With 13 points against Providence, LJ has 968 career points. Peak's career high is 31, at Villanova last year, so he could get to 1000 against Xavier, though I'd expect him to need one more game.

This is as bad as it has ever been at Georgetown. And that's not hyperbole. It's not an acceptable defense to cling to "We could be DePaul." And, newsflash: We're getting there - fast. It wasn't a defense. I was just saying it could easily be worse than it's been - and that's true if JT3 is the coach or someone else. Yes, things are down but we have a long way until we are at DePaul's level. We made the NCAA tournament two seasons ago. When is the last time DePaul made it? Like I said this isn't a defense. Obviously the comparison for the program shouldn't be DePaul but until we've been awful under multiple coaches for a decade and not even sniffing the NCAA tournament, don't tell me it can't be worse. And Esherick made the NCAA tournament once ever. His record was not horrible because he didn't schedule hard OOC games but his last two seasons were awful. Esherick's last three teams finished #35 (2002), #36 (2003) and #125 (2004) in KenPom. JT3's last three teams (counting this year) are #22 (2015), #66 (2016) and #62 (2017). The Hoyas were #57 in 2014. Esherick went 29-35 in the Big East in his last four years (.453 winning percentage). JT3 is 28-32 in the Big East in the last four years, counting this year (.467 winning percentage). They haven't bottomed out as bad as Esherick's last year, but I think it's hard to say these four years are appreciably better than Esherick's last four years.

The good Professor walked right into that one... On a separate note, how much credit does III get for working in the hardest conference in college hoops? Everyone grumbles that he doesn't do this or doesn't do that and I don't want to discuss the merits of any individual argument. I am just wondering if all the arm-chair, Monday morning quarterbacks are grading on an appropriate curve based on the BEast being the toughest conference to win in the country. Between playing home and home with everyone (familiarity, experience etc), consistently have 8-10 Top 25 games in conference, a conference with rabid fan bases and some scary home court advantages (which we can't maintain) and all other factors, is a poor performance or two in the BEast as disappointing as a poor performance in some schlub conference like the ACC or B1G? Well, maybe if the Hoyas were only struggling in conference. It really doesn't explain the bad losses to the Radfords and Arkansas States of the world.

I want a powerhouse, national championship contender. If the University continues to build it's instutional support for the program, I don't see why we won't get it. JT3 is definately a good enough coach to create a national contender ala Coach K and Calhoun. Ha ha ha. I hope this was sarcastic The comment was made in 2005. JT3 won a BET, made a Final Four and won 3 Big East regular season titles. We were a national title / Final Four contender through 2013. Thanks for dredging up this post though and acting like it was stupid to make. Thanks. Great use of your time.

Okay I waited almost 24 hours... We can't win this game or any of our games (including DePaul) without a real point guard. This league is too tough. And by a real point guard I don't mean one who can shoot, dribble penetrate, pass, and play defense. I mean someone who can LEAD this team. Someone who can calm us down when things get crazy and who the players can look to in the last 5 minutes. And most important someone who can make all his teammates look better. Seriously folks, ask yourself, who on this team can do that? The MD game was a warning. And our last 3 games have been the sad result. I can't recall when we have have a team with such lightweight PG's. Say what you will about Wright and Starks and DSR but at least you knew they were the guys in charge on the floor. In almost every one of our games this year, over the last 7-8 minutes, I get this sinking feeling that somehow we will lose. I don't see the guy who will step up and carry us the rest of the way. And sadly, since I don't think a freshman recruit will be able to fill this role I see our problems lasting at least 2-3 more years. We let the 141st best offense in the country score 1.13 points per possession on us. Xavier and Marquetee are much better offenses, but they still scored more than 1.1 points per possession on us. We've played atrocious defense in conference. A point guard isn't going to fix that.

Providence was ranked 293rd in offensive rebounding coming into tonight. Prior to tonight, they had only rebounded 25% of their misses. They rebounded more than 40% of their misses today, and half of their missed field goal attempts. That's a pathetic effort on the boards.

We couldn't stop Marquette or Xavier. Not sure what Copeland would have done about that, except maybe make it worse. I'm with MCI--I wish Paul White had stayed

Hopefully Xavier comes in over confident with their blow out of Providence. Thought we did a much better job on the boards besides the Fischer tip outs a couple of which were over the back, but we held them to 28.6% offensive rebounding compared to our normal 35.1% so definitely an improvement. That will be the key against xavier. Box out and rebound and I think we can get this win at home. Marquette is one of the worst offensive rebounding team in the country (thankfully, Butler, Creighton and Providence are worse). Xavier is the best in the Big East. Let's hope we can be as successful at rebounding on Saturday.

Thank Peak and Pryor for this. They flat out get to the rim. The fact that our bigs are excellent shooters too definitely helps. Free throws could be the difference maker come big east play. side note: does grosse want us to start calling them the P+P Buckets Factory? I like it but it doesn't roll off the tongue very well. Govan and Agau also draw a ton of fouls. KenPom has both of them drawing more fouls per 40 minutes than Pryor (Pryor obviously draws more in a game, since he plays more). Are they better at drawing fouls than Patrick Ewing was? I had not yet turned two when Ewing graduated, so I couldn't say.

Marquette is one of the worst offensive rebounding teams we face this year. They're 260th in the nation in offensive rebounding percentage. There is no excuse for the Hoyas to allow them to get a lot of offensive rebounds.

Props to Mulmore, Campbell, Mosely, Peak, etc who made breaking the press look routine tonight. They've clearly been practicing. You wouldn't have guessed it based on how easily the Hoyas handled the press, but UNCG's defense is top 25 in the nation in turnover percentage, ahead of teams like Louisville and VCU. That was a fantastic job by the Hoya guards.

In fact, I am telling you that perception isn't reflective of reality as expressed by "adjusted efficiency". As Tbird pointed out, since our pace of play is so much better, even though we might not be scoring as frequently on each possession we are not spending as much time on each not scoring possession. I'll take a 7 minute stretch where we get up 15 shots, half of them being good shots that just didn't drop, as opposed to getting up only 8 shots in those 7 minutes, none of which are good shots, and not scoring. I know this sounds confused but anyone who watched us trying to score the last two years knows what I mean. In fact, everyone on this board has been screaming for us to increase our speed of play. Was I the only one the last few years screaming at DSR or any of our guards to "Speed it Up Godammit!!" I am not sure if the advanced statistics agree with me or not, but it certainly seems like they are a much more efficient offensive team than they were last year when they would have way too many bad shots at the end of the shot clock. They still have a few in each game but not nearly as many. They just seem to attack earlier in the shot clock. Well yes, they are more efficient than last year, but that's because they were a really bad offense last year (they're ranked 52nd this year, and 66th last year in offensive efficiency). However, they were more efficient in 2015 (29th in offensive efficiency), despite playing at a slower pace than last year. The two slowest teams JT3 has had were in 2006 and 2007. They also were the 10th and 2nd most efficient offense those years. The two fastest teams he's had were in 2010 and last year. 2010 had the 14th most efficient offense, last year had the 66th.

I think this is a game that will be hugely telling with regard to the rest of the season. If we lose, everyone on here gets REALLY negative, its a redux of last year, we can kiss NCAAs goodbye, and the team will have killed any momentum it has gained over the past 5 games. If we win, we have a solid 6 game winning streak going into conference play, we've vanquished our north carolina directional school demons, UNCG is actually not a BAD team, and the guys have a lot of confidence at 8-4 with a challenging first 5 game conference slate. In sum, tomorrow's game is big. Go Hoyas. Absolutely agree. A win here and a win at Marquette and line forms on the right for tickets to the NCAA final four. A loss here and a loss at Marquette and the line forms on the left for first off the cliff. Suckers. I already know where I'm staying for the Final Four.

Where did James Dickey come from? He's been a beast on the boards and at the rim. His offensive rebounding percentage is basically the same as DeJuan Blair's as a freshman. What is he doing on UNC-Greensboro?

Rutgers is 11-1, and ranked 117 on KenPom. They've lost to their only top 100 opponent (Miami). And one of their wins is against a Division II team. Against Division I, they've beat teams ranked: 245, 186, 265, 264, 323, 327, 340, 247, 295, and 212. So yeah, they probably aren't very good and will likely get slaughtered by the Big 10. That's downright Esherickian. The parallels to the 04-05 team are uncanny, except that Esherick led his team to a top 100 win against Rutgers to get to 10-0 before the bottom fell out completely.
