Technically, RPI wise, this would be the biggest win of the season if we pull it off. Our best RPI win at this pt is Missouri at 27, our only RPI win at home over a top 50 team was Utah on Dec 4 (god that feels long ago).
Obviously this game is important for other reasons. 4-4, avenge our loss, and get a win in the "rivalry". Austin has struggled last three times at St. Johns - time to continue his Awesomeness at Verizon.

We will win that game....then we need to split the next 4. We need to beat the johnies then split the next 10 to finish with 9 and 9 in the BE. Easier said than done.

Possible results from here out to get to 9-9. Hardest Ws are probably SJU, Louisville, and Cincy at home. Potential upsets could be @cincy or at home vs. Syracuse.

ps henry not playing that good like he was in the beginning of the season cant we give moses a TRY at least a few minutes to see what happens to INSIDE DEFENSE he aint the saviour but you never know just a FEW minutes maybe just saying lic, I'm with you on this. I did not see the game but from reports on this board, Sims did not have a good game. Unless there is a possibility that you can redshirt this kid this season after playing in 2 games, then why not give a 6'9" shot blocker a chance to play a few minutes of defense. He could not destroy your defensive and offensive schemes that much in that short period of time. He may even block a few of the shots and not foul where Sims would have missed block and fouled. Bowen at 6'5" has Thompson,Clark, and Vee in front of him so I understand there are just no minutes this year in a tight game, but Moses has only Julian and Henry in front of him at the center position. We as fans are not entitled to see a player play just because we want it if the coach knows he can't help team. However, with all respect to JT3, he does not know what this kid can ADD to the mix until he has played him in a big time game situation. Some years you have the luxury of not having to worry about that until next year, this is not one of those years. The kid is raw I know, but one of the most respected judges of big man talent in the country, JT2, thinks he can be one of the best defensive players the Hoyas ever had. You've got to try to see if he can help for just a few minutes. If the kid then falls on his face trying to shuffle his feet when playing defense, then I and others will respectfully Shut up.

Sims had a poor game, but he has been productive in general this year. We haven't seen enough of Moses to make any kind of judgments, but one thing Henry does do is run the offense and make deft passes to cutters. If we're playing 4 on 5 with Moses out there on offense, then Henry should be the guy.
As for whether Moses could take Bennie's minutes....um....

This week will (I hope) allow for a focus (again) on improving defensively. Way too many transition baskets given up last night. Yes, sloppy turnovers and some ill advised shots lead to those opportunities and yes, our backcourt is not as quick as they could be, but they need to cover each other better on defensive rotations in both the halfcourt and the full court. Thankfully, the Coach is not blind to this problem: www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/01/18/AR2011011806449.htmlAs GPHoya pointed out in the game thread, somebody should have pointed out that Robinson goes to his left EVERY time - and you need to take that away. They've played the Redmen once: I expect adjustments to be made to counter what worked against them at MSG.

Austin and Chris went 5-19 (2-12 from 3) and we still had SJU in a one possession game on the road.
We can do this.
(I know defense is the issue, but I'm not sure it's going to get much better)

They've played the Redmen once: I expect adjustments to be made to counter what worked against them at MSG. This. Anyone can make whatever argument they want about talent, size, whatever. Getting back on defense after a miss or a turnover is about effort and desire. Jogging behind or along side a fast break isn't good enough. Bust your ass back and try to draw a charge or foul without letting the other team score. Also would like to see somebody fight around a pick once in awhile. Again, that's nothing on talent. Have some pride in making the effort to go over screens instead of taking the easy way out, going under screens and giving up open perimeter shots. With an improved AF shooting wise, if we can just make the marginal improvements on defense that we're capable of, we should win this at home. Let's just hope that the 8 day break gives JV time to recover from his injury last night. I also expect the student section to put in a little better showing than they did last week, where it really was the first time I felt the non-student fans were more into it than the students, which should never be the case.

The fewer Jason-Hardy iso's we see, the better. Or at least let's not stick Jason on him when he has no chance of keeping up with him. I don't care about instilling confidence during this particular defensive assignment. In general I agree with Rockaway. Subtracting the home cooking and the marginal effect playing at home had and we should win this one.

Was St. John's missing one or two players last game? Or did they just use a very short bench? Either way, put me in the camp of expecting nothing on defense and hoping that we score 80 somehow. They did a great job of slowing the game down last time through a token press and deliberate offense.

With a week to prepare and the revenge factor, we will be better on defense. Whether it will be enough is another question.
