I think Yurtseven is talented, he just needs to keep working and listening to advice regarding things he needs to improve upon.
When he goes to the same move over and over again, he gets shut down. The Len Elmore analysis of him is good - he needs to mix and match. Face up, back to the basket, post then repost.
Squeeze the orange and hold on to the ball.
Have a killer mentality that when you are within 5 feet of the basket you are dunking on people at all cost.
Don't take any plays off on defense or on the boards. Need constant focus for greatness.

Pickett helping off McDermott, why??? Because guys are clearly trained in practice to over help. No other explanation for this happening all season.

Poor officiating on both sides. Hate games where officials try to take over.

I hope this isn't his thought process, the team isn't talented enough to pull this off. Also makes me wonder if this is the philosophy on defense as well... As for the question seems to me he should be able to answer it without much thought considering the amount of game film he must watch to prepare the team for games right? Just got around to reading this article myself. It's a pretty damning quote, IMO. “It’s really hard to focus on that when you’re in the heat of the battle,” Ewing said. “There’s a lot of guys in the league that are very good defenders. We just played one of those teams last night. But when you’re in the struggle, I guess, or the battle, it’s hard to single out.” Begs the questions: are we using film study to identify where those strong defenders are and avoid getting ourselves in bad situations? Are we looking to try to exploit mismatches elsewhere? And conversely but related, are we trying to formulate a defensive gameplan to not only maximize what our guys can do defensively, but to try to slow down the other team's best player(s)? Our team often times looks prepared for what it wants to do. However, it doesn't look like it's prepared to understand what the other team wants to do. If we continue to focus merely on ourselves and not our opponents, that will be a huge red flag for me about the current program approach and whether or not this staff, as presently constructed, can succeed in the long term. Agree that this sounds like JT3 criticism. Spending too much time working on Princetown offense with the thought that if we run our stuff well we will always succeed. Without enough time spent on planning for your opponent.

Not sure where else to put this as it is more about Ewing's coaching then his approach but here seems the most appropriate...and I am sure I will get blasted for this and told to get some thick skin... During every game when they go inside the huddle and show Ewing talking to the players it always feels like their being read the riot act. Maybe as a TV viewer that is all I am shown because that is considered appealing to a TV audience but not once have I seen him praise the team. Look I am all for tough love. That was how I was coached and I appreciated it. However everything feels tough with no love. In comparison, I believe it was Jay Wright they showed in the huddle during our game against them and he said something to the effect..."Guys you did "this" and "this" well but you continue to do "this" and were going to get killed". I am obviously paraphrasing but I find that a much more effective approach then being torn down every time. Maybe that is not what it's like in person and I get the guy is intense and I know it's just natural (as a coach myself) to harp on the bad versus the good but I don't think there is anything wrong w/throwing these kids a bone sometimes when they deserve it. He is very complementary after a game, I certainly give him that but feels like in the heat of the battle that never happens. Yes I know they don't need to be coddled, yes I know they are grown men to some degree but a "good job" here and there never hurt anyone. Again maybe it's not like that in person. I have been trying to turn a blind eye to this for the last few years, but I agree and glad someone else posted it. I hear a lot of yelling and F bombs from coach to the player's faces. Need to match that with a few atta-boys. If I were a player, I would take more to the Jay Wright style of "teaching" as opposed to the more old school style of "hard coaching" and yelling. You can be a hard coach and expect a lot from your players without continually yelling at them and dropping F bombs.

This was a 50/50 game. We played well offensively. Mediocre defensively. And calls were mostly not going our way.
Wojo had a great play call to get Howard an open 3 in the corner on an inbounds late in the game.
Ewing should have called a time out on that last possession. The team clearly had no clue how much time was left in the game and were trying to get off a frantic shot with 10-15 seconds left for some reason. Take a time out. Regroup. Get the last shot.

Bey looked like Kawhi today. Calm cool and collected. Got it done inside and out. Tall strong guy with not the prettiest outside shot but couldn't miss.
The overhelping wasn't Ewings fault, he mentioned to stop over helping on one of the "inside the huddle" segments.

Yurtseven easily having his worst game this year.
He looks mentally checked out for some reason.

After watching these last 2 games, I fully expect to finish last in the league this year. Maybe Mac's injury mentally set us back, but there is no ball movement anymore. I expected the competitive edge from the winning streak to end at some point, but it seems that we have reverted back to how we played before the players departed.

Let me just say that I would take a senior Terrell Allen as my Georgetown point guard for 100 straight years if possible. Really a fantastic and smart offensive and defensive player. We should be looking for future PGs in his mold in high school or the transfer market.

Akinjo led the league in assists and was BE freshman of the year last year. I don't know how anyone (including his family) could have expected him to accomplish more than this. Did they think he was going to put up Trae Young numbers? His assists were down this season, but do you pull the plug after 7 games following a successful freshman season? I don't really understasnd it. Agreed. Not much more he could have asked for. Most minutes per game and most shots per game on the team this year. Of the 2 guards (Mac and James), James clearly had the longer leash with Coach Ewing. If he is unhappy with his playing situation, then it cant be from a lack of opportunity.

Major issues tonight were turnovers and poor defense. Unfortunately, this has been the hallmark of our teams for many years. Press defense was good. Transition and half court defense was terrible.

Even though those first 2 games have been closer than they should have, I see good signs in this team.
Yurtseven is fantastic and the low post / rebounding / high energy guy that Jesse wasn't.
Jamorko looks more confident this year. He had some drives today where it looked like his handle has improved since last season.
Akinjo and Mac will be fine. Only disappointment so far is that Mac's deficiencies seem similar to last year (defense and lack of passing vision on his drives).
Alexander will be good for us. It will be hard to keep him out of the lineup.
Allen is a great backup PG. We are lucky to have 2 vocal floor generals.
I have a very positive review of Patrick over his first 3 years so far. Even if we aren't getting 5 star recruits (yet) or contending for Final 4 spots every year, we are playing an exciting up and down style that is enjoyable to watch. If we keep playing this style, are reasonably successful, and get guys into the league, the high level recruits will come.

Every year around this time there is a thread saying that the make or break part of our season is how some of our minor options on offense play. While Jahvon and Jamorko playing well is important, what makes or breaks almost everyone's season is how their best players play. If Omer, Leblanc, and our 2 Soph guards all take steps forward, that will make the most impact.

Guards: Akinjo and Mcclung should be getting the bulk of the minutes with Mosely and Blair getting spot time. SF: whoever is playing better of Alexander, Gardner, and Pickett. It seems that Gardner and Alexander have the upper hand now based upon Kenner performances. PF: Leblanc should get a ton of time here and will probably have one of the above SFs sub him out C: Yurt7 getting the bulk of the minutes with Wahab as backup or Josh in a small lineup
There are a lot of guys jockeying for minutes on this team, which is a good problem to have.

I know we give McClung credit, but I still feel like he gets overlooked by the fanbase. There aren't a lot of freshman who looked as impressive as Mac did in games last year. If he ever turns into a 40% 3 pt shooter then he's a surefire pro. The kid has everything inside the paint, pull-up, step-back, floater, can finish with either hand at/around the rim. Literally, the only thing holding him back from being an elite guard at the college level is defense and shot selection. I think he's an All BE performer this year and could push 1st team his junior year. The thing holding Mac back is actually his court vision and willingness to drive and dish. He did make some nice dimes last year, but too often was he a black hole that drove into several defenders looking for a contested finish. I still want him to look for his, but if he is able to drive and find an open man 3-4 out of every 10 drives instead of 1 every 10 drives, I think that would be his biggest success.

Seems like he was really torn about where to go which is why he kept waiting. As much as I wanted him here, you cant really pass up UNC at this point in time.

I think in general these Final 4 games have been well officiated. Not a lot of fouls called. Our games this season seemed to be bogged down by so many foul calls. Probably because 1) officials were worse and more likely to call fouls, and 2) our team is defensively more undisciplined than these teams and fouls a lot away from the basket and on drives.

Zion pushed his leg at the end and probably altered the shot. Duke gets lucky again at the end.
