Updated with JMU info. Note: not only have we topped the top 100 in RPI but we now have two wins against top 100 RPI teams on the road! Again, I realize this stats are meaningless, but its way easier to keep a running tally than to figure it all out at the end. Nerd. Sports nerd that is. www.fantasyfootballadvisor.com/article_nerds.asp

That is kinda funny, the editor of a fantasy football website calling an NFL QB a nerd.
Peyton may not be Willie Gault (Smooth as a Chocolate Swirl) but I'm willing to bet that in any category he'd have that author beat...

Big win on Monday night for JMU, beating Appalachian State in 2OT. If they can pull off another win against Northeastern this Saturday, things will definitely be looking good for the Dukes in terms of building a winning season (and helping our RPI in the process).

You are FAST. Nice quote from Georgie Best by the way. I like another one of his: "I used to go missing a lot...Miss Canada, Miss United Kingdom, Miss World..."

Is it better for our RPI for a team we beat to defeat a team that beat us, or vice versa?
Aka, if we lose to Illinois, do we want them to beat Oregon, or Oregon to beat Illinois?

I've actually been wondering the same thing lately. I'm not sure, but I would guess that a win over a good team impacts the RPI positively MORE than a loss to a bad team negatively impacts the RPI. That is, if we lose to the Illini as in your scenario, we should root for Oregon, bc a quality road win against them gives more boost than a loss on the road to Illinois would drop us. But that's pretty much just a guess by me, based on my perception from listening to RPI talk over the last year.

My impression is that it's always better for the teams that we beat (and lose to, for that matter) to win their other games regardless of opponent. After all, no matter who wins, either Oregon or Illinois WILL lose, so the cumulative effect on our opponents' record is one win and one loss either way.
Now, I know there's a component factoring in whether the game was at home or on the road; I believe a road win is worth 1.25 wins while a home loss is worth 1.25 losses. So, if the road team wins, it adds 1.25 wins AND 1.25 losses to our opponents' record, and if the home team wins, it's the 1 and 1 I mentioned above.
Okay I don't know where I was going with that, but I think the point is that it doesn't matter. Unless I'm wrong, in which case it does matter. I will now bang my face on the wall until I forget I even tried to figure this out.

Road wins count as 1.4 wins. Home losses count as 1.4 losses too. Our "Adjusted RPI Record" is now 4.2 and 1.4.
Home wins count as .6 and road losses only .6.
RPI is tough right now, but these road wins REALLY make a difference at the end of the year.
Now we root like crazy for Oregon and Vandy! Play well men...we need you.

That away win actually dropped our RPI from 28 to 33. Go figure.

Still a bit early to be worrying about RPI, but putting to rest questions about whether or not we can win on the road for the moment is a very encouraging sign.

Let's hope Vandy wins the SEC.
Great work Bridge, keep it up.

I didn't want to start a new thread, so I am asking here. When do the new rankings come out each week? On ESPN.com now they have "Week 4" rankings. Were those updated today, or do they come out tomorrow?

They have not been updated. The rankings have Nova at 2-0, but they won 2 more games this week, so they are 4-0.

New rankings come out every Monday afternoon, I believe. I have to think we'll see at least a few votes in both polls this time.

The win (and the margin) at Oregon were huge for our Sagarin rating. We went from something like 77 before the game to 27 after it. Interestingly, Sagarin's Predictor says that we would play Illinois even on a neutral floor. Vanderbilt is up to 11 overall

I don't believe I've seen our RPI that high in the past few years.
