Matchups. Does this lessen the intensity of your disgust? Of your frustration with JTIII (count me out of that), Did we just not match up well with VCU? NO ONE could seem to keep up with the speed on GU. That being said, how do your biggest stars go, what 6 for 20? during a tournament game as seniors? It's just tough...

What it means is that Purdue is who I thought they were. Unfortunately the Hoyas weren't who I thought they were. At least not down the stretch again.
Somebody asked Thompson if it made him feel better that Uconn went on to win the BET after beating his Hoyas. He quickly responded that it did not.
I assume that also applies here.

Feel a little better, but not much.
What it proves to me is that VCU is a good team. Let's see how they do vs. Florida State.

They have a chance to beat FL State, but FL State is very good defensively as well...

I think it proves what others have pointed out. VCU is a bad matchup for teams that arent quick, and both Gtown and Purdue fit that bill. VCU-FSU is a very tough game to call.
If you want to feel better about our failure, look to ND and Pitt. Those teams choked far worse than we did. We were just a 6 seed that by most accounts, were playing worst than 100 teams in the country by the end of the season.

By the end of the year, we sucked so bad that by comparison, our dismal display in the Tournament wasn't that big a deal! I get what you're saying, and I don't even really disagree. It's just sad that our pick-me-up has to be in the form of realizing that our expectations were probably too high. It would be nice to meet expectations one of these years...

VCU really is better than we thought they were. The Hoyas were not as good as we hoped they were.

The HOYAS have moved from the ESPN advertised elite program class to just another competitive school, like 50 others.

The HOYAS have moved from the ESPN advertised elite program class to just another competitive school, like 50 others. And that has what to do with Purdue losing to VCU? Nothing. Keep this in an appropriate thread please. I'd love to see a VCU-Kansas matchup. It is pretty dang close to Mason-UCONN 2006 in terms of the pre-tournament perceived disparity between the teams/conferences. UCONN had 6 NBA draftees on that team, if I remember correctly, and somehow Mason pulled it off.

It means Purdue scored fewer points than VCU. Sadly, so did we.... by A LOT.

The HOYAS have moved from the ESPN advertised elite program class to just another competitive school, like 50 others. There are what, maybe half a dozen "elite" programs? Duke, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky, maybe Ohio State, MAYBE Pitt(although NCAA results would suggest otherwise). Is it really such a catastrophe that we are with a bunch of others (far fewer than 50) somewhere below that? Yes, we all aspire to get up to the level where we are national contenders 4 out of 5 years, but it ain't that easy. We have alot of work to do, like the many others. I believe we have started in the right direction.

VCU is a bad matchup for teams that dont have bangers down low. ODU isnt very quick but they handle VCU 2 out of 3 gms easily. There only loss was the 1st gm and I believe ODU was just over confident. If you look at who VCU played in the tourney thus far you will see that the only team that made a real gm of it was USC. Why? Because USC fed the ball down low to there two bigs. You can make a argument that USC was the worst of the three teams VCU has faced. If GTown would have forced the ball down low to JV and NL more the game would have been much better. Instead we tried to out shoot them and got ran out the gym. A team with one big that goes about 6'7". I blame JT3 for not being flexible. FSU plays great D, as does ODU, so the game will not get out of hand either way. But I dont expect VCU to lose until they meet the Morris twins.............

5 years from now VCU will be remembered more for killing the #3 seed as oppossed to the #6...so i guess it helps out a little in the future. I also hope their run continues.
As for now, I have not been able to wear my mets hat and hoya jersey while strolling my sign around the park.

Enough with the enshrinement of VCU. They lost 11 games this year, finishing 4th in the CAA, barely making the NCAA. Then they beat another team which barely made the tournament, a team playing it's worst basketball of the season coming off 5 losses, and admittedly a good Purdue team (but who also wasn't playing their best and missing a key player). So yes VCU is on a little win streak, and good for them, but they showed who they were all season - not the past week.

They are a high energy team, they are on the high energy stage and stepping up. They have a smart Coach and athletic players who love the big stage and are playing energetic and with a chip on their shoulder. It will be interesting to see if they can keep the energy they have had both on and off the court through into next weekend.

They were missing their 3 pt assassin, Rozzelll for a good portion of their losing streak. Am I Wright.

After hearing Chaka Smart's speech about how they did something no other VCU team did in history and proved all those people wrong, I'm pretty sure their dance card is up.
