hmmm. when's the last time you could go into work and punch a co-worker in the face, breaking their jaw, and still be working there a week later. Bill Romanowski?

It's actually by The Arrows - mid 70's glam schlock, rescued by Joan Jett.

especially the free throw line posterizing of Augustine I thought that was a walk - could be wrong (hence the need for video). Baseline move was scary, though. Anyone think Jeff could handle the move to the 3 spot next year? That'd allow Roy, Jeff & Vernon to play together.

BTW--this is exactly type of game a kid like Ray Reed's quickness helps in--I'm not saying he's a great player, but he would've been able to run with Brown enough to challenge him a bit and that's why role players are needed on teams--we need a defensive stopper and more speed in backcourt--but we're at a stage where hopefully the program can recruit a player who can run like Reed and produce more offensively. Sapp may develop into this. Remember, Ray looked lost on defense for 1.5 years, then the light turned on.

Not panicked at all, actually. We came in right about the Vegas line (+9?).

Needed to make some 3s in the 1st half - team lost confidence. JTIII straightened 'em out in the lockerroom ("Feed Jeff the ball"). Coulda been a ballgame if DJ make that 3 with 2:20 left, down 8. Illini made almost all there FTs down the stretch. Our defense looks legit, just need to avoid those 8 minutes scoreless droughts.

Is Dickie V doing the game on thursday? That's the word on the Illini board.

Since Jeff has 3 roommates on the team, I figure he had 4 votes (including himself) walking in the door on election day. Not hard to see him sneaking past a split upper-class ticket to 2nd place.
Or, I may have watched too much Shields/Brooks the last few weeks,

He took one shot from the foul line because they were leaving him wide open. When he starts making that 15-17 footer from the foul line - elbow, things will really start to open up for the cutters.

Yeah, but SU was up 20 at the half! Is the box score even correct? This is a Dale Brown-sized collapse!

Not only does he write a good story, he also tells us that DJ's return was dependent on two transfers, and that Wallace is on scholarship now . . . This would mean, as per the recruiting/scholarship thread, that we're out of schollies through 2007, excluding transfers and early departures. At this point, I can't see Jeff or Roy leaving after this season.

This is sliding into BCS territory, and it sounds like the rationalists are preaching to each other.
I don't know the history of the RPI, but I'd be curious if the best Sagarin/Pomeroy/RPI teams left out of the NCAA tournament are the ones making the NIT final four each year. Would seem to be a crude means to evaluate the various metrics (I know, there's the whole issue of let-down for bubble teams).
Normally, this is where SFHoya99 steps in to do the heavy lifting.

That said, the stat stinks. Why? Because is does not measure anything valuable. Actually, it measures the most important stat: wins. The problem is that using past wins to predict future wins is less reliable than using 2nd order stats (runs in baseball, points in basketball) or 3rd order stats (OBP, SLG, etc. in baseball, Off./Def. Efficieny in basketball).

You don't need a statistical "tool" to accurately evaluate 300 or even 3,000 teams. What you need is an educated and sufficient staff to evaluate every team that merits NCAA consideration. I feel a lot more comfortable with that than the current system, which puts way too much emphasis on whether you beat an RPI 150 team or an RPI 250 team, which is a pretty meaningless difference. Yes, let's remove all objectivity from the system. You know, you put enough moneys in a room with enough typewriters, you'll do pretty good, too. Look, we haven't beaten a good (I don't believe in Ernie Kent or the Ducks) team yet this season, so why should we expect to be considered the 28th best team in the nation? The RPI system moved us closer towards our true ranking, as per our performance so far this season. If/when we beat someone good, we'll move up.

PLAYER EVALUATIONS: [snip] What interested me about Marc was that he seems to be a sort of space mover guy--some bulk for the interior. Seemed odd seeing him at the perimeter and the wing on offense. Perhaps wishful-thinking, but from what I saw from Marc's limited minutes, I think he can develop into our best rebounder since Sweetney. He seems to have the fire in his belly, to use a hackneyed expression.
