Once upon a time, when every game was not on TV and smartphones far less common, the HoyaChat function was a popular option for as many as 100 fans a game to follow the action and offer comments.
This season, the server that hosted the chat script went dark, but only one reader has written to ask if it's coming back.
With the Big East schedule imminent, is there interest in a real-time chat function? Thoughts welcome below, but vote in the poll, too.

The biggest issue for me was the trolls. Since there was no control on who could chat and what name they used, you always had a few of them. The ignore function helped though.
Also, a more mobile friendly chat client would be nice.

For me it was useful only when I had no other way to watch or hear the game. That will not be the case the rest of the year.

I like the idea of real-time comments and banter among fans without cluttering up the board or Twitter.

Honestly, I think Casual Hoya fills the role of real-time chat during the game.
But I'd still check in if it came back.

I'll echo CO here. I usually turn to the Casual in-game threads. I did use HoyaChat for non-TV games in the past though.

I like the idea of real-time comments and banter among fans without cluttering up the board or Twitter. I've never considered the in-game discussion thread to be cluttered. It's kind of the point of the in-game discussion thread. Without ever having experienced "HoyaChat" firsthand however, I have the impression that Casual's gamechat is fulfilling the same requirement for most of this community.

As noted above, the trolls were a real drag on the Hoyachat experience. I thought Hoya chat was great for those times when I was out of the country during the season. If it comes back, I would like to see a different client. My office blocked the old one, a big problem during the Big East Tournament.

It's where everybody knows your name, so it was comforting to discuss/follow (as it was in my case) the game with like minded Hoyas.

I didn't/wouldn't use it all the time, but it was and would still be a fun place to visit during games. Entirely different (and whole let better, in my opinion) experience compared with "in game updates".

I'd check it out. Seems that a chat client that would require people to make an account a week or two in advance would keep out unwanted visits from big east trolls.

Hoyachat 1.0 had definitely jumped the shark but would certainly be interested in a new version.

If there is a new chat room, please continue the practice of making the word "Syracuse" (and various permutations thereof) a violation and unacceptable.

For me it was useful only when I had no other way to watch or hear the game. That will not be the case the rest of the year. +1. I clicked on the Hoyachat link once in August while pining for the return of Hoya hoops, and was surprised to find another Hoyatalk poster logged in. We quickly exited without speaking to each other, embarrassed that we had revealed the depths of our addiction.

People seem to be interessted if there is a reliable and secure chat client. Will see what we can find. I'd rather not go toward the Google Chat but we'll see.

From a couple of seasons ago, but I always enjoyed this function...any chance of bringing it back?

If we do get another chat, can we get on that
A) isn't rejected by the most basic of firewalls and B) doesn't allow anonymity?

Anyone have some suggestions that would serve those needs above?
