If you check the link for Chico: www.hoyabasketball.com/rosters/alltime-c.htm#irvinchurchYou will see that right below him is Churchwell. I know he was a four year starter and #14 on the scoring list, but I think the guy listed just after him should surpass him on the all time Hoya list by the time he graduates..

I don't remember Chico Church. When did he play? Chico Church was supposed to be one of the many blue chip outside shooters recruied to help Zo when he was triple teamed. Check the stats. I really do not remember him scoring that much as a freshman, my junior year. www.hoyabasketball.com/rosters/alltime-c.htm#irvinchurchI just realized that those FGA and FTA attempt numbers to not add up correctly. By the way, great performance today. Pure domination. We let them get the easy shots inside at the end, avoiding fouls. Also some missed FT and silly TOs to let them get close. I don't recall a Hoya team in the last 20 years, as a whole, being better on the break than this one. (maybe AI and Page.) How nice to see some layups off the inbound since we have allowed so many in the past.

Michael Vinson "Tate was the player of the year out of Maryland. He was supposed to contribute, but did not. Also in his class was David "the Dish Edwards" who could play, but did not hold up his academics. I think Antoine Stoudemire was in that class and could shoot the ball. He got sick, then home sick, then transferred closer to home. I believe Mike Sabol was also in that class. Charles Harrison came the following year with the previously mentioned Robert Churchwell. Irvin "Chico" Church the following year and he and Harrison were both supposed to be blue chip outside shooters. Suffice to say, none of these guys brought what was expected, and Alonzo did not have the team around him to win the tough games.
Regarding the article in question, I agree that it is a little early in the season for these predictions. Maybe I am wrong, but I do not think Cornell will show up as a quality win on any team's resume come selection time. I think the article in general is not well written. The Ewing Theory is a creation of the Sport's Guy. It is not the Ewing Effect. Using Nichols as an example of a talent that has not performed is a bad example, he didn't have the talent for the BE. A slightly better example would be Anthony Perry who was a more highly touted recruit who had a less than stellar career. Except for last season, you can't knock the Hoyas for not performing when we did not in fact have the talent.

Brandon was a better player than the triple jumper, hands down. Zo would have done a bit better battling the triple teams with Brandon on his wing.

From memory. He was injured and my genious Knicks used the Alan Houston buy out rule for Williams contract (I think about 6million). This rule enabled a team to buy out a single player's contract and this would not count against the cap or luxury tax. For the Knicks, this was significant, because they did not use this exception for the player who the rule was named for (Houston at about $20mil). You know the rest, Houston never played again and his salary did count against the cap and lux tax.

I watched a little of the Celtics game last night. Sweetney was hustling back on D, and it looked like he grabbed his hamstring. If he injured himself in his first game, that is not good for his career. He had a DNP tonight. It is a great that he has not given up, but he looked very fat. It is a huge waste of his talent that he got so out of shape.

I was at the game, a few rows back. I stumbled across the replay the other night and caught the last 7 minutes of the first half and tivo'd the second half. That team was stacked with talent and did go to the final 8 and lost to UMass. UMass cheated and has forfeited the game, officially. I recall AI at some point during the year yelling at O something to the effect that "I'll walk the ball up."

I am not sure that a guy who cannot dribble or shoot and is not a very good rebounder would help any major conference team. Initially, Jay Bilas said positive things about Macklin and what a great kid he is. By the end of his Gtown career I think Bilas realized that Macklin may be a great athlete, but lacks true basketball skill. I'm sure we will see some higlight reel dunks but not much more. Best of luck to him.

Big Dog was unstoppable at Purdue. He flat out dominated. If we had Glenn Robinson on our team this season we would have a good shot to make the Final Four. The guy averaged 30.3 ppg and more importantly 10.1 rpg in the then very strong Big Ten. I believe the last straw contract was that of Donyell Marshall from UConn. Regarding the comparison, there really is none.

Winning out the regular season and two wins in the BE tourney puts us into consideration.

I was a chem major, so let us discuss team chemistry. Check the article: www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/02/13/AR2009021303506.htmlSomething happened to our team after the Duke game and infighting might be the explanation. We have played better the last few games, with some "good" losses. However, with the terrible losses we had, our record is, well terrible. There is too much individual player bashing. The bigger problem is how come our team is not coming together. This problem seems to be the cause of the poor play, not the result of it. With our tempo, there are a limited number of shots per games, so players will not have big scoring numbers. See UNC or Memphis for big stats. Fans realize that Green was a lottery pick without a high scoring average and that the team got to the final four because of team play. When you have top recruits they are probably thinking NBA so they want a good resume, a large part of which is actually team success. Our players will be shooting themselves in the foot if the team has a terrible record and their stats are not good. I am more concerned about the potential collapse of the bright future of the program. There could be transfers and early entries that put us squarely at the bottom of the league next year. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/02/13/AR2009021303506.htmlprior ongoing discussion on same topic: hoyatalk2.proboards48.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=18861

I was there, it was incredible. Of course Duke went on to win it all and our program, well, we went down hill. I am going to look for the box score, someone please post it if they have it. Kenny A was there for G Tech.
