HANSBROUGH'S A PUNK, AND S.I. WRITERS WOULDN'T KNOW BASKETBALL IF IT WERE GIVING THEM A PROSTATE EXAM! In all seriousness, though, it's nice to see some tempo-free stats showing up on the board. We're all smart Georgetown people, we should be at the forefront of hoops analysis. (We can't expect someone from air-conditioner repairman U to understand these complicated concepts.) I'm not sure who POY should be, I only know that it shouldn't be Hansbrough. If you think putting up good stats on a good team is what matters, there's nothing Psycho T does that Kevin Love doesn't do better against better competition, especially rebounding. If you think talent you can see with the naked eye is what matters, it's gotta be Beasley. Anytime Hansbrough has to play against a competent frontcourt (rare in the ACC), he get's tossed around. Beasley dominates some solid Big 12 front lines to the point where they're throwing junk defenses at him.
P.S. - I've been to a couple Cal games this year, and Anderson is only the 3rd best player on that team. DeVon Hardin and Patrick Christopher run that team, and Anderson picks up the leftovers when defenses adjust to them.

I love how we get ticky-tack touch fouls called on our guards and Roy gets bludgeoned all game, every game without a whistle, but a few questionable (although usually correct) calls end up on sportscenter, and everyone across the country thinks we're cheating our way to wins. As far as I'm concerned, we're still a net negative on the ref-karma scale, with the Florida game and Greg Oden's flagrant charge. At this point, I WANT to have a game blatantly handed to us by someone from the Tim Donaghy school of refereeing.

Is it going to take a tournament loss to a team featuring a basic 2-3 zone to get us to change? We looked listless, tentative, and undisciplined - AGAIN - against the Johnnies' zone. We have a major advantage in the tournament - especially the rounds of 32, 8, and 2, when teams only have 1-2 days to prepare - because we run such a complex offense and teams outside the Big East don't see it much. That advantage is neutralized if word gets around that all you have to do is zone us and we shrivel up.

I agree with 99% of what RDF said. However "The man had a good eye for talent" doesn't sit quite right with me. Personally, I was ready to forgive and - most importantly - forget the whole Esh regime ever happened after the first weekend of the '06 tournament. Heady times for a member of the Thompson-free class of '03 Then I heard the whole Joakim Noah affair. Where was his eye for talent on that one? That angried up my blood all over again. I was almost ready to move on again, and then this article comes out. I'm starting to think this is a good thing. We need something to get us riled up, Esherick style, every few years. Those who forget the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them.

I'm all for tuning up for Marquette, but given that last time we played the RedWomen it was one of the 5 most lopsided games in the history of the conference, I don't think we'll really need our offense "clicking" for that one. Having our offense "present" should be enough. I think we'd be better served using these two games to learn a real zone offense. (Hint - Summers/Freeman in the soft spot, Roy in the short corner)
