First of all, triple-B, my margins are perfect. Vegas is using them to set early lines right now, so you can shut your mouth! Also, what if we're 24-5, 4th in the Big East, and lose in the BET semis. Is there room for us in the top 2 seed lines? That's why I figure we get the shaft, with the consolation prize of playing in the East against a team with an inflated record from a weaker conference. Also, this is a message board prediction thread. What's the harm in wild, improbable speculation?

While I agree with people's comments regarding our inexperience vs. other teams returning players, I think most of you are underestimating or undervaluing how much better our talent is compared to those teams. I'll take talent over experience any time.

+1 on Roscoe, but after the Octavius Spann and Vernon Macklin eras, I worry about Georgetown's ability to develop players with awesome first names. We do much better with Jonathans and Roys. I guess that would point to Julian Vaughn doing big things for us.

I count 9 in the top 28. The same 9 that are going to make the big dance. Speaking of the big dance, I was thinking that if 9 BE teams make it, that automatically means that two BE teams could possibly meet in the round of 32. I seriously doubt that two teams from the same conference have ever played eachother in the 2nd round. Two Big East teams would meet in the Sweet 16, not round of 32. Go here: sports.espn.go.com/ncb/bracketologyand look at the eventual Pitt/Nova game in the Midwest. The guideline for the selection committee had always been to keep conference rivals away from each other until the Elite 8. But now, the dominance of the Big East has forced them to loosen that rule.

We are going to be tested early and we'll likely have some L's along the way, but if we can finish at .500 or slightly above in conference we will have an amazing RPI and Strength of Schedule and will be able to make a good argument to get into the NCAA tournament. Do you count 13-5 as "slightly above?" Because that is what our record is going to be.

Well now I'm legitimately interested. Please explain to Latin. All right, quick lesson: "Alumnus" - Masculine Singular, refers to 1 male graduate "Alumna" - Feminine Singular, refers to 1 female graduate "Alumni" - Neuter Plural, refers to 2 or more graduates, at least 1 of whom is male "Alumnae" - Feminine Plural, refers to 2 or more graduates, all of whom are female "Alum" and "Alums" - not words in any language, dead or otherwise Quod Erat Demonstrandum And just so I don't get in trouble for going off topic, a question: Where exactly would a new mens basketball facility be located? Are they planning on digging up more of the parking lot or put it back in the woods behind McDonough and Yates?

I'd like to fully endow a scholarship for HoyaTalk posters to take a 10 minute basic latin course, and learn to properly use the words 'alumnus,' 'alumna,' 'alumni,' and 'alumnae,' and to stop using the non-word 'alum.' We sound like Syracuse grads here.

How about Othella's inability to go up without a two-handed dribble first?

First of all, any move by the football schools would have to result in a league with 12 football members, so they can have their championship game. It makes no sense for a league like that to tack Georgetown on just to increase the quality of the basketball league. The real question is this: If the football schools go, and the basketball schools pick up a few Xavier types, which league get's the better basketball TV deal. Is Georgetown still playing in a conference tournament at MSG that gets prime time slots on ESPN1?

I too remember that Demetrius dunk with great fondness, dailey. I used to have that clip on my computer until it died. The beuatiful thing about it was that I think Seton Hall was playing a zone, and Griffin was well established under the rim. But the good times after that posterization quickly vanished later that week when Pitt's Julius Page dunked all over Boumtje in a home loss. Oh... and I prefer "Generation Samnick": Samnick lost generational privileges for me when I was at Yates one day filming a segment for GUTV and accidently caught Vic shooting around in the background and bricking about 17 shots in a row. If that tape ever resurfaces I'll post it. "Generation Hillier," "Generation Scruggs," and "Generation Jameel Watkins' concrete hands" all have nice rings to them, though.

Way to scoop me on the 2000 Virginia game, DFW. The first postseason game I experienced as a Georgetown student. To add a very small cent to this discussion, I think many of us in "Generation Burton," to borrow a problematic phrase, would put Demetrius Hunter's dunk on Eddie "DWM" Griffin of Seton Hall on 1/18/01 as the high water mark of the Escherick era. We were young and stupid then, but it felt as though that team was really going somewhere. Seton Hall was, at the time, a highly regarded team, and we were taking it to them on national TV. It seemed like that young nucleus was primed for a nice 2-3 year run. We all know what actually happened, of course, but at the time - magic. For those of us unlucky enough to have never seen a Thompson coach - we'll always have that dunk.

Big ups to SF for dominating this thread with his use of calm reason. I just wanted add two thoughts. Worrying about the possibility of a major injury is useless. Every team in the country could have their season derailed by injuries. Cross your fingers and go to war with the army you have. Two, our style gives us some protection against wearing down if we do have to go with a short rotation. Even if we're forced to give run to a sub-optimal player to get a rotation guy a blow, we can stretch out 2 possessions and then get right back to business. And really, what's the difference between having 4 starters and Rivers vs. 4 starters and Omar on the floor? We give up a little on-ball D, but recoup that on the offensive end because the other team can't play us 5 on 4. Assuming, of course, Omar has the skills to knock down wide open perimeter shots to keep his man honest. I guess we'll just have to see.

First, to anyone who thinks V-Mac was going to become an impact player next year, I suggest you read this: basketballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=9Second, to everyone who is wailing that we will be too "thin up front," calm down. True, we will not have many experienced, tall players. True, we will almost assuredly give up more 2 point baskets next year. But does this mean we're not going to be able to beat anyone in the Big East anymore? Instead of moaning about how often Summers and Freeman will have to play "out of position," think about how quick we're going to be with the ball. Think about the motion plays we can run without any slower, lumbering bigs on the floor. Forget about how we're going to match up with other teams, and ask yourself how teams are going to match up WITH US. See Warriors vs. Mavericks 2007 for an example. And sure, other teams can make adjustments against our smaller lineups, but that's basketball. It's up to the coaches to make counter-adjustments right back. I, personally, think JTIII and the staff are up to the challenge. Third, any chance Rivers transfers too? MOD NOTE: NO speculation here on potential transfers of active players.

This is not a big deal at all. Macklin was just not a good fit for our system. He'll do better in an offense that emphasizes transition scoring. Hopefully for him he transfers somewhere like that. And I don't think he had any chance of starting for us next year, except possibly in November/December games. Once the conference season starts, we'll see 5 of Sapp, Wright, Freeman, Summers, Monroe, and Sims starting (still not sure who I'd bump there, but probably Sims) and we'll have Rivers, Clark, and Braswell as roleplayers. I'll go to battle with that any day.

eh, I can't agree with you guys on this one. IMO, Roy didn't get the ball because he didn't want the ball. He's 7'2..he has to fight for positioning. There would be times when I would look at him after running down the court and he would be thrown around the post. Roy's opponent sometimes had their way with him. When he wanted to (see Wva game in the BET) he was a BEAST down low. But he rarely had that "go-get 'em" pitt bull mentality. I'm more than confident that both Dajuan and Jessie would have fed the big man if he played a little more aggressive down low. I'll tell you guys, two points IS two points. But nothing disappointed me more than Roy laying the ball up off the glass instead of throwing it down his opponents throat. I don't see how you can say Roy should have played more aggressively when any aggression on his part was called an offensive foul.

How did we get this far without someone mentioning the Jordan(R) commercial where they show BOTH our loss to Nova in 85 AND MJ himself hitting that shot in 82? Why would JTIII agree to be in that? And why are we associating with Appalachian State? Are they implying that a program with our history is a scrappy underdog? I don't like it. Our new shoes are awesome, though.

Is there any way to tell which time we'll (hopefully) be playing on Sunday? Like, since we play in the first session on Friday, we'd be in the 2:40 game, and the winners of the night session games are in the 5:15?
