Hey guys.... We know it was a great party after the first BET Title in 18 years! And we know that Jeff's Mom and Dad were honored guests!
But that's all we know. Somebody give us the scoop on what went on.
Knowing many of you who were there, I can guarantee that neither Mom or Dad were able to pay for a single drink all night. And i am sure Jeff's Dad was delighted to show Jeff's mom what a great HOYA crowd Cafe 31 gets.
But there's gotta be more!
Jahidi, Mega, Giga, Krukster, DTrain, FHills, looking for more -- give us the flavor of the event!

I know a lot of fans went to the Affina to celebrate (shout to VSkyP) , but I headed straight to CAFE31 after calling Mr. Green and telling him I'd meet him there and they showed up minutes after .... Chants OF: "HOYA ... SAXA , WE ARE GEORGETOWN , JEFF GREEN'S MOM , JEFF GREEN'S DAD , 6 MORE GAMES " FLOODED THE PLACE... It was great .. and as they showed the replays on ESPN on the wide screen , Hoya fans erupted (Mr. Green kept saying that Roy abused GRAY .. lol) ... great turn-out and everyone came to show Mrs. Green love as she proudly sat near the back with a huge smile on her face ... Mr. Green just kept saying "Man , I just can't believe this ... I'm lost for words!" ... of course the Greens and family members didn't have to come out their pockets for anything as I made sure they had all they needed the entire night on my behalf... the owner wouldn't let me buy a bottle - but It was ok ... at one point Jeff's mom ask to have Jahidi's Hoya Head Gear .. classic moment as he replied "OK , after next year!" and Jeff's mom smiled and said OK! ...(Jeff's mom was holding up a big sign - but I forgot what it said .. anyone remember?).... then Mr. Green called Jeff and I got the chance to chat and congratulate him ... He thanked me and assured me saying " Oh, We're not done yet ... Buy ya tickets to ATL!" gave me the chills ... I told him they earned every bit of this and to enjoy the night .. but tell the boys I said back to work Monday and Lets bring home the BIG ONE! .. he laughed and said OK ... after hours of conversation with the Green's(they talked about Jeff as a youngster and how much Jeff loved GU) and a great time .. I walked the Greens to catch a cab and continued partying in the Big Apple ... a night I will always remember ... boy was I saucy!

KRUKSTER!!!...
after downing beers at the affinia I got over to c31 and I don't think either of us remember the rest of the night as well as we should... MADNESS!!!
I hope Jeff's aunt Viv does my Big East Champs t-shirt justice...
it was amazing when the highlights came on sportscenter; everybody getting nuts, The Greens starting chants, just great
I think you bought the bar my friend - I know you kept it flowing for AT LEAST the Green family and myself -- Jeff Sr. looked pretty wrecked by the end of the night, and Felicia really amazed me with the amount of energy she still had at the back end of this ridiculous weekend... my goodness, she put everybody to shame

last time I saw mega and giga on Sat. was at the Affinia right after the party turned into a scene from "Breakin'" and the battle on the dancefloor broke out between the two kids -- hilarious

SirSaxa,
This event even surpassed the fun and frivolity that was the 2006 Big East Championship.
If my brain recovers over the next couple of days I will try to provide a more comprehensive overview.
I cannot even begin to express how much fun I had this weekend. The usual cast of characters will there in full force as well as a lot of new friends. There is no question that Cafe 31 is a Hoyas bar. I think we have scared away every other fan!
I also several incriminating photos that I can post when I get home tonight. Several future political careers will be in jeopardy!

What a weekend. Any night where I can say I watched the Hoyas DOMINATE Pitt in the BET finals, see JTIII lead a WE ARE . . . GEORGETOWN! Cheer while cutting down the nets, dance with Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje's (sp?) mom, breakdance (poorly) with AKD's brother, high five LIChoya (and learn that he speaks much more clearly thank he types), Hug Jeff Green's mom, drink beers for 15 straight hours and just generally make a celebratory fool of my self amongst friends, old and new -- well, I'd call that a pretty good night!
On a more "Public Service Announcement" note - - If you are ordering food at a neighborhood pizza place on the Upper East side at 3:00 A.M., dressed in a hawaiian hoyas shirt and having done all of the above, if a cop comes in, don't crack wise with him. Lesson learned. That ALMOST made for a very bad end to a otherwise awesome night!
GO HOYAS GO JEFF GREEN GO LIC GO AKD'S BROTHER GO REUBEN'S MOM GO OLD FRIENDS AND NEW BOO NYPD!!
Jahidi -- I can't wait to see the pics!

Hey guys....thanks for the CAFE 31 recap!!! It's the next best thing to being there. I can feel the spirit from your posts -- and from the pics on the other thread. What an awesome awesome weekend! Makes up for the big disappointment last year.
And hey, there's still a LONG way to go!!!!
Jahidi, how great is it that Jeff's dad has become a Cafe 31 regular! Even bringing Jeff's mom! Did he bring his old boyhood pal from last year too?
Great Job Everyone!!!

Jahidi, we absolutely scared away 2 Pitt fans Saturday night. They were standing next to me at the bar and realized that EVERYONE else was a Hoya fan and left, for fear of getting in a fight and being out manned.
After the game, I went right to Affinia as well. Some of us (FHills, Johnny Jones) went out on the deck overlooking 7th Ave in the rain until security pulled us back in.
Had to leave the Affinia (and the free booze) because I knew the real fans were at Cafe 31. Loved seeing Jeff's family and all the regulars.
Let's hope this run continues!

I spent my time between the Affinia and Stout. What was the deal with the Affinia? I mean, I was there drinking all the free alcohol, but should I have been?

I just looked up bars around the Georgia Dome. Unfortunately, there were no names of places that sounded nearly as interesting as "Cafe 31". Although I did learn that "Magic City" is only a few blocks down the street. Hmmmm...

It was raining Saturday night on our way out of MSG - I just looked up in the sky, stretched my hands out wide, mimicking Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption - THAT'S what it felt like to me for the Hoyas to finally win the BET again. Being shut out of a championship since '89, it felt like I was actually free again....
As dTRAIN said, we went to the Affinia for a little bit before heading back to Cafe 31 after The Saturday Night Slaughter.......had NO desire to leave, but finally trekked home to Long Island a bit before two. We just couldn't stop hugging, chanting, slapping hands, and just acting like idiots the entire night. The place was crawling w/Hoyas both before and after the game. Hopefully the collective enthusiasm of thousands could be heard by those near and far who were unable to attend the tournament this year when watching the game on TV. My voice is still about 65% capacity at best.
When I arrived at GU in the Fall of 1988, I just assumed we'd be in the BET finals almost all the time, and of course would win many. Started out well, beating Cuse in my freshman year, but believe we lost to Providence my sophomore year before getting to the finals. Lost to the Hall in the finals my junior year, and in a heartbreaker to Syracuse my senior year (with 'Zo still getting Most Outstanding Player of the BET as a runner-up). Little did I know how infrequent our visits would be to the final after my graduation. Knowing how long it took to get back to the top and cut down that net, I soaked the whole thing in so the memories would last.
It was very special. Disappointed I wasn't smart enough to bring a camera. I'll remember when we make our next championship run - here's to hoping that involves trips to six games in three cities rather than three games in one.

In 2007, the Georgetown Hoyas and their fans escaped from prison. All they found of them after a night of celebration was a muddy set of prison clothes, a bar of soap, and an old basketball, deflated and empty. I used to think it would take six-hundred years to rebuild the program. Young John did it in less than three. Oh, JTIII loved Basketball, I guess it appealed to his meticulous nature. A back cut here, a drop step there there. Basketball is the study of shooting and passing and defending. That's all it takes really, seeing the opponent and stopping him. That, and a big god-damned center. Like I said, in last place a man will do anything to keep his mind occupied. It turns out John's favourite hobby was working his players in the exercise yard, a day at a time. I guess after Esherick was fired, he decided that Georgetown had been losing just about long enough. John did like he was told, got those players ready to win. The old guard of Calhoun and Boeheim simply didn't notice, neither did I... I mean, seriously, how often do you really look at a team you've beaten for ten straight years? The Hoyas and their fans crawled to freedom through five and a half years of Edited smelling foulness I can't even imagine, or maybe I just don't want too. Five and a half years... that's longer than college, just shy of forever.

SF!!
Outstanding! Calling that a candidate for Post of the Year doesn't begin to come close to what you accomplished. Very creative. Just a great job picking up on an apt visual reference from FHills -- hey, good job by you too FHillNY! Capturing the flavor of the night. That's what it's all about and we appreciate it.
WOW -- this HOYA team is providing all KINDS of inspiration!
