For anyone in or around downtown Boston today, McFadden's on State Street has MASN. It is the only bar I have been able to find in Boston that gets it. I will be there for the American game and would be happy to enjoy a beverage or two with other Hoya fans during the game.

No bar I could find in Boston last year has MASN- seems the DirecTV available to sports bars is not the same one you can get at home. There were a few gamewatches last year organized by the Boston Alumni Club, but they were somewhat sparsely attended and poorly publicized. I have thought about trying to get something more consistent organized, but as a season ticket holder who ends up traveling to a good number of games, I am not the ideal candidate to be there week-in and week-out. E.g. it would be great to get something going for Memphis, but I will be out of town that weekend. If someone else wants to take up the challenge, I would be happy to support it whenever possible. McFadden's on State Street in downtown Boston has MASN. I went there Monday night and they were very helpful (and even apologetic they couldn't offer me the High Def MASN). I will most likely be there for any weekday MASN games. EDIT: Actually, It looks like there are no more MASN weekday games! I would be happy to meet up with other Hoya fans in the downtown/financial district area for weeknight games this winter. McFadden's is a good place.

Hopefully Austin isn't too hurt...looked like he rolled his ankle? I'll give him a pass on this game If you are referring to his drive late in the good where he got fouled and went to the line, I think it was actually a calf cramp, rather than a rolled ankle. They were showing it on MASN.

thanks for the tips, i'll be on the lookout during session 3 for friday tickets ... random question -- does anyone know if you can bring a small duffel bag + backpack into the Garden? otherwise i guess i'll have to look for a locker in Penn Station thanks... There is a place in PEnn Station to check luggage. I am pretty sure that place is affiliated with Amtrak and you now have to have a valid/open Amtrak ticket to use it.

I could see USF knocking off an undermotivated ND team this weekend. Harngotty (sp) will struggle with Gransberry, ND plays NO defense (they belong in the ACC) and USF has been a tough out at home. dTRAIN Nothing to play for? Undermotivated? News flash to Boz and dTrain: there is another small tournament that takes place after the BET. Losses to crappy teams in the last week of the regular season are real bad. I don't think any team worried about NCAA seeding or a spot in the field is going to have an issue with motivation the next week and a half.

So here we are on the cusp of the post-season, with the Hoyas and Cards getting set to play for the BE regular season title. This is the way it was predicted to go. How 'bout that. Now I won't get into revising history and pretend it's been all smiles, milkshakes and flowers, but the Hoyas managed to get to where they were supposed to get. Despite all the hand-wringing and pessimism around here (and I am not saying that it was unwarranted), 24-4 and 14-3 in the conference is a damn good season (so far). Let's hope the Hoyas pull it all together for the stretch run. It's a great time to be a Hoya fan. Every year a bunch of us from the Class of '92 pick a game to all come down to together. When we were deciding which game this year, it was early in the season when Lville was not playing well and this matchup did not look as appealing as it was thought to be before the season started. But scheduling issues required us to do 3/8. Thank god for that. This is going to be fun.

Yes - Thanks. Great stuff (both the numbers and the time it took you to put it together).

Try the numbers without the box chart, which isn't showing up well on either of my browsers. I am not seeing anything in terms of the stats, and you teed it up so nicely, I need to see them! Can you repost them somehow? EDIT: See it now - thanks.

I think Austin's timing was off, once the ball took that 2nd bounce Boy, I don't know. I watched it about a dozen times in slo-mo this a.m., and it seemed to me if that shot bounces off, we win in regulation. Freeman was hovering with two hands near the rim in perfect position on my TV. I also watched the James foul at the end of regulation a dozen or so times and it seemed pretty clear to me that it was a foul. I also watched the Hibbert alleged goal tend. If someone can confirm for me that the rule is if you touch the ball after it hits the backboard it is a goal tend, then I think we got away with one there.

I know alums in non-DC cities that have season tickets and make it to like 1 or 2 games a year. Does anyone get the point of that? Perhaps you will better understand it after you have been passionately following the Hoyas (and travelling all over the country to see them play in person) for a couple dozen more years like many of the alums you refer to.

There are two glaring deficiencies that need to be changed if the Hoyas are to advance deep in the post season. One is advancing the ball up the court after a made basket by the opposing team. When the ball is put in play by the Hoyas I've noticed that they are very tentative in passing the ball, often close to getting trapped along the sidelines or in the back court. Sometimes they pass the ball from side to side more than they should. The best way to beat trapping or aggressive defense in the back court is to pass the ball over the top of the defense and immediately attack the goal. Usually, if there's trapping in the back court, somebody is left uncovered in the front court. The Hoya players should be instructed to go to their basket. This will allow for easy baskets and dunks, thereby burning the defense. This will "make them pay" for the back court pressure. The tentative back court passing only raises the possibility of turnovers. On defense, the the Hoyas need to stop bringing Hibbert from under the basket to help with the out front defensive pressure. This leaves the Hoya defense open for the opposing teams to immediately swing the ball inside for easy baskets. I especially noticed this in the Louisville game. It greatly decreases the Hoya interior defense and cuts down on Hibbert's rebounding. By positioning him and keeping him under the basket, this will add at least 4 to 6 rebounds to his totals and maybe 2 to 3 blocks. I don't know if I would tinker with anything on the defensive end at this point, but with respect to your second point, the other big concern is the increased likelihood that Roy will pick up some silly fouls out beyond the top of the key.

Not sure if this has already been posted, but the game appears to be on Ch 5 (ABC) in Boston today at noon - at least according to my Comcast guide.

OK, I'm hoping a smarter person than me can answer this one. I don't know that I ever remember a post on this Board that every single other registrant on the Board was qualified to respond to.

From what's left to choose from... I'd have to go with the 2001 (i believe that was the year) BET matchup. Georgetown was the #8 seed and was facing #1 Syracuse. A 1 had never beat and 8 and Braswell and Scruggs teamed up to stun the Gargen crowd. The #1 seeded orangemen were sent home on a thursday. That one is at the top of my list as well. Another was the BET Final in '89. We dismantled them (the final score did not do it justice). Worst Syracuse loss would have to be the Sam Jefferson half court foul in the Carrier Dome.

The last game I saw in McDonough on a large screen with a couple thousand Hoya fans was the '85 championship. Never again. The last (and only) game I saw in McDonough on a large screen was Princeton '89. Also not fun.

Pete Carrill gets a huge SHOUT OUT from me--he seemed more nervous watching III/Hoyas today then I was and loved it. He's around team a lot and just loved his presence at game and how into it he appeared to be--it reminded me of the time where he scared the living you know what out of me in '89 1st Round. I'll annoint Pete Carrill as GU "Yoda" and glad to have someone with such high character affiliated with program in addition to the others who share same traits--as people and basketball men. Agree 100%. I loved that CBS showed him in the crowd with the great grey Georgetown hat.

DooKIE Vitale, and Digger just gave the edge to OSU. Said their guards are better than ours. Well we have heard that before huh? And ROy WIlliams seems to like JT.jr whats the problem. This is slightly misleading. Digger and Vitale were completely positive / glowing about GU, tonight's game, the program, the future etc. While Vitale said he was picking OSU, he said repeatedly he thinks they have the edge by the "slightest, slightest, slightest" of margins. What is wrong with that? Friday night's ESPN coverage of the Vandy game was embarassing, but tonight has been very fair and, as you would expect, very positive.

Both come in as juniors. Both play with tremendous hustle and determination. Not always big scorers but find ways to make an impact on the game. Has any player in the Big East improved more over the past 2.5 months than PE Jr.? It is simply astounding the importance of his role on this team when compared to his minutes/role early in the year.

There were so many great highlights from the weekend and Saturday night especially. For me - one stood out - the JT III / J. Green hug when Green came out of the game. I have a number of Hoya memorabilia / pictures etc. framed in my basement. My favorite one is the front page of The Hoya in the first edition following our '89 BET win. The caption at the top of the page reads "The Beast is Back" and the picture taking up the entire page is Charles Smith being engulfed in a bear hug by JT Jr. on the sidelines in the waning moments of our convincing, never in doubt, win over Syracuse. 18 years is a long time, but maybe it was worth the wait. Hoya Saxa. That was an all-time great photo. The Voice also had it on their full front page - whatever the size of that was (something like 15 x 12 inches?) it was sizeable and I had it on my wall that whole year. Smitty looked like a stick figure in the middle of Pops. And in classic Smitty form - he just looked non-chalant and humble. No you are right - it was the Voice that ran that cover / picture.
