Ugh, tough loss for the Hoyas. Had their chances and couldn't convert (offensively and defensively). Still can't believe we have not won a Big East tournament game in nine years. According to the GUHoyas.com archives, Coach Williams-Fluronoy is 0-3 in the Big East Tournament - it's her sixth year, but the team missed the tournament three consecutive seasons from 2006-2008 when only the top 12 teams were invited.
Still, really no matter. We'll see what NCAA seed we get. Still like this team's chances.

According to Charlie Creme's most recent Bracketology out today, the Hoyas hold steady as a 4-seed. They would be playing in Norfolk, VA against 13-seed Old Dominion, which I still think would be terribly unfair, since it's essentially a home game for the Monarchs. Charlie also did not have kind words for the Hoyas' performance last night: "The Hoyas put up their worst performance of the year against Rutgers and now have a longer-than-desired wait until the NCAA Tournament." espn.go.com/ncw/bracketology

Based on our style of play( Pressing and running) having a long rest before the tournament might be just what the team needs.

Tough loss last night. I'm sure the team was having nightmares of that banked-in three. Hopefully they can regroup and have a strong showing in the NCAAs. We lost in our first game of the BET last year and made a deep run in the NIT, why can't we do the same this year in the NCAAs?!

Don't forget: Women's NCAA Selection show on ESPN tonight, 7pm EST. FWIW, ESPN.com's Charlie Creme projects the Hoyas as a 4-seed playing 13-seed Lehigh (29-3, Patriot League champions) in Norfolk, VA on March 21. espn.go.com/ncw/bracketology

Hoyas the 5-seed in the Memphis bracket, I believe, playing 12-seed Marist on Saturday night in Berkeley, CA. Potential second round matchup with 4-seed Baylor, where they showed clips of some beast of a woman dunking multiple times.
More on this later.

So, I confess to being profoundly ignorant of the way the women's selection committee does things, but I didn't realize that they don't do much in terms of geographic balancing/higher seed protection in some cases.
The most egregious example would be #2 Texas A&M getting a likely second round matchup against Gonzaga...in Seattle. This is closely followed by 6 seed Texas playing IN AUSTIN. So assuming they and #3 WVU win in the first round, the Lady 'Eers have to play a lower seed in their own hometown.
In the Hoyas part of the bracket, Berkeley is pretty much equally inconvenient for them (#5), Marist (#12), and Baylor (#4). But Baylor's first-round game is against #13 Fresno State, which is a mere 3 hours away from Berkeley...
Other examples abound. #8 Temple has to play #9 James Madison in Norfolk, VA. Not that it really matters, but UConn couldn't be terribly happy to have their likely second-round opponent be playing in their home state (granted, it is 4 hours from Harrisonburg to Norfolk).
I understand they want to keep travel costs down, but this just seems wrong...

That girl who dunked (Brittney Griner) was also the one who punched the other girl during a recent game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtaPtQnu370). Not that I want to get ahead of myself, but we got a potential match-up between two teams that don't mind taking off the gloves

As I said earlier, the women are the #5 seed in the Memphis region, and will play the #12 seed Marist Red Foxes in Berkeley, CA on Saturday, March 20 at 8:21 EST. Marist is 26-7, 15-3 in conference and won the MAAC Tournament for their fifth consecutive NCAA appearance, so they have Big Dance experience that we do not. I do not expect this to be a cakewalk by any means. The only common opponent we have them is West Virginia. The Red Foxes lost to them on November 16 by a similar score that we did, 55-50. I'm sure Coach Williams-Flournoy is a bit disappointed that they got shipped out to California instead of Norfolk, VA, where I believe Coach and several players have roots. I guess the double OT Big East Tournament quarterfinal loss to Rutgers really hurt them, even though Rutgers is a #9 seed and not a terrible team. Still, should be a fun trip for the team, and maybe some NorCal Hoyas can come out and support the team. Game is supposed to be on ESPN2, but only in select markets, which must include the DC area but I'm not sure where else. I didn't know ESPN had regional games. ESPN360.com is also available for this one. Second NCAA appearance in program history, first in 17 years. The first time the men and the women are both in the NCAA Tournament in the same year. Congratulations, ladies! Now, let's make a run! Also, the women are ranked 13th in the final AP and Coaches Polls. As the season is now over, I'd just like to bring this thread to a close, with some stuff that I posted over on the main board.
"The women's 2009-10 season was historic. 26-7 overall, 13-3 in Big East, NCAA Tournament second round. Team record 16-game winning streak from November 2009 to January 2010. Biggest win in school history on February 20, a 76-66 home victory over #3 Notre Dame before an overflow crowd. Tied for second in the Big East. Only the second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history, and the highest seed (#5) in school history.
Best of all, this is a young team. We had seven sophomores and three freshmen. Our leading scorer at 17.6 points per game, Sugar Rodgers, was named Big East Freshman of the Year. The Hoyas are primed to be a contender for years to come."
Wish List for next year: 1) This year's freshmen and sophomores continue their development as sophomores and juniors. 2) Senior leadership and poise from Monica McNutt. 3) Equal or surpass this past season's regular season record. 4) Win at least one Big East Tournament game (have not done so since 2001, I believe). 5) #4 seed or better in the Big Dance. 6) Sweet 16 or better in the Big Dance. 7) And oh yeah, beat #1 UConn at home, ending a 90-something game winning streak, prompting fans to storm the court at McDonough. ;D
Great season Hoyas, looking forward to Midnight Madness!

Check the WGTB Sports website(www.georgetownradio.com/sports) tomorrow for a new interview with recently named BCA Female Coach of the Year Terri Williams-Flournoy discussing this past season, the 2010 recruiting class, and the 2010-2011 season! Thanks Coach Flo!

Can we move this to the women's basketball board?
Sure.
