I was there at McDonough when O hit his first turn around. He was not Zo, but was a great player. Not the best fit for AI. The reason O lasted so long in the NBA was that he was a great locker room guy and team mate. He played in the league for 12-13 years, which will carry plenty of clout with any young player. Great addition to the staff in any capacity.

In the 1991 game against UNLV Zo was whistled for some terrible fouls. When he was in the game it was close, unfortunately he had to spend too much time on the bench. Robert Churchwell ran the court like a triple jumper, which incidently, he was. That was the report on him. Joey Brown was a great all time hoya, just not a great player. www.hoyabasketball.com/players/alltime-b.htmIf Zo had a shooter we would have done something in the post season. The mediocre "blue chip" shooters brought in around him didn't cut it. Stoudemire was probably the best pure shooter, but home sickness, and mono I think, got him back to the west coast. Dave Edwards didn't go to class. A friend was in Philosophy with him, Lonnie didn't go to class often. I was in art, yes art, with him 2nd semester senior year and he missed a lot.

How many team fouls did we have at the end of the second half. I think we had 4 with 6 or 7 minutes to go. I do not think we had 6 team fouls. The game and studio announcers did not mention the number when discussing whether to foul at the end of the game. We did employ the foul strategy for the first time I can ever remember a few games ago with success. If we did not have 6 team fouls then we could have fouled in the backcourt to make them re-inbound and burn some clock. A great win for the team.

The play where Chris picked up his second foul was an obvious back court violation against Pitt. The FT shooting, like just about every other aspect of our game is aweful. If we made our normal %, we would be only down about 10 and have a chance. We need a 3 point shooting barrage to get us back in it.

Someone posted in one of the threads about how this team does not step out of bounds to turn the ball over like in past years. Tonight we stepped out of bounds and made some bad passes. Terrible shot selection by everyone. I know the open looks from 3 were not falling, so no need to force contested 3s. Clark was in John Starks mode hoping the next one would go in. What was working was getting the ball inside, when we were patient and moved. Regarding Joey Brown, he had a 6'10 center that he could dump the ball into. Had that center had a shooter to pass it back to, it would have been nice. Chico Church was supposed to be that guy, he was not.

Even CW had a look of "I can't believe these guys are still pressing, this game is over" as he was knocked to the floor.

Great win, great all around play. I agree that 65.2% FT shooting is poor for us. The pressing by Memphis at the end was classless. I would like to see Hollis go up a little stronger. By the way, their coach looks like this kid from Waiting: www.imdb.com/name/nm0197855/

Memphis is very tough. We missed a few lay-ups that we should have made that would have given us a bigger cushion. Henry is playing with confidence and making great passes. We don't have to play a perfect 2nd half, but almost. I think they will cont to make the same mistakes with TOs, but if they start finishing on their offensive glass we may be in trouble.

What is with Monroe's Ft shooting. He has improved to 50%, but he should be at least 70%. Does he have the yips which Gotlieb mentioned regarding FT shooting during the Mizz game.

The more I see of Hollis the more impressed I am. He can shoot it, drive, play D, and rebound. He will only get better over the next 2 1/2 years and may end up as a first team BE player. I think he should be more involved in the offense as you don't seem him involved in many back door plays. Probably should end up being a petter player than Brandon Bowman. BB: www.hoyabasketball.com/features/top100/b_bowman.htmI forgot about how huge he was when we beat Duke in 06.

From NBADraft.net under the losers section of the Combine Measurement Anaylsis: "Greg Monroe has good length but had a surprisingly high body fat at 11.2%."
I do not think this hurts his draft position. He definitely did not need to work out for teams. It would not have helped him crack the top five, and could push himself out of the top 10.

Compare: Luke Harangody 6-6 6-7.75 240 6-9.5 8-10 11.1 Greg Monroe 6-9.75 6-11 247 7-2.25 9-0.5 11.2 The last number is the body fat %. How is Greg 3.75 inches taller and only 7 pounds heavier than Harangody but has a higher body fat %. How come Luke gained 1.75 inches with shoes while most guys only gain an inch and a quarter. I think he has on a pair of those Tom Cruise heightening sneakers. Link: www.nbadraft.net/2010-nba-draft-combine-official-measurements

Dave Edwards, Mike Tate/Vinson, and Dwayne Bryant came into my freshman dorm room to study some subject with my roommate. I think Dave Edwards was there for a few minutes, then left. He re-appeared at A+M and in a Champions apparell commercial. Tate was Mr basketball from the state of Maryland, but was obviously over-hyped. I don't think it was his knees. He transferred to JMU and had little impact. His other classmates Sabol (american), Stoudemire (Oregon) also didn't last long.

20 years ago my friends and I could not believe that the Hoyas were only a 3 seed. We were freshman and went to the Leavy Center to watch the game. I remember my shock when Tillman's 3 missed at the buzzer and the 3 seeded Hoyas lost in the second round to #6 Xavier and their two future NBA player (Tyrone Hill and Arron Williams.) So many disappointing losses have happened since. Including that year there have been 12 NCAA tourney appearances with 5 second round and 2 first round exits. The loss to Ohio was especially tough because this team had achieved so much, but with the pressure on, we under achieved. So I'll do what I do almost every spring, have great expectations for next year. Go Hoyas.
By the way, if Zo had not been whistled for a couple of ridiculous touch fouls we would have taken out UNLV in '91.

In the past few years CBS has added at least 2 additional channels to televise more games. Not the case this year. Bad CBS. At least I was able to watch Curling almost 24/7 during the olympics on CNBC or MSNBC.

I rarely post, however, Hubert Davis is just terrible. He was asked about Georgetown, but then only wanted to talk about Marquette. His comments were ridiculous. That they would go to the sweet 16 or beyond and would only have trouble against a big team. I agree that they will be a tough team in the tourney, but almost every team is big compared with them. I have always given Hubert a pass, since I am a Knicks fan and also appreciate his work against the Dukies. But for him to not say anything about the Hoya's dominating performance is unforgiveable.

The concept of the commercial is good, but the execution is bad. This must have been made by the Bourne crew, with so many quick cuts and weird angles that it is difficult to see what is going on. I count more than 40 cuts, which is way too many for a 30sec spot. Dissapointing.
