Games of Interest - December 19 through 26, 2016

Merry Christmas, everyone! Abbreviated college schedules this week, with no games scheduled over the holiday weekend. There is one tournament scheduled, the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic, in which DePaul and #23 Southern California are participating; as games are played, the tournament schedule will be updated below.

The top six schools in the Associated Press Top 25 remain unchanged, and while there was some shuffling of position of last week’s Top 25, there are no newly ranked schools. The Big East Conference still has four ranked schools, led by Villanova (which remains at #1). Creighton moved up one slot to #9, Butler jumped up five slots to #13, and Xavier remained at #17.

I think the NCAA should investigate the refs in that game to see how much extra money went into their accounts! Then again we know Duke's biggest rival North Carolina is dirty. Strangely, NC players didn't have to take real classes the year they won the NCAA tournament but Boeheim at Syracuse is the coach who has had seasons vacated!

Sorry brother, but that is absurd - GA goes by with his right side to the defender and the dude is standing still. For his left leg to hit the defender, it has to be GA swinging it out to create the contact - the D cannot reach out with his lower leg while standing on it watching. This is a horrific call, as the lateness of the whistle evidences. 5-8 is the way in Cameron, but this is worse than a phantom technical on a bench player...

Absurd? Absurd is not seeing that the TS player is moving to his left, not standing still. The guy's knee hits Allen's right foot. Do you at least see that?

I was looking at that Seton Hall v Rutgers game on Thurs when I noticed Rutgers is 11-1. One the weakest 11-1s in the history of major college bball. Best (and only top 200 KenPom) win is DePaul.

But they have no more pushovers on the schedule and went 1-17 in conference last year.

I would love for them to go 0-19 down the stretch. What an terrible university and, specifically, a terrible Athletic Department. (I have nothing against the student body.)

Allen swings his left foot into the guy - no other way of seeing it. If that is a foul, then there is no defense allowed any more.

Rutgers is 11-1, and ranked 117 on KenPom. They've lost to their only top 100 opponent (Miami). And one of their wins is against a Division II team. Against Division I, they've beat teams ranked: 245, 186, 265, 264, 323, 327, 340, 247, 295, and 212.

So yeah, they probably aren't very good and will likely get slaughtered by the Big 10.

The parallels to the 04-05 team are uncanny, except that Esherick led his team to a top 100 win against Rutgers to get to 10-0 before the bottom fell out completely.
