For as little time as he's getting this year, I'd expect him to move solidly into the rotation next, since we're losing 3 of our 6 outside threats, and a lot of guard minutes.

Fairfield went 15-15 last year, had RPI's of 122 & 178 the last 2 years. In the pre-season, they looked like a the kind of cupcake game we should be playing. Unfortunately, they've gone the way of Oregon this year.

How about 2 divisions, Div I football vs. non? DFW's worst nightmare!
GU, SJU, SHU, PC, Marq, ND, DePaul, 'Nova(?) Cuse, UCon, Rutgers, Pitt, WVU, L'ville, Cinci, USF
I'm guessing Nova has Div I-AA - could be wrong.
Top from each conference, plus next 2 best records get a bye, last from each conference plus next 2 worse records stay home.

The Hoyas will begin their fall with W.VA and continue witth U. Conn., Duke and so on. They will lose the next 5 out of 6. Any takers? Hey Swifty, I thought you promised to drink the Kool-aid if we beat UTEP: After reading several of the posts here, have to admit that there is a great deal of support that the Hoyas will have a fine season in and out of the Big East. OK, I'll go with that but only after the outcome of tonight's game. However, I am very skeptical. Get back in yer hole, ye troll!

Any econometricians in the house? Sagarin's model says that we win. GU has a better Sagarin rating (35 vs. 47) and a better "Predictor" ranking (37 vs. 52). The regression model says that we win. Pomeroy has us as a 5 pt. underdog.

Anyone have an opinion on the best school that's never won a championship? These are the schools where you just figure they must have won one at some point. To make it simple, let's limit it to the modern era NCAA championship (from the UCLA dynasty, forward). This limits the grey area regarding NIT champs. I bring this up because I'd think St. John's would be a contender (early 80's teams especially). Others off of the top of my head: Illinois ('89, '05 teams) Georgia Tech (Price/Scott/Marbury/etc.) Virginia (Sampson era) Oklahoma Cincinnati (won 2 pre-UCLA) Here's a link to the champs list <-click the words before the arrow (Edited to help pr)

For those to lazy to hunt for it, the link for the ESPN Full Court video feed is: espnch.feedroom.com/Doesn't seem compatible with Firefox, so you'll need to use MS Internet Explorer.

Although he wasn't kicked off the team until after the bowl game, despite having been caught speeding and driving with a suspended license two weeks prior (VT had stated publicly in January 2005 that any future problems would result in automatic dismissal from the team). I'd say Marcus Vick and VT were appropriate bedfellows. Link to ESPN.com article

While I'm perfectly content with JTIII's current philosophy, I suspect things are going to get a whole lot more interesting when Mr. Freeman arrives.

I like how we're starting to get somewhat of a rep as a defensive team. From what I've seen, we've played well defensively in everyone of our games, except for Vandy in the 2nd half and the problem w/ offensive boards against Illinois. We had trouble w/ offensive rebounds against Illinois because the refs didn't call over the back, and their bigs were much more aggressive. Several times, Augustine or another UofI player simply climbed the back of a Hoya to get a tip/board. No knock on the Illini - if that's how the game is being called, that's how you've got to play. Regarding our defensive rep, I think this is a result of the slower pace we play, rather than actual Tenacious D (tm). Pomeroy rates our defensive efficiency 111th (adjusted) this year, 70th last year, 37th in 2004. Our offensive efficiency is much better under JTIII (43, 35, 217 for '06, '05, '04, respectively). I think our adjusted ratings this year are a being dragged a bit by the cupcakes, which account for a greater percentage of our schedule (as compared to the full slates of '04-'05).

It's certainly more important due to the Oregon free-fall.

My standard rejoinder to this that we would better served playing local cupcakes (Hispanic Fund Classic requirements excluded).
The advantages of playing Howard, Geroge Mason, Loyola, American, etc. include better turnout at MCI, better coverage in the local media, and better motivation for our local kids, playing for bragging rights.

At least 3 of the transfers played through their senior years at their new schools:
Shamel Jones - Memphis Shernard Long - Georgia State Willie Taylor - VCU
Of course, it doesn't mean they were in good standing when they left.
How do we look for the next few years? With (by my count) Hunter, Scruggs, Wilson, Sweetney, Thomas, Bethel, Hall, Causey, Reed and Guibunda all leaving, seems like we're heading down in the rankings

And he's doing a bad job now? This was one bad game. Remember that we only had thirteen points in a the first half last week. So goes the Princeton offense-- for better or for worse. Actually, Princeton has been awful since Scott took over for JTIII. Just look at their record last year and this year. It really doesn't make much sense to me, since I thought Scott was every bit as good a coach as JTIII.

The strange thing is that Joe Scott did a great job with Air Force.
