Looking forward to seeing more improvement from another week of practice.

The season is a long struggle. We are finally heading up instead of down. We need to keep that momentum and keep improving.
As always - hope to see the effort on defense and on the boards.

UNC-G shoots 40% on 3 pointers, albeit against lesser competition but need to guard it. Just the type of team if it gets hot can cause problems for our D.

Going to be an interesting match up.
They play very slowly average possession lengths on offense and defense are in the 300s.
They do several things well that are scary: Great offensive rebounding team: 30th, Great at forcing turnovers 7th, 13th in steals, good at shooting 3s. Kenpom has them at 36.5%
On the other hand: They turn the ball over like crazy 249th, Get the ball stolen like crazy 348th, do not draw fouls 329th, Can't make twos: 257th, and give up good shooting numbers to opponents: 212th in eFG%, 224th in 3pt% and 192nd in 2pt%.
They shoot a lot of 3s 39% of their points come from 3s which is the 28th highest %.
Seems like a game the press might be effective, but obviously getting burned by 3pts in transition is a concern.
Take care of the ball, box out, and guard the 3pt line and we should win. So yeah pretty much like every other game.

This is a pretty tricky game. Greensboro took Wake Forest to the wire, and I have quite a bit of respect for awake after watching most of their game with Xavier last night. Other than that, they haven't really played much of anyone.
Frankly, I think this game is far more about us than it is them. This game is as close to a trap game as you'll ever get--wedged after a huge road win right before Christmas and the start of league play. It's also a game we need to win after taking our hits early in the season.
Right now, I like our chances. The guys really seem dialed in to me right now. I expect they will go hard in practice and be ready to come out strong on Thursday.

I'd rather not replay most of the last year and a half, but Greensboro beat us last year, didn't they?

No. Asheville beat us..........still sad..........Man we are so close to having a really good record. If we had finished strong against MD there is no way we lose to Ark. St.........that's 9-2 and ranked pretty high......

Let's pretend they were the UNC satellite school that beat us and turn it into a revenge game anyway.

I really feel good about this game because I think it will show how far we've come from last year. This year (with exception of Ark State) we are eating the cupcakes for dessert and this game will be the icing on the cupcakes.

The usc upstate and coppin state wins were solid, but everything else was far from eating them for dessert.

This is a game the Hoyas should win, and last year seemed to find a way to lose. Come out with focus and intensity from the tip and it should be a 10+ point win. Stay away from the turnovers and limit them to just one shot on the boards and it should be a win and set the team up well to enter into conference play. As someone said, it is a trap game, but after last year it should be easy for JT3 to remind his players what they need to do to avoid a bad loss.

Yeah we looked shaky against Elon and Howard but we won whereas last year we probably lose one of those games. Sadly, the only way to overcome my PTS is to lose to an OOC mid major. Let's hope I am completely delusional heading into BE play.

First and only game I'll get to see in person this year. I'll be trying to hype up the 200 fans there so we at least have some sort of atmosphere.
Definite trap game but I trust LJ to keep his teammates focused on the win.

While it might be worth short try against UNC Greensboro, I think we really need to begin phasing out the press. I think the fact that JT3 has basically phased it out against better teams after a possession or two is a good sign, but I hate to give up even one or two easy baskets to the other team once we start Big East play. If the team is going to make strides on defense, it'll have to be improving our half court defense, not with the press.

Need to come out fired up or this one could be a nervous ride the whole way. Hopefully these guys have had enough tastes of losing/almost losing to teams they should beat handily. We'll find out Thursday.....I'm actually feeling positively about this one, which is a refreshing change. I really hope it lasts!!

Even though the press hasn't been great, is it possible III is throwing on the press simply to get up the defensive energy level at the beginning of games, i.e., increase the intensity level? IMO, it takes the Hoyas out of a lethargic defensive start in a half court defense. Thoughts?

Sometimes just the fact of giving the opponent less time to run half court sets is enough to make it worth it. Other times it gets our guys engaged and picks up the energy. And sometimes it is psychological... seeing a little fear in your opponents eyes can be a huge factor and can set the tone for a good long stretch of game time. Use the press selectively but don't go away from it.

IMO, it takes the Hoyas out of a lethargic defensive start in a half court defense. Thoughts? I wouldn't have a problem with it if it effectively got our energy up and increased intensity; without ill effects. The problem is that even teams like Elon basically effortlessly broke the press and got easy baskets (even Coppin State got easy baskets off the press), then it's simply not worth it without producing enough impact otherwise. Again, I do not necessarily have a problem using it at the start of games, but if it yields even one easy basket for the other team without any benefit, then I think we really need to think about it. Even last year when we were a poor team we were involved in many close games. I don't want to lose a game by a point because we give up an easy basket at 18:00 in the first half because our press gets destroyed.
