The NCAA rules limit redshirts to injured players that have played no more than 20% of a season. Bowen played seven games, so unless the season extends to 35 games he would not qualify. That's the old rule. New rule is less than 30% [14.2.4.c of Div-I Manual for 2010-11 ( link)]. Also, I believe that post-season tournaments count as only one game regardless of how many a team plays. So BET = 1 game and NCAA = 1 game. Too lazy to look that up to confirm.

Rebounding so far, per generally unreliable ESPN box:
GU: 33% OReb, 77% DReb StJ: 23% OReb, 67% DReb
Even though Johnnies have one more off. rebound (5-4), they've missed a ton more shots.

It's not like Hollis was the best player on the floor for the Hoyas last time they played St. John's.
Oh, wait . . .

Would you two get this civility crap off of HoyaTalk.
There's no place for that here.

Heard Coach on with Kevin Sheehan and Loverro this afternoon. The man is impossible not to like. Impossible. And listening to him was another reminder that there is nothing we are telling him on this board that he doesn't already know. It's an obvious point, but we are lucky as hell to have him. Been a frustrating 10 days, but hopefully that changes tomorrow. Thanks. Here's a direct link to that interview: ( link)

If anything last nights games proves the point that going big is the right formula. I just checked: . Offense Defense Thompson Poss Eff Poss Eff At "4" 18 122 16 100 At "3" 18 100 18 100 Off court 17 106 18 144 It's only one game, but last night the real lesson was that Thompson needed to stay on the floor for his defense.

Here's a question--who was a worse defensive player--Wallace or Freeman? And before everyone says Freeman, remember, Wallace had Roy Hibbert to back up him up. I don't know who's worse, but I agree that it's a great question.

The dirty secret about Austin is that he's a lousy defensive player - worse than either Chris or Jason.
Jeff, on the other hand, was a very good defensive player.

Maryland: 1991-00: 37-73 Georgetown, 2001-10: 28-81 Are you suggesting we hire Ralph Friedgen?

Per ESPN ( link), Memphis was up 24-14 with 3:04 left in the first half. They trailed 43-28 with 13:35 left in the second half. That's a 29-4 run allowed in ~9:30 minutes of game time (at home).

Is Anthony Perry the last kid who played for Bob Hurley to end up at Georgetown?

Hey guys, thanks for the plug.
FWIW, I've just updated the stats in that post through the App St. game. That lineup is now the 2nd most used. Coincidence?

I would guess that additional possessions created by offensive rebounds probably turn into more points than additional possessions created by not turning the ball over, since they lead to more layups or kick outs to open shooters, though I don't have any data to show that. I think that is generally true (I believe Pomeroy looked at that a couple of years ago while discussing DeJuan Blair). At least last season for the Hoyas, this wasn't true. They were just under 1.0 ppp on those possessions that were extended by an offensive rebound. I don't have the stats in front of me for the exact numbers, but I do recall being surprised by the result. Yet another blog post that was never written up.

Here's my question... All JTIII teams seem to have TO problems. Is this just part of some high-risk high reward offensive strategy where we either get an assist to an open FG/layup or a TO? Or is it just poor execution and mental mistakes? I think "just part of some high-risk high reward offensive strategy" is mostly right. When the offense is really clicking, e.g. Final 4 fun, turnovers go down and the team seems able to score at will.
