Possible results from here out to get to 9-9. Hardest Ws are probably SJU, Louisville, and Cincy at home. Potential upsets could be @cincy or at home vs. Syracuse. 01/26: ST. JOHN'S--W 01/29: at Villanova--L 01/31: LOUISVILLE--W 02/05: PROVIDENCE--W 02/09: at Syracuse--L 02/13: MARQUETTE--W 02/16: at Connecticut--L 02/19: at S. Florida--W 02/23: CINCINNATI--W 02/26: SYRACUSE--L 03/05: at Cincinnati--L

I believe that Georgetown can beat Cincinnati on the road. If we can get Villanova on an off night and not lose a game that we should win, we will go into the Big East Tournament in good shape.

Georgetown always gives Jay Wright's Nova trouble--anyone who is counting that as a loss needs to pay attention to recent history. Even the most uninspired group III has had (09 team) won at Nova in the lone matchup. That game will be up for grabs and is winnable.
I'm more concerned about the SJU game--as III was badly outcoached and allowed SJU to control tempo, abuse mismatches, and never adjusted how he defended them.

The question is what will JT3 do? Will he really adjust the defense to stop SJU or will he have a similar gameplan as last time and count on a better shooting percentage from Austin et al. because it was a one-possession game?

I believe we can beat St. John's at home which is all the players should be focused on.

I believe we can beat St. John's at home which is all the players should be focused on. I disagree. I think that the players should be looking ahead to Nova and maybe think about what other games after Nova they might be able to win.

I'm more concerned about the SJU game--as III was badly outcoached and allowed SJU to control tempo, abuse mismatches, and never adjusted how he defended them. Thats actually not true. He did switch into a match-up zone in the second half that was effective but switched back to the man to man that they were getting abused in. So he did adjust, he just went back to the ineffective defense at the end. In hindsight a bad decision, but since no one actually knew how to play that defense both decisions were risky.

Isn't the real issue the fact this team cannot play man to man defense due to communication issues and poor perimeter defenders? If that is the case, whether it is SJU or someone else, the defense will always be the key question for any game. My guess is JT3 will try several defenses in each game to see what works best since he simply cannot default to man to man with this team. With 8 days, I would not be surprised to see some new wrinkles in a match-up zone or some other zone look and hopefully perhaps a new pressing style to use in specific spots in a game.

I beleive we can beat Syracuse at home on senior day. We WILL beat them at home. Period. If you think CW, AF and JV are losing to our archrivals on Senior Day, you are sorely mistaken.

I think every game on the schedule is winnable....of course we won't win all of them, but there isn't anyone on the schedule that we CAN'T beat....
Im going to need people to stop thinking we're Savannah State or something....We still have one of the best backcourts in the country....and while we have problems fundamentally with our team, guess what? There isn't a perfect team in this league.....Pitt is close to perfect, but they aren't on our schedule anymore. Of the teams on our schedule, we just have to find a way to impose on them what WE DO WELL. Make them adjust to us. We've lost games because the other teams made us adjust to what they do.
Flip that around and we have the chance to be much more successful than people around this board are giving us a chance to be. Makes me mad when I see posters saying stuff like "let's scrape our way into the NCAA tournament"....We're a better team than that

11-7 seems doable if you squint. Not sure I see more than 11 as a realistic possibility though. I'd take 11-7 and run right now

Even the most uninspired group III has had (09 team) won at Nova in the lone matchup. That game will be up for grabs and is winnable. That was the Scottie "Hoya" Reynolds era (6 wins for GU & 2 wins for Nova). This is a new chapter. I don't want the team to think ahead. Take care of SJU.

There are definitely times where we get beat badly in man to man, but I am more concerned with our switching and match up zone than anything else. At least in man to man you tip your cap to the faster and bigger guy and you go from there. I dont think teams are scoring on us profusely because of man to man, I think they are scoring on us because we are undersized and III therefore is afraid to play man to man too much. I think that is what he was getting at when he said that we need to just spend the next week playing 1 on 1 defense. Perhaps, man to man isnt the worst option after seeing what we've been doing lately...

Game will come down to who can best exploit the mismatches they have the potential to create. If SJU decides to go big, guys like JC and AF have to really make SJU pay by either knocking down perimeter shots when the SJU big covering them can't recover quick enough or by penetrating by the slower player to find a shot for themselves or someone else. If they do this successfully, SJU will be forced to bring in a smaller quicker guy in order to compensate for this mismatch.
Conversely, if guys like JC and AF are not taking advantage of this mismatch, we are going to get killed on the boards again, and those extra possessions are going to cost us. JTIII has to then make that adjustment, put in Lubick and move Hollis to the 3 so that we can get some additional muscle on the boards. If he is stubborn and plays a guy like JC 35 minutes even though he can't hit anything outside of 5 feet, SJU is going to beat us again.
As for the defensive strategy: we are not a great defensive team, that's no secret. But that further illustrates the absolute importance of getting back in transition after a turnover or missed shot. We cannot let SJU get easy uncontested baskets in transition like we did against SHU.

Anyone see any updates on the johnnies injuries last night? Hardy was apparently not serious-game was out of hand, so no need to risk him-http://es.pn/fBH6Lj Then again, NY Post calls it a high ankle sprain, so guess we should keep an eye on how he plays v. Cincy. Who else on their team got hurt? Can't find a reference.

I'm expecting a big, controlled game by Chris. Revenge is in the air. Forget about Nova et al.
Everybody loves Chris!

Some more statistics (even though they don't relate specifically to the St. John's game).
I read an article today about a hot shooting Hofstra guard who has a 68% "true shooting percentage". I decided to figure out the stats for the Hoyas.
Over 50% is considered very good and over 60% is exceptional. The top 10 scorers in the country are at 68% or higher. Here’s how the Hoyas rank: Freeman 68 Wright 56 Clark 62 Vaughn 57 Thompson 63 Sanford 80 Sims 62
The team is at 61, one of the best in the country. Pretty interesting.
