I'm happy for Harold Baines and for anyone that grew up idolizing the man. He was a heckuva player. But his stats, while very good, are not HOF worthy. They are stats of accumulation, not of dominance. He wasn't an MVP or ever one of the most feared players in his league. If he's in, Edgar Martinez should have been a lock years ago and Don Mattingly should be in too. I grew up a huge Mattingly fan. I don't think his numbers qualify him for the HOF either but Kirby Puckett (RIP) would tell me I'm an idiot as his are nearly identical. Granted, Puckett won a WS. But he was on good teams. Mattingly, largely, wasn't. Kirby is an iffy HOFer. He was also a lot better than Mattingly and Baines (and Mattingly was better than Baines). Their offensive stats might have been similar, but Kirby was hitting like the other guys while playing a premium defensive position. Kirby: 51 WAR in 12 years Mattingly: 42 WAR in 14 years Baines: 38 WAR in 22 years

If you can get ahold of a copy, I highly recommend reading Big Man on Campus by Leonard Shapiro, which is a biography of John Thompson Jr that was published in 1991. It does a good job of showing what he overcame and what he was able to accomplish. www.amazon.com/Big-Man-Campus-Thompson-Georgetown/dp/0805011250Also, I think one issue our alumni base has always had is that Georgetown basketball is not a culture people grow up in, and there isn’t any process set up to educate students and younger alums. It’s important not to jump on people asking about our history in good faith because there isn’t anywhere else for them to have learned it, and not only did they not necessarily grow up in a Georgetown family, they weren’t alive during JT2’s heyday. The Hoyas celebrating their fifth year reunion this year were born after JT2’s last BET title. Most of this year’s rising seniors had not been born when Allen Iverson was at Georgetown. How are they supposed to know about JT2? The national media?

If this is true, does it suck up a scholarship for next season? If it does, why are we doing it? From everything I read, the chances of him staying in school for another two years appears minimal. Let's say theoretically the 3.0 rule doesn't pass, or Yurtseven doesn't have a 3.0 : why wouldn't we want a ready-made replacement for Govan for 2019-2020, even if it means burning a scholarship next year? He was the 10th most efficient offensive player in the ACC this past year - that's someone we absolutely want. I think his thought process is a little weird, but I completely agree that it’d be great to have him, especially if he’s around in 2019-20 as an experienced replacement for Jesse / Marcus.

Why is he transferring from N.C. State? It seems like he had a relatively successful season there under Keats and sitting out a year is more likely to delay his ability to go pro a year than just playing another year for a pretty good coach. I see it as the perfect scenario for Coach Ewing and the current roster. Let's face facts, with the freshman class coming in, Morning returning from injury for his last season and Govan/Derrickson both returning, that would leave the cupboard bare in 19-20. A transfer BIG is the best situation, especially one as talented as Yurt7. I usually don't think taking transfers that are heading into their Junior year is a good idea because you could have them play 1 year before they graduate and can move on again but players as talented as Yurt7 is the exception to the rule. Worst case senario is he decides to go pro overseas after his sit out year and he never plays a game for Georgetown, you get the scholarship back for the 19-20 season and he hopefully pushed the Govan, Derrickson, Mourning and Carter in practice. Best case scenario is he stays and after Govan, Derrickson and Mourning graduate, you have an All BIG EAST caliber Big man who fits perfectly in Coach Ewing's offense stepping in with a year in the system under his belt. I see how it would benefit us. I don’t understand how it benefits him. He had success under Keatts and there’s no reason for him to transfer and sit out a year instead of playing this year and then going pro in 2019, which is not really an option if he sits out this season.

Interesting that Glide is on board with that guys way of thinking, since that tweet is from the same guy who tweeted this: Wonder what that says about what Glide actually thinks about McClung?

This would be a perfect post for the Pro and College Sports page. Or maybe even the Tremont Waters thread on the Recruiting page. Not sure what it has to do with discussion of the Georgetown Xavier game.🤔 Maybe I just felt like posting this here. You mad? I did mention "off the record." Seems to have gotten your attention and MCIGuy, LCPolo18 hahahahaha. The only thing better than the insightfulness of your posts is the sheer volume of them.

He’s currently on pace to join JWall and Austin Freeman as the only Hoyas in Rick Majerus’ 180 Shooter Club (adding up FG%, 3PT% and FT%)

What does it mean to say Agau is an "academic senior"? Either he's graduated or not. If he graduated, he can transfer without sitting. If not, he needs to sit. It doesn't seem all that complicated to me? Finals aren't until May, so we can say for sure that he has not graduated. Also, I don't think anything has been publicly said about whether he is on track to graduate this year. I may have missed that (or it may be one of those things people know but that hasn't been announced).

Apparently working on bringing in Shammond Williams, an assistant at Western Kentucky, who helped them get a McD AA and top 40 player in this year's recruiting class. Mitchell Robinson is a 6'11" 5-star Center. Josh Anderson is a 6'5" 4-star SF. Both out of Louisiana...he also may be the WKY recruiter on Zion Williamson. Turns out Williams is Mitchell Robinson's god father, which makes me think Williams could bring Robinson with him, like with Michael Porter

First key will be assistants. I don't mind if he keeps PEJr or Wallace (they have minor positions anyway) but I think Broadus and maybe Solomon need to be replaced. Next hit the trail hard. Lots of open spots to be filled. I hope we go after the cream of the crop that is left over. Swing for the fences. Finally, appease the fans. Many will be upset by this move since it is so close to the JTJr legacy. Personally, I think it's a legacy not worth burning. Either way, Pat needs to make it clear that this is HIS team. I'd like to see two big recruiters with DC area ties and one former head coach who can help with the running the program part of the job. Anyone know what PE's relationship is with Buzz Peterson? Zagoria reported that Ewing has Peterson reaching out to potential assistants for him. Just curious but would people feel differently if Ewing had landed the King's or the Grizzlies' head coach job last summer? Alternatively, if this was, say, JWall with the exact same resume as Patrick Ewing (ie 15 years as an NBA assistant, head of the NBAPA, etc.), would people feel differently? You'd still have the "program insider" problem, of course (which is a legitimate complaint), but how much of the other complaints are about his playing position and about the cultural perception of Ewing's intelligence? Ewing has always been seen and portrayed as the dumb lumbering big guy in our popular culture. How much of the concern about his coaching skills is based on that? It seems to me that Clifford wouldn't be keeping Ewing around as a favor, or because he's a big name.

I'm all for giving Pat a shot. But I think it's comical that some here confuse me of racism in the same breath as they are lumping in Zo, JYD and Dikembe with Patrick. To state the insanely obvious, all of us are absolutely unique. There's a lot more to the job that recruiting or Xs and Os, and some of those diplomacy and public speaking bits haven't been Patrick's forte historically. Can he learn to be patient and deal with that stuff? Probably. Can he lead a top-level program on all levels - from the relatively simple in-game hoops strategy to the far more complex - marketing, presentation, regime-sculpting (roster, staff and character sculpting)? Nobody knows. Is hiring him worth the risk given the alternatives? I would say absolutely, as long as we all acknowledge this qualifies as a ikely boom-bust hire. He was president of the NBA players union for five years, and managed to retain the position after the lock-out. Presumably he has some diplomacy skills.

No one should click on that. All you are doing by doing so is rewarding a Syracuse alum for trashing Georgetown.

I am going to convince myself that the search team is waiting for this Final Four weekend to do some real work. If we do not get any hot rumors by Monday, I will then enter panic mode. For now, I just assume all the work the search firm is doing will lead to many meetings during the weekend when most coaches are around. I still think our new HC will be someone none of us are expecting, a high major coach that is looking for something new/better - Danny Manning, Steve Prohm, etc. I like Manning as a candidate for Grown, he's definitely worth a look.. I think, at this point, the hire is going to be someone like Manning, where we poach a coach at a major program who was hired in the past 2-3 years, similar to what Illinois did with Brad Underwood.

I've got a good source (not affiliated with GU) that says that there is some degree of mutual interest with Mike White of Florida. Just made the Elite 8 Mike White? That'd certainly be interesting. Only two years into his time at Florida, but we could give him a raise from his current $2 million / year salary. Doesn't have any real DC ties, but with the right assistants, could obviously develop them, and he's really tied into the south, so he'd have a pretty solid recruiting base to draw from.

Meanwhile, Randy Bennett has won 25 games 9 times in those recruits lifetimes. He also got suspended for five games due to recruiting violations that landed his assistant a two year show-cause penalty.
