Tremont Waters is nice. Hopefully a sophomore Akinjo can make us forget about him. Unfortunately, these LSU wins will probably end up vacated.

Carter should not play the 5. He seems more like a 4 unless he bulks up a lot.
It seems that Yurt7 and Wahab will get most of the minutes. At this point, it would make the most sense if Ighoefe and/or Wilson redshirts.

This is the biggest problem we have had all season. This looks like we are 5 for 15 in 2 point shots that are outside the paint. We take more 2's outside the paint that almost every team we play against. Need to cut down on these low percentage and low yield shots. Players should be coached to take the open shot as long as its under the basket or a 3. Any open long 2 should usually have a better option somewhere unless the shock clock is running down.

Please everyone stop comparing one of our guards to the other and saying one is better/worse/more athletic/etc. They are both skilled in different ways and have different things to improve upon. Lets root for the 2 of them to stay together and learn to improve and complement each other for 4 years.

Clemson lost on 2 free throws after a horrible last second foul call. That could help us.

Hopefully Strus has that out of his system, and I have no idea how St. John’s makes the tournament now. What a massive disappointment for them. They don’t really have any bad losses besides this one. And have several OOC decent wins. I still think they are in unless they lose to X and in first game of BET

This St Johns vs DePaul game is one of the worst officiated games I’ve ever seen. Touch fouls being called on literally every possession. I hope we never get these officials

Anyone going to be in Omaha for the game?
Where is the local pre-game watering hole?

Can't blame this on Trey. He only played 5 minutes.
All and all I think we played ok. Marquette is good even without Howard.
The only things I think we could have done differently were take a timeout during their huge run in the 2nd half and execute the end game play better. Also had some missed free throws including Mac in the end. Ewing time and again waits too long to take a time out during opponent runs. This is a young team and has shown that they decrease their effort when the other team goes on a run. We need a reset during those episodes with a timeout.

Overall today I didn't think there were any major "in-game" coaching blunders like vs Syracuse. Again, the only issue I had was leaving Mosely in at the end which resulted in an ill advised 1 on 4 drive and a bonehead turnover at a key moment.
As many have said, the major issue with this team is a lack of defensive ability and coordination.
In the first 8 minutes of the game I thought we were horrible offensively. We should have been up by 10. Once we got going, I thought offensively we weren't terrible except for a few ill advised shots (early contested 3s and basically any Mourning 3 should disappear).
I think the game is slowing down a bit for Mac and James offensively. They will continue to get better as the year goes on.
The major concern I have about this roster is the continued lack of development from one year to the next. How are Pickett, Blair, Mosely all worse than last year??? As players get older, they should be getting better and playing more and more minutes to become upperclassmen leaders. Too many of our players have shown promise in their first year and then fizzled out by their weaknesses getting exploited as opposed to improved upon.

Malinowski and Pickett are similar players. 6'6 vs 6'8, both 205 lbs. Both play the SG/SF position in our lineup. Though, in the first third of the season, Malinowski has just been more aggressive as far as cutting, finding loose balls, rebounds, driving, etc. Pickett looks like he's floating on offense and waiting for someone to pass it to him at the 3pt line.
Richmond game: Pickett 19 min, 1-2 from two, 1-2 from three, 1 reb, 1 assist, 3 pts Malinowski 20 min, 4-6 from two, 2-4 from three, 7 reb, 5 assist, 10 pts
I was hopeful for Jamorko this year after seeing how he improved at the end of last year and seeing his off season workout regimen. But Malinowski is just giving us more now from this position. I hope Jamorko turns it around.

We would have lost this game last year. Great job to get the W today despite tough floor conditions again.

Akinjo and Mac way too many turnovers getting too deep. Both missed fairly easy floaters as well. I like the aggressiveness though. Hopefully when the kinks get worked out things will start flowing better.

Here’s what I have at this point: G: Akinjo (25), McClung (20) G: Mosely (25), Blair (15) SF: Pickett (25), Johnson (20), Malinowski (5) PF: Leblanc (15), Walker (15) C: Govan (30), Mourning/Carter (5) I agree with this, except I think Blair starts over Mosely and Walker starts over Leblanc (at least early on). Pickett will play 30+ minutes. He is our 2nd best player. Blair I think will play 25+ minutes. He played 22 minutes per game last year and I think he will improve on both sides of the ball. Typically, not all of the newcomers pan out. Ie I think at least one of Akinjo, McClung, Leblanc will be more raw than we thought - though I hope not.

James took Brandon's lunch money, his hall pass and later on took his sneakers. The boy had to walk home barefooted! James Akinjo is a beast on the "D"! Unfortunately, if James guards with his hands like that in college, he is going to foul out fairly quickly.

We have lost so many close games this year, that you have to think that 1 guy who could create his own shot in crunch time would have turned a lot of those losses into wins.
The_way is correct - most of our games have come down to the last couple minutes and that's when you need confidence, playmakers, and defense.

Yall can get after glide all you want, but the mix tapes of this kid aren't bad. Looks like he went off in the 2nd half to lead his team to victory tonight. We need a PG with good handles. Some clips from tonight on the Wise twitter feed. He certainly looks better than a D2 player. twitter.com/WisePumaSports

We played probably the best half offensively I've seen all season.
Second half they tightened up defense and we were less creative and more tentative.
We lost this game in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half when we did not score.
Other issues didn't help: turnovers (ball was just taken out of our hands at least 4 times), offensive rebounds, Blair ineffective, Govan getting constantly toasted on defense by Xavier centers.

Even with a historically bad OOC we are still only 15-10 and 5-9 in conference. I don't know why you guys are still talking about this. If we had lost to one of those sub 250 RPI teams would ANYONE be saying now that we should have scheduled a more difficult OOC?
