As much as I despise McDonough, I thought he was making a conscious effort last night to keep Vitale engaged in the game rather than spouting about Coach K, Duke, etc.
Sure, Dickie had a few moments, but I was actually surprised to hear Vitale discuss in-game defensive adjustments, etc.

I can't believe DJ missed that. It was his shot. I think it only would have tied the game. Nope. From the HoyaSaxa archives: I remember thinking afterwards that I fully expected DJ to make that shot - and I am as pessimistic as they come. As he shot, I was actually worried that the Hoyas were scoring too soon. Sigh.

Its probably inappropriate to compare this years overall stats to previous years, since most of the competition so far has been of low quality. You'll find that things tend to change quite a bit during conference play.
Perhaps better to compare OOC this year to previous years.
Cheers.

Honestly, I think Casual Hoya fills the role of real-time chat during the game.
But I'd still check in if it came back.

And for good measure, why not throw in the chalice with the palace has the brew that is true. Actually, the vessel with the pestle holds the potion with the poison. The flagon with the dragon holds the brew that is true.

He's going to re-classify and pull an Andre Drummond. He'll say all the right things--but come next August, you want to be in position to take him and not be caught off guard. What's the point of the late reclassify? It's not that I'm questioning your prediction, I just don't follow recruiting enough to understand why someone (Drummond, Noel, whoever) would do that. Is it to avoid a lot of the recruiting lunacy?

The Great Alaska Shootout used to be a big deal because it took advantage of a special rule the NCAA had for Hawaii and Alaska schools: the tournament was exempt (it only counted as one game). That was built in to enable the schools to entice mainland teams to want to play OOC games there - it was a means of offsetting some of the isolated schools' annual travel costs.
Once the NCAA decided to extend the tournament exemption to anyone with the mean$, Alaska was screwed.

Nice game for the Hoyas, regardless of the result.
You east-coasters must be tired!

The Princeton offense works just as well today as it did in 1989 - just ask Kentucky ( link). And it's not like Kentucky hadn't seen a Princeton-style team - Vanderbilt has been running a modified PO for years.

Did anyone see Fran Francilla's segment on Good Morning America about it? That piece will shape the most peoples opinions I would think It's an interesting point. The GMA piece ( link) was generally neutral about the fight (implicitly both sides were at fault). But on the GMA website, there's a link to ABC Nightly News' clip about the fight from last night, which paints the incident as entirely the fault of the PLA team and the officials ( link).

Check out 1:30-1:50. Take special note of the stomping at 1:45. Looks familiar. Meanwhile, how many fights have GU players gotten into in the last 10 years? Do fights between teammates count?

Kind of surprised this hasn't taken off on some more news and/or political* sites yet, esp. now that there is video. NY Times has the AP version of the story up, along with the iconic photo of Jason getting the worst of it ( link).

FWIW, saw this photo (via TNIAAM, of all places) that puts the start of the brawl in some context: Edited to add: Same photo as Dan's link, directly above

If I read this correctly (and admittedly I've just skimmed it), it appears that the NCAA Board has approved a new rule to prevent low APR teams from playing the NCAA tournament (or bowl games on the football side): link I don't think the new rule would take effect for several years. If the new rule applied last season, both UConn and Syracuse would have been ineligible for the tourney - along with SDSU, Purdue, Ohio State and some others.

Perhaps I missed this, but what position would O be taking? Did someone leave the staff?
