Best of luck at Xavier and with your coaching, Edge. Most of all, take full advantage of the college experience!

Congratulations are indeed in order.
As far transferring to Georgetown, that is a real possibility. But should you decide not to go through with that in the future, know that Xavier is a great place and you will have a bright future there. Blue and Gray is the way to go!!!

Glad to hear things are working out, Edge.
Like Filo stated, just enjoy the college experience. Working in the real world SUX!!!
Study hard and stay on the Dean's List. There will be plenty of time for partying and the chicks, just get your work done first.
There's tons of advice that you'll be given, some stuff you'll have to learn on your own, but I'll give you this one for free. Find one of the baddest chicks on the yard, and make her your friend. Don't try anything with her, because you need to keep her around. She is 'bait'. Other girls will see you with her and wonder, "What the hell is up with this guy?" Yes...you will be 'using' her in a sense, but this will definitely be a symbiotic relationship. She will be using you for the emotional stuff she doesn't get from the jerks that she dates. Another thing, no matter what, treat every woman with respect...even the not-so-cute ones. Girls pay attention to how you treat other women, and if they see that you treat women well no matter what they look like, you'll score some major Brownie points. Just don't let any crazy girls latch onto you...That would be bad.
Sincerely happy for you, man, and please keep us posted on things.

Enjoy college, man! Work, Gradschool, and Professional School can't hold a candle to it. As far as transfering students, Georgetown gets them from all over - I was a transfer orientaiton advisor - we had students from Villanova, Xavier, and a couple from community colleges as well.

Congrats, Edge, both on going to Xavier and becoming a manager. That's fantastic! And while you are now a Xavier fan, you don't need to become part of the Hoya family, you always will be if you want.
I already root for X because of the small school/Catholic school angle. One more reason.

Congratulations and good luck. You are always welcome to be a Hoya fan no matter what. I don't know the current situation, but historically it has been easier to get into your favorite school as a transfer than as a HS Sr. If you do well at the X, your chances would be good. In the meantime, dive right into your new life at Xavier. College is a fantastic opportunity. You sound like the kind of guy who will make the most of it. Finally, Aggy posted: Another thing, no matter what, treat every woman with respect...even the not-so-cute ones. I'd modify that and say especially the not-so-cute ones. And enjoy college....wow, what a great age, everything in front of you, great school, positive attitude... go get 'em!

Best of luck. My advice is to give it a real shot at Xavier- great school- and only transfer if that is what would make you happy.
I have two degrees from UNC but I have been a Hoya fan all of my like and it didn't change when I went off to college. I had to watch the recent NCAA game apart from my wife, but that is not big deal. So you can still root for the Hoyas if you go to school somewhere else. In fact it gives you a great opportunity to represent Gtown hoops in area where it is not well represented (i.e. ACC country or the Midwest).

Congrats Edge!
And I'll echo what everyone's said--enjoy college. You only get four years of it and it's going to be one of the best times of your life. THe fact you're going to be a manager is an awesome opportunity, especially if you want to be a coach someday. The Xavier coach is a pretty solid coach--soak it all in!
And like everyone else has said, the Hoya family is open to all--you'll always be a part!

EDGE - good luck at X , have a great college life. A piece of advice - no matter how great a team manager you may be, PLEASE resist the temptation to turn pro before your 4 years are up. I know the money will be a huge lure, and you will have agents smoozing you and promising you the moon and the stars - but your commitment to your school, and the joy of college life that you can never get back, should be the deciding factors. Hopefully one of the GU managers will transfer out and a spot will open up for you, just be patient.

Edge - Georgetown was also my dream school and like you I wasn't accepted out of high school. (I think my grades in high school were a little erratic, not unlike my study habits).
I figured that I would apply myself 100% at my new school, get the best grades I could, and try to tranfer to Georgetown. I didn't get a grade below a B+, while also being elected to student government and playing club sports.
When I applied as a transfer I was accepted and enrolled at Georgetown as a Sophomore. I had a great experience and loved every minute of my Georgetown education.
I knew that if I didn't at least try I would always wonder - could I have gotten in?

Great news! Good luck! Now go away, outsider! ;D Just kidding. I always said that the hardest part about Georgetown was getting in, and I still think that's true. But if you really still want to come here, you should be able to transfer. Hell, Georgetown accepts transfers from Mt. Mattress, so coming from a great Jesuit school like Xavier, you should have no problem. Just don't go changing your name to hifimusketeer and posting a lot of nonsense about Sean Miller's latest recruiting efforts. Hey, come to think of it.....Sean Miller. God, I loathed him about as much as Billy Donovan. Yeah, I think I hate Xavier too.

Hey Edge...did you play/beat the ladies at Mt. Lebanon, my old high school? I hooped for the men's varsity for four years against Upper Saint Clair, Peter's Township, and so forth.
Anyhow, good luck at Xavier!

Being a manager is one of the hardest things to do in collegiate sports. I can tell you from being a manager myself that your freshman year will be hard. Balancing college life with the demands of running a basketball team are difficult. You won't sleep much, but you'll learn to have time management skills like no other. Hopefully your players will respect you and treat you with class...sometimes that isn't always the case. Work hard and you'll be rewarded - there is no other way short of being a player to have that kind of access to the coaches. You'll have more shorts & t-shirts than you'll know what to do with...give some to your family, some to your friends...enjoy the spoils Free laundry, free shoes, priority registration before even the handicapped people on campus; the perks of the job are not limited to your court time. Get the coaches to know your name, hustle on everything, soak up as much as you can - whether its video equipment, scoreboard equipment, how the laundry machines work, who has keys to what, the names of the security guards...etc, and you'll do just fine. As a manager, you'll travel with the teams every so often - moreso as you become an upperclassman. You have some pretty fun trips ahead - try and avoid the St. Bonaventure trip if you can. What a dump. Feel free to message me if you have any specific questions or want advice of any kind - I had a manager friend under the Thad Matta regime at Xavier and have been there a few times for games...you stand to have an awesome college experience Best of luck!

My admissions newsletter had this factoid, and I'm pretty sure I'm remembering it right:
Georgetown only admitted 59% of 1600 SAT scores this year. It might've been 69% but it was not any higher than that. I suppose there are a few slackers every year with low grades and 1600 SATs but not many. Getting into Georgetown has gotten so competitive I tend to think of it as a lottery.

Edge - feel free to PM me if I can be of any assistance. I really feel that persistence and determination can pay off. Depending on what school you want to go to, try to line up classes at Xavier that would be similar to Georgetown's classes. (I don't know if this is the same for all schools - I was SFS which has set classes as a Freshman - I managed to take most of the same classes at my previous school. This also sends a message to Georgetown that you are very serious and determined.
Another small suggestion - send the dean of admissions a letter . Tell him (or her?) that while you are disappointed you didn't get in, you will do your very best at Xavier and apply to transfer next year. This letter will certainly be kept on file and then when you do apply to transfer it will be proof or your persistence and determination.
Another thought is to give a call to the admissions office (or better still arrange a visit in person) to speak with someone and get their advice on what you should do to have the best chance possible for admission. This is a great opportunity to learn more about what you could do to improve your chances and also leave a great impression. I'd do it soon when the admissions office is not busy.
Just some thoughts - as I said, feel free to PM!
