could have used her in that game against JMU). It seemed last season that her minutes diminished from the previous seasons, but she always seemed to have a decent stroke

Women up 4 at half time @ #23 Purdue. Seriously watch it if you get the Big 10 network.

This win may be one of the biggest for our program in recent memory. When was our last win over a ranked opponent?

This win may be one of the biggest for our program in recent memory. When was our last win over a ranked opponent? 78-71 victory over No. 22 Syracuse on February 2, 2008. I was there. It was fun. Syracuse's coach should be locked in whatever the Fashion Police version of Gitmo is. guhoyas.cstv.com/sports/w-baskbl/recaps/020208aab.html

Women are now 6-2 heading into Saturday's home showdown vs. Wake Forest at 1pm on Saturday.
Wake Forest is 6-0 on the season so far, mostly against cupcakes (although they did beat South Florida 62-45). However, Georgetown beat Wake on the road 72-61 in the second round of the WNIT last year. Should be a good matchup.

Students can also benefit greatly if they show up Saturday. The first 50 get a free Chipotle entree, a bus ride right to Verizon afterwards and guaranteed front row seats for the AU game.
