So....when I opened it up my first reaction was "wow, what a great idea." I have always thought about hanging a "G" flag from my front porch for big games but never actually did anything to make that happen. The fact that Georgetown was enabling that for me was really cool. Then I saw the "season ticket holder" line and the PNC Bank branding and realized that nope, I could not possibly hang that out front without looking like a d-bag. The fact that there was no way to actually fly the flag just made me laugh.
Such a great idea so poorly executed. I threw it out.

Rest asssured, it really happened. I was the one who reported it to Hoyatalk and I consider that my crowning contribution over 15? years of being part of this little community.
WG girl, a friend and two tools were sitting right behind me in row F in section 110. She was hot and stupid, but was willing to engage in a back and forth with the student section so I give her a little credit. It was a fun night. And yes, "WG" was painted on her cheek in big, bold navy blue and yellow. It was awesome.

Here's what I love about what JTIII is doing with Hopkins. Clearly Sims had a ton of talent, and we all thought it didn't "click" until he got serious about hoops. But it's also possible he didn't have enough time against quality competition to work through it. Coach seems like he has learned from that and is giving Hopkins the time to figure out his role and make some mistakes - without damaging the team. Now maybe he has no choice this year without more depth at the 5, but he went with Vaughn over Sims and you could make the argument that that might not have been the best choice (knowing what we know now). Hop might never be Sims...I get that they are different players, different sizes...but he is getting a chance to live up to his potential AND clearly improving.

That was an absurd final sequence. Agree that it likely would have made no difference. But when you pump fake a free throw you lose possession. Plain and simple rule to enforce. At least the Hoyas could have gotten a final shot off. And you can't have it both ways....you blow the whistle for a dead ball because you think the ball didn't hit the rim and the play stops. Ref's mistake. But you still have a second on the clock. Disappointing end to an entertaining second half. Of course if Whit or Trawick hit their shots it doesn't matter. Oh well. Marquette is good. And we have zero depth. Will need to thread the needle all year. Someone else has to be able to score for this team to succeed.

Ha. Yes I most definitely would. But the early exits from the NCAAs and the dwindling marquee home games of late are getting old.

I renewed because I am a glutton for punishment. I gave up being upset about price increases years ago, because my seats have more than doubled in price (along with the donation) since I first got them a decade ago.
My nit is that as of this year Ticketmaster/Georgetown won't take Amex anymore. Can't blame them since Amex charges more than Visa/Mastercard, but it's kind of cheap for those of us who like to collect (and use!) the points for big purchases.

Not that I want to distract from the start of the tournament tomorrow, but is there any chatter about the accelerated season ticket renewal process this year?
The communications from the ticket office acknowledges that the process "traditionally begins in May or June" and while that may be the case, haven't we been able to put down a $100 deposit in June to hold our seats, with the balance due in September or October?
I don't see that as an option this year....am I misremembering or am I missing something in the fine print because it appears they want the balance now in April or some sort of payment plan.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks!

Burrito streak continues. I will need to retire my son's Jason Clark jersey after this season. It is approaching legendary status.

These are the threads that keep me coming back to Hoyatalk.
My son informed me tonight that he would not attend the game and seek a burrito because the delivery is painfully slow and stifling. He also said the wrapper is too flimsy and dull. He has decided instead to seek burritos from Kentucky and Indiana.

My son has a 5 game burrito streak going. He wears his Jason Clark jersey, sits on the end in section 110, and they give him a burrito. It's gotten to the point where he's already informed me that he doesn't need lunch before the game. Cause he's going to have a burrito.

Time to go independent. Continuing to dance with the football schools delays the inevitable. We are a strong brand and can have one heck of a high-RPI schedule every year and get ourselves on TV a lot. Screw the automatic bids. We play all comers, establish a new set of rivalries, build new facilities, make a commitment to send kids to the NBA every year....and dare the NCAA to keep us out. Be bold Georgetown.

I don't buy it - unless this is a desperate attempt by UCLA and UF to have the last word (e.g., like Crean did with Moses they are flying in at the last minute to show him some love). KA's family seems to have managed his recruitment tightly and with a decent amount of respect both for the process and for the schools involved. It just doesn't fit that they would waste the time and money of 2/3 schools no longer in the running by making them do an in-home song and dance....nor does it fit that on 9/19 they are still undecided and need these schools to make their final offer. This smacks of desperation to me (although I know this isn't uncommon in this day and age).
I don't have any confidence that KA will choose GU, but I don't believe anyone outside of his immediate family have a clue as to what's actually going on.

Or maybe the simply committee decided that the CAA is no longer a mid-major conference. One could argue that it is now on par with the ACC.

No, unfortunately, it won't, because over the past couple of weeks we've learned: - JTIII can't recruit talent - JTIII can't develop talent - Georgetown doesn't get good athletes - Georgetown's system is too easy to recruit against and no good player wants to be limited by it We are destined to return to Esherickian mediocrity and doomed to mid-major status.

Really? Wow people really do think that the sky is falling. While I agree that we have had a few high profile recruiting misses, it's not the end of the world. I think if there's a bone to pick it's that we haven't had a legit 5 star recruit since Monroe (with Summers and Freeman as the only other 5 stars we've had this decade). I love the fact that we're in the mix for some of these 5 star guys, however. But lets not act as if we've been a 5 star recruit factory here at Georgetown - far from it.
Not that I put a ton of stock in recruiting rankings, but Scout has our 2010 class at #25, 2008 at #8, 2007 at #14. 2011 will probably come in somewhere around the top 25 (at least in terms of Scout's rankings). I guess one could argue that we've slipped, but it's hardly like the sky is falling so far that we can't compete in the top 25.
Just looking at our 4+ star recruits (using Scout rankings) the average "position" ranking and "national" ranking of our guys has been:
2006 - 10 / 30 (Macklin and Summers) 2007 - 6 / 35 (Freeman and Wright) 2008 - 8 / 40 (Clark, Monroe and Sims) 2009 - 12 / 63 (only Thompson...the real recruiting problem IMHO - we needed more this year) 2010 - 15 / 77 (Abraham, Lubick, Starks) 2011 - 9 / 67 (Adams and Hopkins - Whittington not a 4 star) 2012 - 14 / 81 (Bolden...so far)
Is there a slight downward trend, yes, but it's not like we're slipping into mid-major territory here. So color me the glass is half empty. I look at next year's team a lot like the way I saw this one at the beginning. Where we knew we had (what we thought was) a great back court but a lot of question marks in terms of depth and bigs, I thought that we could compete and make a run for the Sweet Sixteen. Until the last few weeks this season exceeded my expectations. Next year a I think we have more depth, height and length - and maybe even more athleticism. I expect some growing pains and maybe some maturity issues, but I still think the NCAA tournament is totally within reach.
Georgetown is simply not going to start sucking because Wright and Freeman are gone and JTIII didn't suddenly forget how to coach. I also don't think the rest of the world suddenly figured us out. We didn't have a legit center and we played with a freshman at the 4. We had guards who were average defenders at best. We lost our point guard for a month at a critical time. While we may not have that "legit" center next year, and there are question marks at several positions, we will have greater balance and possibly more athleticism. Let's see how we do with another year of experience and some new blood.

Vucevic looks like his feet are stone. He's a beast to be sure, but he's slow. I know they try to dictate tempo and like to play at a slow pace (short bench, right?) but couldn't we just run them ragged (assuming Chris is 80% or better). I'm with dense...bring on USC. That said, I think we are diverse enough to take either of them (again, assuming Chris really can play at a high level). Even without Chris I think we could compete with either.
